The Blessing of May...

Well... May is one day away! I can't believe it...

And it looks like things will still be under "lock down" in the States... maybe for this entire summer...

This morning, I read Psalm 20. And I noticed what a blessing this psalm is in the way it is phrased:

Renewing Passport and Buying Running Shoes and Experiencing God...

I forgot to mention that yesterday, scootering home from my evening Bible study, the Grand Hotel had the word PEACE displayed using the lights from the windows. For several days they had displayed the word ZERO as we had no new cases. So, it was perfect as I blogged about what is peace yesterday and that was the word for the day!

Midterm Exams are almost over... I usually have my Wednesday Soochow Bible study, but not today. Instead, Alan and I went down to get the tax papers and to renew my passport. The place was so empty that I was able to finish in less than 10 minutes. I was so grateful that they let me use my credit card as I totally forgot to bring money. And then I had enough change to pay for a new set of photos as the ones I had just done showed my teeth and for the postage to have the new passport mailed to me. Thank you God! Alan didn't finish filling the taxes as they don't really start until May 1st and have extended the deadline to June 30th.

Throughout the day, the Lord reminded me of Ephesians 3:16, "That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man."

Even during my run in the heat, I knew God was strengthening me with might by his Spirit in the inner man.

I cooked more food and had such fun tutoring. Abby and I had another walk at the end of the evening!

My heart overflows with gratitude...

I still need to finish my message for Sunday!

What Is Peace?

I have always enjoyed the story of Gideon... A man who was scared and became a mighty warrior. In Judges 6: 23-34, Gideon heard from God and built an altar, calling it "The LORD is peace." During this time, I think we all need to build an altar and name it "The LORD is peace." I know a lot of people are praying that covid-19 will be gone, but will they experience peace? Probably not, because they will proceed to worry about the economy recovering. And when the economy does recover, will they experience peace? Probably not... People can't have peace without the LORD. God wants to come into our lives and speak His peace over us. Like Jesus said in John 14:27 and John 16:33,
27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
I think it's time that we make an altar within our heart. Name it THE LORD IS PEACE.

That's my insight for today...

I continue to live out the truth of my strength comes from the Lord. In the morning I had my Bible study and we talked about the slandering tongue and the gossiping tongue. The Mexican meatloaf and veggie rice plus lady's finger dessert were gobbled up...

I came back home and put away the clothes and put dinner in the rice cooker! It was warm (and I noticed that this week is going to be warm) but I wanted to go out for a quick run! I rushed home and Isaiah was home. Before taking a shower, I scootered over to the library to pick up my reserved books. I have to preview them before my tutoring session tomorrow.

I had my evening Bible study. We are starting a new study on the Trustworthiness of God.

When I got back, I took down the recycling and found two gadgets in the 'recycling bin'. They didn't have cords, but I found cords for them. One was something like a CD player with a place to put iPods and listen to music. Exactly what I wanted! I have three iPods and wanted to use them, but they won't sync to the mini speakers that we have! The other gadget was a ViewSonic phone and 'iPad'. After charging it, NO PROBLEM! God supplies...

Abby and I also went for a late evening walk...

The But...

I spent the day preparing for my Sunday talk on Family... and the focus for my talk will be on CHOICES... We don't have the choice of who we call "Family"... but we are faced with the choice of extending forgiveness and grace. And that brought to light what I read this morning in Proverbs. Have you ever noticed how many of the proverbs have the "but" in the second phrase? The righteous are... BUT the fools... The book of Proverbs was hollering the idea of CHOICE... And I realized that God is merciful to leave some choices for Him to make and we are to trust that He knows best! BUT on the other hand, we are not the ones to control the choice of those we love. We can counsel, but we are not to manipulate and we are not responsible for their choices! The Bible is filled with parents faced with children who made poor choices. And just as I'm grieved by my children's poor choices, so our Heavenly Father is grieved when I make poor choices. As Christians, we have the "BUT". We can decide to follow Him and not our own fleshly desires.

Today was again filled with the power and strength of the LORD.

