Restful Day...

What a mess... This form of Covid-19, omicron, is so contagious that this island is a mess... No one knows what is going on. The symptoms are mild... but it is wrecking a lot of havoc.

Mom's right leg hurts... so I guess that's a blessing in disguise for me. She can't move without assistance! Wow... I was able to rest!

The weather got cooler and I was so tempted to run, run, run and never turn back... I didn't go until 6pm.

Abby had the youth launch at the bowling alley. That was difficult, too as people were cancelling, and she never knew how many would be able to make it.

Mom went to bed early... Yes, before 6pm! She didn't want to do anything!

And it is weird. I can't comment on Blog anymore...

Daily Lovely Insight:

The unexpected often catches us off-guard, but God is always well aware... Trust Him!

And another thing: don't let the 7 years of famine eat away the 7 years of fruitfulness... I like that thought. So often, we experience great things and then one bad thing knocks us off and we are down in the valley of despair. We forget the years of fruitfulness. We forget God's goodness. So, don't let the one bad experience eat away the good. Focus on all that God has done... Press on...

The Longing of the LORD...

I didn't write any update yesterday... just the poem.

So yesterday... The day flew by. I had to go run early because of Mom care. I was still able to complete 12km IN THE HEAT! Today, I did not run until this evening. I had ran four days in a row, in the heat. That was enough for me!

Today was filled with running errands. We got the car insurance straightened out, upgraded our credit card so that Alan can have the lounge privileges, paid our credit card bill (it was a big one) and then mailed a letter off. We ran out of time to get Alan and Abby's International License. We will have to do that next week!

We took Mom with us in the car. That made it more difficult as parking was hard to find. We had lunch out at a nice restaurant!

This morning, Mom was complaining of leg pain... I guess that's a positive thing for these next 10 days. She can't get up that quickly...

Abby had tutoring at 5pm. I blogged and did a load of laundry!

Isaiah had his last term 2 exam...

Daily Lovely Insight:

The Lord longs to be gracious,

The Lord longs to be compassionate,

The Lord longs to be just,

The Lord longs to bless all those who long for Him.

Do you long for Him?

Do I long for Him?

I Daily Seek A Quiet Place...

I Daily Seek A Quiet Place...

by Lovely Ko-Alagata

I daily seek a quiet place, to ponder and to see, to grow in deeper awareness of the nearness of His peace.

I daily seek a quiet place, to sit beside His feet, to hear His tender whisper amidst the torrents of this earthly sea.

I daily seek a quiet place,  to rest and to believe, to understand the deeper truth that He has penned for me.

For it is in that quiet place, You set my eyes to see -- my heart is free.
For it is in that quiet place, You hold me close to Thee -- my life stands still.
For it is in that quiet place, You lift the veil for me -- I enter in. For all eternity!

Soft Lock Down! CRAZY!

I had a great Bible study... but during the study, a message popped up!

"When can you come to pick your Mom up?"

HUH???

To my horror, the day care center is going to close for the next 10 days. Why? With all the employees fully vaccinated... with all the elderly individuals having had two shots... What's going on?

I had to wait until I got home and found out that with one indirect contact, the Center has decided to go with the soft lock down that the government is instituting... on a voluntary basis! So, the Center, to be on the cautious side, decided to CLOSE FOR 10 DAYS! And maybe longer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the study I had asked Abby to lead the song, O Happy Day (aka: The Greatest Day). Here is the lyric:

The greatest day in history
Death is beaten, You have rescued me
Sing it out, Jesus is alive
The empty cross, the empty grave
Life eternal, You have won the day
Shout it out, Jesus is alive
He’s alive

Oh, happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh, happy day, happy day
I’ll never be the same
Forever I am changed

When I stand in that place
Free at last, meeting face to face
I am Yours, Jesus, You are mine
Endless joy, Perfect peace
Earthly pain finally will cease
Celebrate, Jesus is alive
He’s alive!

Oh, what a glorious day
What a glorious way
That You have saved me
And oh, what a glorious day
What a glorious way!

Jesus knew I need that song in my head to face the current situation. I have a lot to do in these next 10 days. What am I going to do about Mom care? I had to message people, cancelling my morning Bible study and trying to arrange for help when I need to go and tutor! Please pray!

After picking Mom up, I had to madly try to arrange care for the upcoming 10 days or MORE. The "MORE" is if one person from the Center tests positive, they will then start the count all over again. Another 10 days... if another person tests positive, add another 10 days. So, it can be for a month or more! This is going to motivate me to find long term care... and even a place that drugs her?!?!?!?!

Too Hot...

I was hoping to run in the evening, but could not fit it in. So, at 1pm, during the heat of the day, I went out! It was a difficult run! I trotted back... completing 11.79km. I was shooting for 12, but could not get those last 200 meters! Tutoring started at 3:30!

Bible study this evening!

Then talked to Isaiah. His term 2 exams started!

Alan was at school all day!

Abby didn't have class. She went to practice basketball and then tutored only for an hour as her evening student is being 'quarantined' for 'exposure' to someone who tested positive. The reaction these days is like a common cold, but the government is very severe with keeping things 'under control'. Junior and senior high schools have gone online in Taipei! It's crazy.

I didn't finish the prep for my Bible study at Soochow tomorrow!

Caught In A Sudden Down Pour! And I Wasn't Running...

Yes, if only I was on a run... that would have been splendid... But I was riding my scooter and running errands. One of the errands was to mail a few cards... they got wet!

