It's Raining... and the Passing of King Ko

Yes... the rain came again...

I was up early! I had to get Mom ready. After she took off, I went for a quick run as I had Bible study at 10am.

I shared about my father's condition and asked them to pray for Annie!

Later on in the afternoon, when I finished tutoring, I got a message from Annie. Our father passed. God revived him for those two days to make a firm decision and be baptized. He passed peacefully in his sleep!

I'm glad I had a free evening. It was good to rest! And I had time to plan for the summer trip!

Too Hot...

I was up early... after sleeping quite late. It is getting warm...

After getting Mom off, I did a load of laundry... I had to... the smell was getting too much with the heat! I have bought lots of smelly good stuff...

While the laundry was going, I went for a run. Again, I had to... the heat got so bad that I had to walk to breathe in the heat! I made it back.

I took a quick shower and went to pick up textbooks from a friend. She was going to chuck everything in the recycling.

We had plenty in the fridge, so no need to cook. A friend came by as we couldn't meet earlier as Mom couldn't go to the Center.

This evening, I had tap dancing class.

This Is Sunday's Entry!

The weather turned HOT overnight... We woke up to temperature in the high 20's... Alan said that it was hard to breathe out playing tennis.

We had church and the message was from John 6: 16-24.

Other than that, I didn't do much...

Give Thanks in Everything...

Alan went to school early as he will be one of the judges for the National Debate Contest. Everything is online.

I went for a run as the weather said that it was going to be warmer later on in the day... I was home by 10 as I wanted to catch the graduation ceremony of a kid I had tutored. Yes, it was "LIVE" via YouTube. I had a quick shower and got Mom up, too. I made oatmeal for her.

Abby went for a workout!

At 3:30 I had to drop Abby off for her worship team meeting and youth activity. I brought Mom and that's a big task! I went to RTMart afterwards and wow... what a workout, pushing the wheelchair and trying to shop. I won't do this again! Too exhausting.

Mom and I got back and she enjoyed her dinner. I talked to Isaiah. We are trying to arrange our summer travel.

Alan was home by 7pm.

Mom was in bed by 7:30!

Hanging Out with Alan and Abby

With Mom at the Center, Alan, Abby and I had planned a day out!

First, we went to Soochow University to drop off a wedding gift and pick up all the items I had left there from my Bible study.

Then we were off to RTMart. I had to exchange the shoes and we were hoping to have lunch at the food court. It was too early for the food court, and they didn't have the right size of shoes. So, I just got a refund and we headed to our favorite Cantonese restaurant.

Next door was a new Cronut shop. So we bought three of those for dessert.

While Alan and Abby were eating, I went to run a few errands. We walked over to donate blood! That's one of the items on our plan!

We got free notebooks, free lunch bags and free tissues.

Off we went in the rain to Computex! It was not as 'fun' as years before. Of course, due to Covid, this exhibition was cancelled for 2020 and 2021. But it used to be so fun with lots of gadgets for sale and free stuff. Nothing this time. Very few people. Eddie and Nic would have enjoyed it tremendously as they would have liked to talk to everyone. Lots of innovative items were on display.

I ran into one of my students. That was fun!

We finally left at 3pm and went to buy bubble milk tea. I again ran a few more errands. BUT, while walking in the rain, I did a somersault. I was wet and muddy!

As soon as I got home, I hopped into the shower and felt so much more revived. Alan and Abby took a nap, but I had to take care of Mom as she was back. While she ate dinner, I helped a student edit his graduation speech. Yes, this week has been filled with most of the international high schools having their graduation ceremony.

I didn't go for a run. My back was feeling a bit sore! But the weather was so fabulous. I hope I will be able to go for a short run tomorrow.

I forgot to mention that late last night, we bought the ticket for Isaiah to return from England on the same flight as I will be on! YIPPY! September 23rd. And I called the military service to inform them of the date. This way he will not miss the early entry assignment!

An interesting insight: Jesus was speaking to the disciples who found five loaves and two fish. But perhaps Jesus is inviting us to bring our burdens and anxious thoughts to Him. A Super Productive Day!

As soon as I got Mom off, it was go, go, go...

I had letters to mail, questions to ask about Isaiah's military service, shoes to look for (I gave Mom's shoes away. The ones that were too big. But now I need a pair that's a half size bigger. Darn it!), bananas to buy, cookies to drop off, things to buy at Costco... yes, it was a long list.