I had time for a run and time to wash my hair!

I tutored at two places for 2.5 hours...

Isaiah was home since it's Midterms Week.

I made a Mexican meatloaf and grilled/baked chicken! And I also made a dessert! With everyone home for meals this week, I will probably have to cook again tomorrow!

Remember the "BUT"... and make a choice pleasing to God!

A New Insight!

Isaiah 40:29 - Latter-day Saint Scripture of the Day
Most people probably have read Isaiah 40: 28-29 --
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.

So, I read those verses this morning... And it occurred to me... I often say that I'm tired... and I pray... and still complain about how tired I feel... I realized that I don't live out the promises God has given me. He gives power to the weary, to the weak, to those who have no might. He increases my strength. He is the strength of my life.

In light of this truth, I went through the day so differently. I had tutoring for three hours. I had to ride 45 minutes one way... So, I finished at 1 and got back home by around 2pm. I then had to make rice and a veggie dish for our dinner this evening. Of course, I had to get Mom in the shower as I didn't do that this morning. And since the car was still in the shop, we each rode our scooter. Mom was with Dad! She loves being on the scooter. When we arrived, we got busy with setting up. I had to translate! Before the service, I found out two answers to prayer: Paul's father in law sold a house they have and Esther found a renter for her place in Hsinchu! The message was on Philippians 2: 4, the Mind of Christ.

After the service, we had people over at our house for dinner. The food was delicious. Kurtis was able to come over. When every one left, I had to clean up! The kids and Alan helped! Isaiah mopped the floor. Abby took down the recycling. Alan was cleaning a fan we found.

All day I felt the strength of the LORD, increasing from within! What a difference when we live, believing in His truth!

And that's another thing. I think each day, instead of just blogging about my day, I want to share one insight from my morning time.

Isaiah 40:29 live out this truth... He indeed gives power and strength. Feeling weary? Feeling tired? Feeling like you have no might? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of Heaven and Earth neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable! He is our strength. He gives power! BELIEVE and LIVE!

Yes, You Got It...

The day again flew by...

Isaiah had tutoring in the morning...

Abby worked on her job of translating for a friend...

I baked a chicken dish in preparation of people coming over for dinner tomorrow night. I also rushed out to buy some steak for Alan's Overseer's BBQ get together. I decided not to go so that I can be here to take care of Mom... They all wanted me to bring Mom along, but when Mom gets off schedule, I suffer for it... So, I had to decline.

Because our car is in the shop AGAIN, Abby took Mom on her scooter and I rode on my 50 cc behind her. I then rode home and did a load of clothes... before the clothes were finished, I was rushing out the door to meet up with Abby and Mom. Oh you might ask why? Mom can't get on the scooter without assistance.

We scootered back and on the way, I dropped off a CD player for a friend. It's amazing how people don't have CD or DVD players anymore... I have all of these items... So, people just message me when they need these items.

Mom had dinner and I did too... I wanted to go for a run as the weather was cool... but I never had the time... WAHHHHHH...

After Mom went to bed, I got on the computer to prep for translating for Sunday's message! Plus, I needed to finish my message for May 3rd.

Oh... I also have to tutor at 10am and the student is out in Beitou... that's a 45 minute scooter ride from my house...

Fun Tutoring...

Yes, it was time with Alan... but we didn't have time to read our books... We will have to do that tomorrow... We wanted to get food at Costco as we don't have Love Feast at church. I cook for about 12 people each Sunday!

Alan and I had a nice lunch at home... And then I was heading out to tutoring...

I enjoy tutoring... We worked on two essays -- one about writing an alternative ending and another persuasive essay! I pushed my student and got both finished!

I scootered home and it wasn't raining!

We had dinner at home and then Abby and I went for a nice walk.

We ended the evening with family time!

Midterm week for Alan and the kids... Please pray. Accounting exam on May 3rd -- the kids need to do well on this exam! We need a miracle!

Rush, Rush, Rush...

Yes, it was another one of those days...

After Mom went off to the center, I settled down and read a bit... just a little bit. I'm reading Roald Dahl, Tales of the Unexpected...

