One Last Day

The day started early as usual...

A friend was coming over for lunch so I took mom out for a walk.

We went and had ramen... then she took me over to Target and I bought almond m&m!

We got home and had the Oreo cookies chocolate pie that she brought overSuper yummy!

After she left, I took mom for another walk about.

Then prepped dinner - more noodles!

Out for another after dinner walk.

I weighed my luggages one more time and hope to sleep by 12 midnight!

For the next two days no blogging...

Missed Blogging Yesterday!

Yes, it's true! The day sped by and I did not have a free minute to blog!

Church in the morning with Mom Bea and Aunt Ethel. Alden and his family also made it to church! Like the children's Service Alan started in Taipei, many churches in the states also try to do something special to take the attention away from Halloween. The church had a bumper slide and a dunk tank set up. They also had food in the outdoor area. And of course they had coffee, lemonade and donut holes.

Mom Bea took us out to Marie Callendar's for brunch. Super yummy!

We went back to their house for chocolate cake and just to hang out!

By 1:30, I had to get on the road. So I packed up everything and headed out, saying goodbye to everyone.

The drive was fairly smooth. Remember: I was driving the truck! I just had to keep repeating to myself the next freeway exit. And I had to stay awake as I was up late, thinking and praying for Alan's special service. I got off of Sepluveda and stopped at the 99cents store. I had to use the restroom... and look for a lemon pepper spice. I looked on the shelves, nothing! As I was about to walk out, there sitting on the side was one lone bottle of the spice I wanted. So weird. I asked the clerk if there was more in the store. She looked at me and told me to look at the spice area, where I had combed through the shelves and found nothing. So, it was totally a gift from God to have one bottle sitting there on the way out of the store. I bought it and headed to mom's. I got there just after 4pm. Perfect! I unloaded everything, called Mom Bea to tell her I've arrived safely and started to organize everything, because my brother ordered more stuff for me to take back to Taiwan for him.

At 5:15, it was time to get over to Annie's for dinner. Pam, Jesse, and Little Abby were already there. We had a fabulous dinner. Pam came over to mom's and Suz also came by! I got my folks in bed and we hung out and chatted until midnight! Suz had brought over two huge tubs of clothes for me! Fabulous! Pam took some for Haikey and I will go over the rest...

So this morning I got up early to set things out as the helper was here by 8am. I left at 8:30 to take the van over to have the wheels change. I walked back and got mom. We had a good walk back over to the tire place. The rest of the morning was spent packing. I now have both pieces lacked. And I have a box of stuff left to be "picked up" in March when I'm back! I had to pack the things for Eddie and James which I must bring back now!

William will be back from New York. And Alden's daughter will stop by this evening on her way down to San Diego. I thought I'd better blog now or else I'll miss another day!

Breakthrough

What a day!

Annie spent her day volunteering at a free dental clinic. So, I hung out with mom and dad. I walked mom over to their house and together we took Gracie out for a quick walk. Then after lunch I gave dad his shower. I had packed my two pieces, which I will have to repack since my older brother ordered more stuff. I was trying to help my younger brother by bringing back all the goodies he had bought and left at Annie's. Now I'm not sure what I'll do.

My dear friend Angel came and picked up her goodies. They were heading back up, so I left to head down. Now here is the breakthrough. Annie had said that I should drive Kurtis' truck. I was like "Are you serious?" Me, driving a truck! She assured me that it was the same size as a van. I was not convinced. But last night, after my treadmill workout, on my way back, I saw a truck like Kurtis', parked on the side. I looked and behind it was a van. Annie is right- it's about the same size!

So, I drove the truck to San Diego...

All the way down, I was listening to praise songs and praying. It wasn't that bad. Tomorrow, I will have to drive back. I drove the speed limit and saved a lot of gas... Of course, I never switched lane - kept to the slow lane the whole way down. It took 2 hours and 20 minutes to get from door to door.

Mom Bea had made scalloped potatoes, corn, and flan for dinner. I had already gotten all the meals ready for my parents. I'm only going to be in San Diego for one evening... but it sure is good to be down here!

Fresh Tamales and Other Goodies

I'm very blessed! A friend drove almost three hours - one way- to drop off fresh tamales and Mexican pan!

Today was indeed another busy day. I had no time for a nap or just to sit around. No time to work on my Luke talks. I did buy a few items for people, but I'm not done yet. I hope I'll have time to shop when I'm down in San Diego. I head down tomorrow. I can't buy too much as my luggage and box already feel very heavy! They feel like they are already 23 kilos each!

Did a treadmill walk this evening. Great workout! It helped to keep me awake.

The Chair!

Annie picked me up bright and early!

I wore a monkey shirt in green, hoping it would help me to relax...but as soon as she took out the "needle", I started to sweat!