Before I left, I organized all the stuff in Mom's room. We have no storage space, so all the diapers and wipes get piled up. I didn't like the way these items made the room look. I also went through all the medical things we have -- bandages, cotton swaps, tapes, wraps, ointments... Wow... We don't need to buy anything for a while!

The rain was so nice... and I finally had time at 4:15 to go for an hour run. Alan was home and would pick up Mom. I had the dinner prepared. So, I got back the same time Mom did... Alan served Mom's dinner and I took a very quick shower. After dinner, I gave Mom a shower.

The evening was quite relaxing. Abby went to World Gym. Alan went to play basketball.

I cooked coconut cream chicken and spinach with rice! It turned out very nice!

Oh, the shoes didn't fit. They were too small! I need a half size bigger! So I'll return them tomorrow. I think they have a size 6.5. I got them from Nike. Super nice shoes! Yes, I splurged!

I am also looking at how to travel the cheapest for this summer. Train, bus, ferry... Lily, a dear friend in Edinburgh, offered for us to stay with her. Nancy and Serge said we can stay with them in Belgium. I will look at Freiburg and Heidelberg. I'd love to go up to the Scottish Highland... But I don't think we can make it. There are just too many places that I'd like to visit!

A Fast Day...

After getting my mom off, it was cleaning the room as I thought Amy, the helper, was going to come. But she cancelled, AGAIN! She's not very reliable!

I went for a run in the rain... YIPPY! I saw two turtles -- one smashed and one alive. I saw lots of earth worms. Yesterday I saw a snake. And of course, lots of birds...

I got back and took a quick shower before the Soochow Bible study started! We had another great discussion!

Then, I headed off to pick up these pee pads I ordered. I had to ride in the rain and rush back and make Mom's bed and Mom was back. I had her dinner ready!

Please pray for her foot. That blister is just not healing as fast.

Abby and I had a nice massage tonight... and then prayer time with a sister!

The New Med for the Foot WORKS!

It was a good idea to see the doctor yesterday afternoon. This morning, Mom was walking a lot better. I took her over to the Center and they will provide transportation this week! YIPPY! So I didn't have to rush to go pick her up. They are just preparing -- in case... and they did say that many of the elderly have not returned. In the return van, the usual 7 only had three!

A friend dropped by with cookies and scones. I had made lunch and it was splendid to have her here.

After she left, the rain had died down... but I had to go for a run. Tutoring started at 3:30 and Mom was back by 5:15. Alan was home with teaching online. Abby didn't have class. The rain picked up again at 5pm but I had Bible study at 7pm. I'm glad I went out at 1:45!

I am trying to arrange for Mom's care for this summer. It's not easy!

Great news: My father, King, accepted Jesus and was baptized. He was really not doing well, physically. But after receiving Jesus, he's 'spirit' returned. Annie said he was up and eating and watching TV. The swelling in his abdomen went down and he seemed to be doing much better. Annie is tired as she also doesn't have much help. James is there, but he is busy with the start of the job he has. Kurtis caught Covid and is feeling pretty sick! So, if you are reading this, please do pray for her. Give her a call and encourage her a bit!

Half Day at the Day Care...

Yes, Mom was at the Day Care only half day... as I made an appointment for the check up on her foot. We had to first get an antigen test. Mom was negative. So, she was allowed to go back to the Center. I went for a run... and didn't get much done before I was back to pick her up. The hospital wasn't as crowded. We saw the doctor almost immediately. She prescribed more antibiotics and another stronger ointment.

On the way home, I went and bought bananas and apples.

While Mom was having dinner, I had prayer time with a sister and then later on this evening, tap dancing was online. I signed off and went and laid down for about 30 minutes. I like tap dancing, but I'm not into online classes.

The Center notified me. No more van pick up or drop off. I have to provide the transportation because of the Covid spike. I have so many things to do... Now, I have to drive twice a day! At least they are still open. I need the time to prep for my June and July talks. I need to call and have another place lined up for when I take off for my trip to Europe! Of course, I also have my Bible studies and prayer time with different sisters, which are all online!

Horrible Traumatic Unimaginable...

Last night, Alan went to bed early... At around 10:35, my head wasn't feeling well. My eyes were feeling overly tired. I went to lay down.

At 10:50, I heard a very shrill scream and then a loud horrendous THUD!

Both Alan and I jumped out of bed.

And to our utter horrid, a body was lying on the ground below C Building!

Someone had jumped!

We stayed up with ambulance and police, arriving. The body was not moving. The paramedics tried to revive her. We later found out. A gal from #13 jumped. And we don't think she survived. By 12am, the body was removed. They roped off the area. The investigators were around until until 3am. By 4am, the rope was taken down. The piece of what seemed like a bathrobe was taken away.