I then rushed out for a run as I had tutoring at 1pm.

I wanted to put dinner in the crock pot... chili...

So, after the run, I showered and rushed off... dinner was cooking!

After tutoring, I rushed over to the Center... and while waiting downstairs, I got my passport pictures done as I will need to renew my ROC passport!

I then went upstairs and got Mom and walked her over to the dentist. They did the fitting... very nice! 82US$...

I walked Mom back to the Center and rushed off to buy a few of the missing ingredients for the crock pot dinner...

I rushed home and while going to the entrance, I heard Alan's scooter... He has not had Thursday basketball because of covid 19. So, he went to play tennis!

I unpacked everything, stirred in the missing ingredients and proceeded to bake a cake... Mom was back!

Isaiah and Abby had their first "Live Worship" Streaming Session and I was 'stuck' with babysitting the gal's three kids... I wanted to spend the evening reading... Oh well...

Alan had his Overseers meeting... so he was not around!

I felt so rushed today...

Another Great Study... Another Fast Day...

The morning went by so fast...

I was trying to prepare for my message and I looked and it was already 11am. I had a quick lunch and rested for 30 minutes and it was time to head out.

I didn't go for a run today... NO TIME...

We talked about faith and prayer...

I rushed back and got Mom's dinner and stuff ready... grabbed my teaching bag and flew out the door!

I worked on Roald Dahl with the kids... FUN STUFF...

I rushed back and it was time for my walk with Abby...

We headed back and counseling started... she had an on line meeting and Isaiah was tutoring...

I just can't believe how fast the day went...

Tomorrow Mom will get her false teeth back...

A Delightful Personal Retreat...

I have been wanting to give myself a personal retreat each month... but that has not happened!

Today IT DID!

I put away the gadgets... set up the little TV dinner tray... got my books and Bible study set and a large mug of coffee...

I read and read and read... leisurely...

And then in the afternoon, I went for a run... and dropped by the library to pick up more books... I took a quick shower and spent another hour reading...

For lunch, before going out for a run, I had pepperoni pizza and a can of coca cola...

For months, I had been talking about setting the 12th of each month as a personal retreat day... and now, I am just setting aside ONE day of the month... and this was my FIRST!

The day went by so fast... too fast... It was so enjoyable...

I will definitely set another day in May...

Another Day Flew By...

This morning while Alan and I were praying... a bird flew right to our bedroom window, stood there... and chirped quite loudly before flying away...

Then this afternoon while out for my run, I saw a turtle, out sunning himself on the grass... it was quite amazing... It had its neck stretched way out...

As for me, I tackled the back balcony... it's not done yet... and finished a load of laundry...

Ran errands, including mailing out the paperwork for a government subsidy... I wonder how much we will receive for the safety bars and bathroom renovation...???

I made a special rice dish for dinner as we still have a whole pizza from our dinner last night... the kids will enjoy that!

Isaiah had a very difficult exam... Midterms will start next week...

I also bought our car insurance on line... another 300US$!

So far Asiana Airlines are not making any 'announcements' about their flights to the States in July... I called and all they can say is "WAIT"!

Church Worship...

Today was a beautiful day...

Since I donated blood yesterday, I made sure to drink a lot more liquid and took some extra vitamins...

Last night we had our first Marriage Builders LINE group... and it was so much fun! So, today I had to go and buy a few gifts for all those who participated in our 'contest'. I also bought a few plants for our first floor 'garden' area... the problem is that the area is completely dead looking. It's an eye sore. I need to get that area filled with some nice plants that need little sun and can withstand WIND! So far, nothing has worked!

While I was out, I also went to pay a few bills...

Mom was happy at home, watching Little House... She watched three episodes...

Church was a worship service... and it was fantastic... we gathered together and proclaimed JESUS REIGNS!

I had ordered pizza for dinner... pepperoni pizza... YUMMY! Our neighbors came over... we love having people over at our house!

Isaiah had tutoring...

Kurtis hung out with us and then Abby gave him a ride...