Three hours of torture... crown is on... My right jaw is sore... my whole mouth feels traumatized! That crown is cemented on for life... I forgot to mention that while she was working on the crown, Annie discovered a very small cavity on the tooth behind. She had to fill it as it would be nudged so close to the crown that if it got bigger, the problem would be a lot worse!

We had reserved lunch at the Y! They had mashed potato and jello! How good to eat soft food!

The rest of the day went by fairly fast. Annie moved the truck and I found more stuff that I need to pack to bring back! I'm maxed out already... but I still have a shopping list of things for people. I might have to leave some books for my march trip! No, not might... I will definitely be leaving things to bring back in March!

Foggy Hot Day

No, there was no fog... it was just my brain. I got up at 2 am and stayed up until 5! Then I slept from 5-7:30 and I felt like I could have slept all day!

Walked mom over to the exercise room and she was on each machine for only 2 minutes! I was planning on taking her out for a drive in the car, but my brain was too foggy and it was another extremely hot day!

I made ramen but was not hungry at all. Took dad out again in the afternoon and one time around, I was feeling the heat!

We had a great dinner and watched 📺. Annie, KR, and Gracie dropped by for a visit. I hope to hit the sack early as Annie made an appointment for 8am to get my tooth 👑!

Pray... I have a phobia about going in the chair...

Oh, I did get my driver's license renewed, using the computer! What a miracle!

Not Sleeping Much

Yes, I was up early... Time with God, and then I tried to go back to sleep, but my mind was filled with things to do! The caretaker came at 7:50. She is a very nice Filipino lady! She put the breakfast out and took care of dad. I gave dad his haircut and went out for a walk with my mom! It was tremendously hot.

Mom and I came back and I gave mom her haircut! She went into the shower and I set up the foot soaking tub and got dad start with his toe nail treatment. While the caretaker worked on dad, I went out to the garage and checked what Alan left here for me to bring back. I sorted and got things packing. Never too early to start packing!

Lunch was a simple salad and we all went down for a nap after the helper left at 1! At 2, mom watched Little House but she didn't understand the title. So we watched together. By 4:30, it was time to prepare a simple dinner. After dinner we all went out for a walk. I pushed dad in the wheelchair.

The first game of the World Series started tonight. Dodgers against Astros... I flipped over to the game just to look at the score - Dodgers leading 3-1!

You might be wondering how I can be blogging... I decided to bring the iPad and with wifi in the house, I now can blog while I'm in the states!

I still have lots to do... but it was a very productive day!

Airport, Flight, Crack Tooth & Other Fun Stuff

Yes, it's 9:30 pm, October 23, Monday and I'm sitting in my mom's living room, blogging as I take this short break! I don't want to sit too long as I think I just might fall asleep!

I was at the Taipei Domestic Airport by 12 noon, October 23. Alan had to teach in the afternoon. With two 32 kilo pieces plus a carry-on, I didn't want to take the taxi. I caught the 12:30 bus to the Taoyuan International Airport and was checked in by 1:45! Fast and easy, even though I had to reshuffle the goods in the box and the luggage. The box was 33.9 and the luggage was 29.9! Yes together they added up to 64 but they weren't 32 each! The guy wouldn't let me go... unless I wanted to pay more! No way! I re- juggled!

I went down to B1 and got three tea eggs and soy bean milk, my lunch! And I worked! I wrote a book review and worked on my talk, Luke 13! I had to set the alarm because I thought I might get too into Luke 13 and forget the time and miss my flight.

We finally did board at 7pm and the flight was quite smooth... except when they passed out the bag of crackers. I took a bite and chewed then felt something really hard... Hum... what did they put in the cracker?.. it turned out to be a piece of my tooth! Yes it's true - I cracked a piece off one of my molars! Not good... (Annie says I might have to go into her office and get a temporary piece on it until I get back to Taiwan! This was not what I had expected! Please pray!)

I landed and got my heavy pieces and was sent to Line A! That's the line where they will ask you to open your items for inspection. It was so interesting as I had a chance to look at what people bring in and what the custom officials have collected as throw-away! Treasure trove of goodies... I'd like to go dumpster diving behind the airport custom trash bins! Lots of fruits, fake bags, you can't imagine... Well, they asked to open my luggage and they didn't discover anything "illegal". Of course not... I wouldn't do that! But once the luggage was opened, I couldn't get everything back in... so I just had to load it back in my cart and go out the exit. The custom officers were all so very nice, asking me what I do for a living. They couldn't believe that I was bringing back a mop head and a dish rack!

KR was there already, waiting to pick me up. He had already gone around a few times!  The weather was so hot. It was nice to catch up with him and hear about what's happening with William, Tyler and Kurtis!