It was very traumatic. Shocking!

We knew the gal... But we hadn't seen her for about a year. The story is that she had moved and then just recently moved back into the vacant apartment of her grandmother. Later today, we heard that she did not make it! Tragic!

1. What kind of believer are you ? Is God on the throne of your life?

2. We can only know God as He reveals to us His mysterious way. Only as God gives us His mind can we understand His truth.

3. Are we the "Sunday Flower Arrangement" Christian, only looking good on Sunday, dying and withering by Monday?

4. Jesus must govern our lives so that our priorities are ordered by God, not self. We are not looking at the phenomenon of the Holy Spirit to prove we have the Holy Spirit. Be careful!

5. Carnal Christians use their own strength to live their life as a Christian. They don't understand nor acknowledge their own weaknesses. They choose not to surrender to the Lordship of God.

6. Carnal Christians substitute temporal things in exchange for external things. They are like power boats, not sail boats. They use their own power instead of waiting upon the wind/Spirit of God.

Can't Believe It...

God is so good to me... Even with Mom at home, even with online Bible studies... Even with warmer weather, I ran six times this week... And hit 58.48km! YIPPY! I'm happy like a lark! Sure, it's not 70km. But I'm thrilled! Two of the runs were sauna-like. Two of the runs were cooler. Maybe next week, I'll be able to keep this up!

Mom had her meals and was more active. I cut her hair and did a spray non-permeant hair dye. The result was very nice.

Abby stayed with Mom this afternoon as Alan and I had our Marriage Builders! It was a tremendously fun time!

Car Won't Start... AGAIN!

I went down to use the car to take Mom to YangMing Hospital to check on her blister, which is not healing as fast as I had hoped. The car wouldn't start and we just changed the battery. What???

I called the guy and he sent two mechanics over. They jumped it and drove it to their service station. We are going to unplug the stereo and the monitor with the reverse camera. Let's see how fast another new battery will drain!

So, I called and 'cancelled' the appointment.

Mom had lunch and I went to mail a package. Alan and Abby went out for lunch and to run errands. They picked up things at Costco for our Marriage Builders group tomorrow.

Mom actually took a nap!

I was able to sit and read.

This evening after Mom went to bed, I went for a run!

Another Smooth Day...

I went and bought bananas and returned a book... Then Mom was up and eating... Again, since both Abby and Alan were home, I rushed for a quick run... it was sprinkling. When the sun came out, it felt like running in a sauna.

I had a quick shower and started tutoring at 2pm. That went on for two and a half hour. Mom sat and had two bananas and some chips.

Alan had basketball this evening and Abby went to practice with her classmates. When Mom went to bed, I went for a massage! NICE!

Confirmed!

Alan received the news... Online until the end of the semester! No graduation ceremony! It's a repeat of last year! Dejavu!

I got Mom up and ready. Then with Abby and Alan home, I went for a quick run! It was good to be quick as it was getting quite warm!

I had a speedy shower and Bible study started. We had five people again! Living A Life of Overcoming Hardships!

After the Study, I was in a mad rush to get Mom to the bathroom, tidy up, eat something and tutoring online at 3:30. That went to 5:30 and then I got busy with Mom again!

I was going to have to tutor this evening, but we decided to make it tomorrow afternoon at 1:40, online!

Free Food... And Other News...

This morning I had my Bible study via Zoom. It worked well... although I would have enjoyed seeing all the ladies.

Mom was up and had her shower and breakfast.

I went for a run. Alan was home as he is teaching via online!

When I got back, Mom had lunch and went back to rest! Very unusual... but helpful as I had to tutor! Online!

And after tutoring, I got two phone calls... Friends had food and things to drop off! How wonderful! Rice, curry, cucumber, string beans, squash... and clothes and other items to give away!

After tutoring, I sorted through everything!

Now, a dear friend tested positive. The helper, Amy, was at her house on Monday. Amy was to come tomorrow. But maybe we better not have Amy come. The Center texted and will be reopened by Monday. I don't want Mom to test positive and can't attend. Furthermore, one great Christian long term care center called. They have an available bed. But Mom must be fully mobile. Right now, Mom is not... OH NO! So, please pray! It's more expensive but it's a great place!

A Wonderful Day...

Yes, it was...

I went out running early... and it was cold and raining... my favorite weather!