The week is starting... and it's going to be another busy one!

Dentist Again...

It was a busy day...

Mom had another dental appointment... so they will add another tooth to her set of false teeth... This is purely for cosmetic reason... It will cost a little over 80US$ and it should be finished by Wednesday. Tuesday would be better as I teach on Wednesday... So, I'm praying that maybe at 2:30 on Tuesday I will be able to get Mom back to the dentist and she will have her false teeth back! I tutor at 4:30 on Tuesday...

And we came home for lunch... and while she rested, I went for a run... in the hot hot sun!

After I got back, it was time for her massage. Abby went with her... Alan drove them there... and I went and donate blood. I wanted to do this earlier, but since I came back from the States and with the corona virus situation, I had to wait 30 days or more... so, this was the 40th day...

I rushed back and Alan went to pick them up at the bus stop as I asked Abby to take the bus with Mom back... Mom loves riding the bus...

We had dinner at home.

This evening at 9:30 we had a LINE group with some of the couples. We're trying to see how this will work.

Abby went for a swim... Isaiah was home, working on his school stuff and playing video game... I suspect he was playing more than studying...

Another Hot Day...

Alan and I had time to read and catch up and go out to lunch... then we went to find things. We were thinking of going to the Asiana Office, but we didn't want to be running around.

I had tutoring this afternoon, so he took care of Mom.

On the way back from tutoring, I stopped at Costco and it was busy in there. Kleenex came in... and people were all getting one huge bag. That was the limit -- one per card! Last week, the entire area was empty... I didn't get any...

I came home and dinner was already made... and it was delicious!

We decided to have family time after Abby and I went on our walk... And Kurtis came by. So, he joined us... how nice!

We ended the evening with watching some TV...

Rest & Run...

Abby was home all morning... the teacher had set for the Microsoft Team On Line Class... and it didn't work! That's why I really don't think education should be done on line... Well... Abby slept in until 9 before she logged on... The class started at 8:10... hee, hee, hee...

I had set the morning to rest... just hang out at home, so that was fun to have her around!

I had also been going through all the electronics and now have the right music gadget synced to the right speaker.

I had tutoring at 1pm and Abby left at 3pm for her 3:10 class...

I went for a run at 3:30, hoping that it was cooler... but it wasn't. I went for 12kms. I think I had momentary insanity!

I again rushed into the shower and Mom was home just 5 minutes later... I had her dinner already made!

After Alan came back, I went out to run a few errands and came home to make flan... Abby's request!

Oh... I am also trying to wear my old contacts... I'm about -3.75 to -4.0 now... these contacts are -2.75. I can see... but not too clearly... If I like wearing them, I might go back to buying contacts. So far... no decision yet...

Fire & Earthquake Insurance OK... Now the Government Subsidy...

The weather was quite nice, but I was too busy to go for a run... so I made today a 'rest day'...

The driver did come EARLY to pick Mom up... so we have arranged it that Mom will be picked up first at 9am and then the driver will go and pick up the others. Mom loves cruising... so she will enjoy the ride.

I got on the computer to buy the fire and earthquake insurance and by God's miracle, it worked! I hope to get some coupons for all the hassle that happened because of the ordeal... I also signed up for the air fryer raffle...

Then it was time to get ready for my afternoon Bible study at Soochow. We again had a great group of people... talking about prayer!

I met up with Abby to find out about the funds her basketball team needed... and then rushed home to get Mom's dinner ready. I was off to tutor...

Tutoring went well... and I rushed back home, to have dinner, go for a walk with Abby and then got to the Complex meeting 20 minutes late. It actually started late... so I was on time!

I left at 10pm as a student needed my input about her persuasive speech and I told her I'd be on line and ready to help her at 10pm.

After I finish blogging, the wifi will be turned off... and I'll be heading to bed! I'm ready to sleep...

Oh... what do I mean about the government subsidy? I am still in the process of completing all the paperwork to get some money for changing the bathroom from having a tub to a shower stall... plus the safety bars that we now have. Mom just loves the safety bar by the toilet... every time she is in the bathroom, she comments on how she loves her new bathroom safety bars...