We surprised mom... and she was so confused... I usually call her at 6:30 and that was when I walked into her living room! The rest of the evening was spent cleaning, sorting and organizing! I love the wooden flooring that KR and Annie put in. So fabulous... the old carpet made the house look so dirty. But other than the beautiful flooring, every drawer had to be organized... the refrigerator had to be wiped down. Annie said I will have help every day from 8-1, so I can go off with mom. Tomorrow I need to cut dad's hair before he gets a shower. And I need to soak his toes and file them down. But it will be nice to go out for walks with Mom. We might even go out shopping, as my brother Eddie wants me to buy a few things for his sweet daughter, Emily!

I've been sitting long enough... I need to take a shower and go to bed... I think I will be up quite early...

In the Strength of the Lord

I had two services to attend and speak at today... The Lord helped me through... I know many people were praying for me...

God gave me time to get lots of things done, including repacking and buying fruit and preparing for the Love Feast!

I had set out everything so that I didn't forget anything...

Alan had a whole day tennis tournament... If they kept on winning, he would not have made it to the service. He came at 5:30... and said, "We really should not have lost. One of our stronger doubles lost in a tie breaker!"

Unfortunately, this evening after we got home, a neighbor called to complain... In our complex we are not to rent the parking spaces out to people who do not live in our complex... well... we rented a space for our dear friends... The space is rented in our name, but it's their car. If this neighbor makes a fuss... we asked our friends to put the car in our name... what else can we do?  Our friends are going to have their second baby in late January of 2018. They will definitely need a parking space.  We can't park  our car in that space as the height is just a little bit too low. The top of our car will get scratched. We tried it before... I guess it's quite troublesome to change the ownership of the car, and it's just quite bothersome happening the night before I'm to take off for 10 days. If you are reading this, please pray that a solution can be found without our neighbor causing more trouble.

And one more prayer request --  pray that all my luggage gets through without any problems. I can't believe that we used to travel with 32 kilo bags all the time... now, these bag/box look and feel so HEAVY!

Goods Bought, Luggage Packed!

Alan and I went to RT Mart and Costco so that we can fill up the refrigerator with lots of goodies for when I'm gone. We bought fish sticks, chicken nuggets, Pollock patties, frozen veggies, and a lot more. We spent more than 170US$!

We bought so much that it was quite a task to get everything packed into the frig!

I then biked over to pick up the watch at the repair shop and then found the hair sticks my sister wanted. I also completed a few more errands...

This evening I worked to get the bags packed... oh... they are maxed out!

Walking in the Rain!

I stayed home and worked on my talks almost the entire day...

But at 4pm, I decided to go out to run a few errands and to look for hair sticks for my sister... plus to go out to the park for a walk in the rain!

While on my walk, I saw two 'old friends', people I usually run past at the river park. I hadn't seen them for ages as I have not been out there... I have not ran for several weeks...

What did I finish?

My talk notes for Sunday... and the ppt files!

I have not finished the talk for November 5th... YIKES... I must get that done before I go to the States!

Isaiah did not have class, so he was home. It was nice to hang out with him...

I also did some cooking... with the rain, I decided to make soup as well as a dish with ground beef...

Tomorrow... Alan and I will go and buy the goodies for Children's Day. That's the Sunday when I'll be away and Alan will be in charge of the Sunday service! I'm trying to help him get as much preparation done as possible! Gifts ordered... Love Feast ordered... Cake ordered... And I have people who are helping out to make sure everything is ready! It should be a blessed service!

Juggling!

This afternoon, I worked on juggling the two pieces of luggage plus my carry on... trying to get everything to fit...

I WILL pay for the extra weight... not ME... but a dear friend. I'm bringing things back for her and she said she will pay the 64US$! Praise the Lord. So, each piece will be 32kilos... plus 7-10 kilos for my carry on! (Annie, I hope you're reading this... it's really true!)

That means if I need to... I can pay the extra 32US$ and bring 32 kilos instead of 23 kilos! According to my dear sister, I already have more than that... plus things for my brother, Eddie, that I can be bringing back... So... I juggle today... in another 12 days, to come back to Taiwan, I'll be juggling again!

This reminds me of a verse in Proverbs 31:14 --

Except I'm on a plane... bringing food and who knows what else from afar...

I hope to go and shop again on Saturday... now that I have a bit of extra luggage weight...

Tuesday Evening Small Group

For the Tuesday Evening Small Group, we're studying Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World... The homework is fantastic... and one of the gals has an account on rightnowmedia! It's amazing all the stuff that's available... I've really enjoyed listening and watching an assortment of Christian 'stuff'.

The study starts at 7pm and we go until 10 or later... The ladies always bring lots of goodies... Tonight we had salad, sushi, Korean fried chicken, truffles... and the list goes on...

This afternoon, I had my last four hour block of teaching with my NSB students. I brought different board and card games... They didn't want to stop...

I had several errands that I wanted to get done but with the slight sprinkle, I never got to any of them.

I hope to get to them tomorrow... although there is a possibility that a typhoon might be approaching...