After I got back, Mom was up and after her shower, she ate breakfast! showered. She then sat at the dining room table... I let her listen to ancient Chinese poems. She didn't seem to want to move around. Her blister is getting better.

Since Abby was home, I was able to rest on the sofa! Yippy!

Mom had a small lunch and then dinner... No news as to how many days the Day Care Center will be closed! But Alan received news... no graduation... and the rest of the semester might be all online! Bummer!

Tomorrow, my morning Bible study will be online. My Soochow Wednesday study will be online! My tutoring will also be online! I guess with Mom home and everything online... this works out better! Oh yes, tap dancing is also online, which wasn't that fun!

Not Again...

The weather today was absolutely splendid... but I don't run on Sundays...

I did receive terrible news: The Day Care Center is closing again! I can't believe it! This past month, Mom has gone to the Center just five days... the rest of the time, they've been closed. If they have one confirmed case, they close for 10 days... and within those 10 days, if another elderly reports as a confirmed case, they start counting the 10 days all over again! So... they might not be opened until the end of May!

Other than that bad news... it was a beautiful day of worship!

I got a swifter mop from one of the ladies in the buy nothing group. It is fantastic!

A Good Day...

Mom's blister is healing nicely... The Center didn't want her there because she wasn't walking steadily because of the blister and wanted to go to the bathroom every few minutes... but they don't have the manpower to be with her, one-on-one. So, for these past two days, she's been asked to stay home. I think the Center is beginning to find it difficult to care for her. What to do??? She won't just sit still. At home, I am right across from her... and my voice is being overused again!

I read... Alan and Abby went and got their international license. When they got home, I went for a short run. The weather was nice... cool, but no rain... I like the rain!

Mom had bananas and apple slices and bread and porridge. Yes, she was having a little diarrhea and that's another reason why the Center didn't want her there. I think it's the antibiotics that she's taking after the blister was popped.

I had time to watch my favorite TV show... I love how it's set in 1895. I love how the gentlemen offer the lady's their arms when they walks. I love that the detective rides around on a bicycle. I love the way they talk to each other... and the moral values of that time... I'm on Season 4 now!

Daily Lovely Insight:

I finished the story of Victor Marx and started on a book by W. Phillip Keller about Joshua. The first book was very easy reading... Victor Marx started the All Things Possible Ministry. You can follow the ministry on FB. Now, my second book... I have never heard of W. Phillip Keller, but I'm finding him to be a great author. I am now in search of his other books, A Shepherd Look at Psalm 23 and Lessons from a Sheepdog. I'm going to see if our local library has either of these books. Since Mom is home, I just sit and read. It's been very delightful. I'm going through the books on our shelves at home... And perhaps this summer while Abby and Alan are away, I will spend my time reading, reading and more reading! That's a wonderful thought!

Here are a few quotes from W. Phillip Keller:

“The absolute basic belief that every child of God must come to is that if he or she lives in obedience to God's Word and in joyous harmony with our Father, nothing can impinge on his life except by His permission. To live in close communion with Christ is to experience daily the calm assurance of God's complete care and management of every detail in our walk with Him. No matter if trials or turmoil come. No matter if there is trouble. No matter if there is pain or poverty. Each is for a supreme purpose understood best by my Father, but allowed to impact me for my ultimate benefit, and for His honor.”

― W. Phillip Keller, Strength of Soul: The Sacred Use of Time

“No pastor, no spiritual leader, is ever able to take his people any further than he himself has gone with God.”

― W. Phillip Keller, Joshua: Man of Fearless Faith

“God invites us to come directly into His presence by way of His own dear Son. He Himself put it to us so simply when He stated before His death in our stead: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). It is upon this beautiful basis that it is possible for people to come freely, gladly, boldly into the supreme presence of our Father as His beloved children. We are given the joyous privilege to approach Him in childlike confidence anytime, anywhere, without apprehension, all because of the profound provision Christ Himself has made for us to pray in this intimate way. Added to all of this, His Holy Spirit confirms within us that God is our Father. He assures us that Christ is our Friend, our Intercessor. In our praying, He, God's Spirit, also intercedes on our behalf, making our prayers pleasing and acceptable to God.”

― W. Phillip Keller, His Way to Pray: A Devotional Study of Prayer

“Contentment should be the hallmark of the man or woman who has put his or her affairs in the hands of God.”

― W. Phillip Keller, A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23

Are you now most drawn to reading one of his books? And when you are finished, send one over to me! (Our local library does not have any of his books!)

Mom Is Home...and Still Can't Comment...

Well... the Lord brought me through...