Bible Study & Other Things...

The transportation to the Center has not worked out... The driver is trying to get used to the route and they definitely did not budget the time correctly. These are OLD people... They don't move that fast. So, even though the distance is short, the time is actually LONGER than they had planned. I drove Mom to the Center again... But tomorrow, they are adjusting the time to 9:15. Let's see if this works!

I had my Bible study at 10am. Topic for today -- the self-deprecating tongue... looking at Moses from Exodus 4. I had made a casserole and I gave the leftover to our host. Another sister made banana bread and that was eaten very quickly. One sister brought fruit... so we had quite a feast!

I came home and did the laundry, got my tutoring materials together and tried again to buy the fire and earthquake insurance on line... STILL LOCKED!

I went for a quick run... and it was hot.

I got back, rushed into the shower, put the clothes in the dryer and dashed out the door.

Isaiah came home to help with Mom. He left and I was home maybe 10 minutes later.

Mom went to bed and I finished folding the clothes... checked email... and prepared for my tutoring tomorrow.

Alan came home from class... Abby came home from tutoring and had a 1200 word essay to finish by tomorrow... She tends to procrastinate. So, I don't think the teacher gave her the assignment just yesterday... I think she has known about the assignment and chose to watch Korean soap opera instead of working on this... Isaiah came home from basketball practice. He has been buying these Japanese warrior models... and went with Vikki and bought two display cases. He took the time to arrange these models nicely and now, they are all on top of our piano! It's his new hobby!

What An "Off" Day...

First, Mom's transportation didn't show up... something happened with their first 'pick-up' point, so they were seriously delayed...

So, I took Mom...

Then when I came back, I got on the computer and started the process to renew all the fire and earthquake insurance. On my first one, I was blocked... after many phone calls, it turned out that my original insurance company made a HUGE mistake... And to correct the mistake, it will take three days! These people... especially since I went there on Friday to double check...

So... the insurance thing wasn't finished... I took off for a quick run... It was hot...but windy... a chilly wind...

I got back and two of the kids I used to tutor needed some help with their sonnets... I got caught with helping them and had to take a quick shower before Mom was back... She's back a bit earlier these days!

Alan got back and I took off for tutoring... That was a lot of fun...

Abby and I went for a walk and the Dead Sea make up counter lady roped us in to try their product...

What a day... I am sure it will be better tomorrow... I guess our verse for this year is so true... I made plans... but it is the Lord's plan that will prevail...I sure do need Jesus to forgive when I have such an "off" day... and I should be more patient... Thank you Jesus for the cross... tomorrow is a new day... and it will be better...

He Has Risen!

Although many churches didn't have their services... and went on line, the LORD has risen... Nothing can change that eternal truth... That's the very foundation of our faith... and our hope!

We had church and it was a blessed service.

The speaker gave his testimony...

And since we weren't having love feast, I had people over at our house. I had made the meat and the veggies and we had panini sandwiches... and quesadillas... FABULOUS...

The kids helped me clean up and I used the evening to organize a few more areas... I went through my mom's paperwork... Tomorrow the Center will be providing transportation... I will see how that works... I think Mom will love it...

Happy 33rd Wedding Anniversary!

It was just another day in April... but we tried to make it special...

When Mom went for her massage, Alan and I drove over to the nearby park and sat on the park bench and read together.

On the way back, we stopped at Carrefour, our local supermarket, and bought a bottle of sparkling fruit wine... for less than 10US$ and toasted each other over dinner!

This evening we had our family time...

I did go for a run... in fact, I ran every day this week and each time I was able to go for an hour... This is a first... I have not had the time to 'train' in the last two years... I guess it was back in 2016 or 2017 when I had the time to run... six days a week... each time at least an hour... on Saturday, I went for two hours or more... Now, I'm ecstatic if I can carve out four hours a week... Well... I'm not planning on joining any races this year... Maybe for my 60th...

I spent time trying to renew the insurance for the houses... and I couldn't believe that all three major companies were updating their server... I will have to wait until Monday!

Debt Free!

Yes, it's true... we are debt free...

I picked this date because it's Good Friday. Jesus cleared our debt so that we can be free... And so, I thought it would be a special day to be debt free... on earth as it is in heaven...

Mom Bea gave us the financial gift this past Summer... But I didn't feel the Lord wanted us to pay it off last year... and I know why...

Today was special as it is also the day before our 33rd Wedding Anniversary... 33 is my favorite number... so this is a special anniversary!

And yes, this is before Resurrection Sunday... So, the veil was torn in two when Jesus breathed his last and on the cross opened the way for us to be reconciled...

So, for many reasons, today was the day... Alan and I went to the bank after we withdrew the amount for the last payment... 77,000NT$! What a number! God's perfection!

It's a great feeling... Celebrate... Jesus loves you... Jesus loves me... For God so loved the world...

New Bible Study and Other Things...

Yes, it was a busy day...

I went for a quick run right after dropping Mom off... as I knew I would not have any other time.

Then, I rushed to get ready as I had to run errands before my Bible study at 1pm.

I got my shoes fixed... made copies of the study and went to the library to pick up a book... I wanted to buy more fruit, but didn't have time!

The Bible study was absolutely great... Nine out of 11 people came and we have two overseas students -- one from the Philippines and the other from Malaysia. As far as I can tell, they seem to know Jesus and a couple of them talked about how Jesus changed their lives! I picked the study on prayer and they all seemed to love it! I'm really excited!

I rushed back and switched bag and went off to tutor!

It felt good to get home... eat something before counseling tonight!

Isaiah and Abby both had tutoring...

I blogged and I know it will feel so good to go to bed tonight!

Fast & Feast...

Fast from fears... Feast on God's peace...

Since this is Holy Week, I decided NOT to turn on the wifi until one of the kids came home. Isaiah came home at 4:30 and was like, "Hey, how come the wifi is not on?"

I spent the day "resting"... feasting on silence... It was fantastic!

I started organizing all the cords and electronics that we've accumulated... as I'm trying to find two cords for Abby's Apple computer... these cords are not cheap. She "lost" two of them... they are some sort of adapters. They came with the computer, but she can't remember where they went!

I have not found these adapters yet!

I did go for a longer run... It was overcast... cooler, but no rain! It was nice to be out at the park. James messaged us that where he is at in Vietnam, it's like a ghost town. Annie and KR are still in lock down and going stir crazy. Eddie said that it's pretty quiet there, but not as bad as Vietnam or the States. Things here are fairly 'normal'. We wear masks... We have alcohol spray everywhere, even in the elevator. We will have our service this Sunday! HALLELUJAH, but most big churches have cancelled services and gone on line.  Schools are still in session! Another big PRAISE THE LORD!

After Mom went to bed, I finished the task... When I first started, I didn't think I'd finish. All the cords were piled on our dining room table. I couldn't believe how many we had... Now I have a big bag of give away... and one basket of keep!

Tomorrow I will start my Bible study at Soochow University on PRAYER. Please pray!

Growing Awareness...

It was another fantastic day...

I dropped Mom off and started with washing her blankets... Then I put together dinner as I had tutoring tonight...

I worked on organizing the vitamin cabinet and went for a run... This afternoon a dear friend came over and we hung out.

Alan came home and it was time for me to ride to my tutoring in the rain!!!! The student told me that she's been recommended for Honors English. I was so thrilled. I told her she should go for it... and then continue to Advanced Placement English! We shall see...

On the way back I rode to Costco, hoping to get tissue as it was supposedly on sale. Ha... THERE WAS NOTHING AT COSTCO except for a sign that said, SOLD OUT!

I scootered over to Carrefour and got tissue... I also bought color bleach as Mom's blanket needs it... The next time I wash it, I'm going to pre-treat it!

It felt so nice to be home... Isaiah and Abby and Alan were all home... I was wet and cold...

It was a day to grow in my experience and awareness of the presence of God.