Abby was home, so I was able to get my scooter smog checked, get gas for my scooter and mail a letter and run a few errands. And yes, I even had time to go for a short run in the RAIN! The downpour stopped, but the ground was wet and the clouds were overhead... It wasn't as cool as I'd like... but I had a great time out there. I passed two runners... they were smiling just as much as I was beaming. I guess they love running in the rain as well.

Mom was not so active, so I had a rather relaxing day... It was a miracle!

This evening I watched my favorite TV show: Murdoch Mysteries!

Abby went out with her friends.

Alan taught all day and then played basketball!

Bible Study OnLine... and More...

This morning instead of Mom going to the Center, I had to take her to check on her blister. The doctor popped it and gave her some antibiotics. The Hospital was busy, busy, busy. I then dropped Mom back at the Center and it was already 12 noon. She doesn't walk well... so she might have to be home for two days. I guess I won't be resting much!

I had the Soochow Bible Study online and afterwards, I went for a run. It was supposed to rain, but nothing. So, it was another short run in the heat and humidity.

Mom as home right on time... I gave her only bread and water for dinner as they said she had diarrhea. Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I gave her a banana and I bought apples.

This evening Abby and I went for a massage. So nice! The weather cooled down!

Daily Lovely Insight:

For our Bible study, we looked at Joseph, running from temptation. His mindset was that he didn't want to sin against God. So, even though for his obedience, Potiphar threw him into the dungeon. God was with him and there in the 'pit', God was moving him one step closer to being second to Pharaoh. Sometimes, we don't see the next step. The place we are at today seems like the pit. We must see that God is with us... even in those places... and that He is in control... bringing us one step closer to fulfilling His calling upon our lives!

Rested for Another Day...

After sending Mom off, I got busy. But at around 10am, I decided to lay down! Two hours later... yes, it's true! I napped for two hours and it felt like a snap of a finger or a wink of an eye! Abby went to workout because she wanted to watch the Grizzly's game at World Gym. She didn't have class today.

According to the weather report, it was to rain at 1pm. But by 1:30, no rain. I had to head out for a short run. It was hot and humid. When I got home, Abby was on a group conversation with her basketball teammates. Soochow seems to be extending online classes all the way until May 22nd and maybe even to June 8th. I hope they will have a graduation ceremony this year. Isaiah didn't!

After a quick shower, I cooked -- chicken with rice and cucumber salad! Then tutoring started at 3:30. Abby also had tutoring this evening and Alan had online class.

Daily Lovely Insight:

Discipline? Punishment? Consequences? I had a great study this evening.

Rev. 3:19 says,

The Living... — Revelation 3:19 (NLT) - I correct and discipline...

God loves us, so He disciplines us and we should do the same with our children!

Another Great Day... I rested, cleaned and ran!

God gave me another day to rest...

I cancelled my appointment as I am still trying to preserve my voice.

I did the laundry, cleaned Mom's room, cooked, and took the time to rest!

Since Abby was home, I went for an hour run. She picked Mom up and served her dinner. I got home and had a quick shower.

After Mom went to bed, I went to my tap dancing class. I left early as I wanted to get fruit and not get home too late.

Blogged... read through my tutoring essay for tomorrow and cooked more food!

The weather looks cooler again tomorrow... Thank you, Jesus!

Col. 3:23 says,

Colossians 3:23 Poster by Plushism | Society6

Nehemiah followed this simple truth, even though he was a man from the Old Testament. So, the question is:

Do your actions and words confirm or deny your belief that God is your Father?

I think that's a beautiful question to ask yourself!

Well... I wish I had the luxury like Alan to do whatever I wanted for today... as a way to celebrate... but NO CAN-DO!

I did a load of laundry.

I mopped the floor.

I got Mom showered and dressed and got her fed.

Mom talked to Eddie for a bit.

We all went to church!

It was a wonderful service.

And I still cannot comment on the blog!!!!!!!

Daily Lovely Insight:

Isaiah 49:15

He Knows the Difficulties of Mothers

7 Highlights from Today's Sermon:

  1. We are all God’s children.
  2. God takes care of you. God will not forget you.
  3. Do not leave the covering and protection of God.
  4. Learning goes both way as do the blessings.
  5. Proverbs 22:6 says to train up the child in the way of the Lord, not the way of the world.
  6. Jesus grew in wisdom, stature and in favor with God and men. We should be doing the same on a daily basis.
  7. The goal is for all of us as “children” to stay connected to God and grow in our relationship with Him.