I have three old cell phones. One -- the volume doesn't work. One -- the home button doesn't work. One -- the GB is too low (it has only 16). Plus, I found an iPad which I'm trying to break through the passcode. So, I brought everything to an Apple store. They laughed... The lowest that they'd do an exchange is iPhone 8. I said, "If I had an iPhone 8, I wouldn't want to trade it in!" Anyhow, the least expensive route was to fix the home button. They won't help me break the passcode. That's not allowed! What if I had stolen it? They wouldn't believe me when I told them that I found it in the recycling bin of our building! I was able to figure out how to get it through recovery mode but now it tells me that I have to get the original owner to delete the device from their iCloud before I can use it! I have no idea who was the original owner... Hum??? I am sure there must be another way to get this done!

I did go for a run in the morning and it was hot...

This evening I had tap dancing... I know the problem: my ankles have suffered from playing volleyball. They can't seem to relax... And that's the key to being an excellent tap dancer.

Restful Sabbath!

Alan had a tennis tournament... Abby slept in... her usual! I was up early... and busy with some general house cleaning!

Then after lunch, Mom listened to old songs and stayed seated! I took a nap!

Abby went to church early and Alan and I took Mom later on in the afternoon. The service and love feast were great!

We had Family Time this evening... Abby tutored on line before our Family Time.

Running Around Day!

The day started early as Alan had an all day debate tournament that was done online! He went to school for it.

I got up, had time with God and then went for a run.

Mom was up and after she had breakfast, we all went in the car to run errands.

I had frames to pick up, trolley to drop off, keys to make and drop off... The list was long!

We got back and had a late lunch. I hung our annual family portrait! It looks so nice!

Mom was in bed by 6pm as we had our Marriage Builders group at 7pm.

Abby and I drove in the car and picked up Alan at school. We had bought him dinner! And we already had all the dessert!

Returning the Costumes...

Yes, it was another rush, rush, rush day...

Mom was up at 10pm and talking non-stop last night. Abby and I were wondering what was going on. I then looked under the table and found a pill that she dropped! HORRID! So, I popped the pill into her mouth at 12midnight and she finally calmed down by 1am. Needless to say, I did not sleep much.

Mom was groggy this morning, but I got her up and showered and off to the day care center. And today was a load of laundry day! I cleaned her room and went for a run. By 12noon we were off to Yilan to return the costumes. I had bought coupons for lunch. We had a splendid lunch and then returned the costumes and drove back to Taipei. We had to make a stop at Costco. But they were out of the Kirkland milk... we had to get desserts, but they didn't even have cookies!

Before rushing home, we stopped at the post office and I dropped off the letters and then went to the convenience store and paid my scooter parking ticket. We were able to rush home just in time for Mom Care. I had her dinner ready and this time, when she took the pills, I stood next to her!

I put away the groceries while Mom ate her dinner. Then I went and made her bed while she used a toothpick floss for her teeth. After she went to bed, I tidied up the house. How did the day go by so quickly?

I found a new murder mystery set in 1895 in Toronto, Canada -- Murdoch Mysteries. So, I watched one episode! So fun!

Still No Time...

I did take a nap after lunch... but I am constantly rushing, rushing, rushing...

After Mom takes off, it's cleaning... some days I need to do a load, like today. While other days, I can skip that.

Alan was off to school and Abby took off, too. She didn't have class, but she was helping me to get keys from a friend. We are going to return the costumes tomorrow.

I went for a run at 1:30 and got back for a quick shower before tutoring at 3:30. When that was finished, I was off to the post office and pick up our enlargement! It turned out really nice! I got back just in time as Mom is always very on time! I had dinner ready! And she ate so fast!

While using one of the old frames I got from when I helped to clean a friend's office, I discovered a print from a Japanese artist. How astounding! I messaged my friend. She will find out if it's worth anything. I will get another frame from the box at the apartment. There are at least 25 more frames there. This one was an old antique that I liked. The ones in the box are all newer... But hey, frames are expensive these days. I enlarged our annual portrait -- 12x15. That size is about 1000NT$ for a frame. So, I will go over tomorrow and get one.

My online student wants to have two weeks of 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes. He says the time is never enough! What a compliment!

Daily Lovely Insight:

My Father God, help me to expect Thee on the ordinary road. I do not ask for sensational happenings. Commune with me through ordinary work and duty. Be my Companion when I take the common journey. Let the humble life be transfigured by Thy presence.

This is from Streams in the Desert... but the thought that is on my mind is that during these 40 days after the Resurrection, we need to expect Jesus to encounter us in the ordinary of our day. Like when the disciples were walking on the road to Emmaus, Jesus walked along side of them and opened their eyes to the word and to His presence. Jesus does commune with me through ordinary work and duty! Make it a prayer that the humble tasks of the day would be transfigured by His presence!

Truck Rental

What a super productive day!

Abby found a truck rental place and Alan and I went there! We rented a flat bed truck! Drove over and picked up the last few items and drove to our YWAM friends in Taoyuan and dropped everything off! It was so much fun! We couldn't hang out as we wanted to return the truck. We got back and it was a total of three hours -- less than 1,000NT$! We also put in 300NT$ of gas! But I am very tempted to do that again if I ever need to move things! I just need muscle and a driver... ha, ha, ha... I can become the junk mover queen!

So, I found out that another friend who is trying to clear out her house asked someone to come and estimate the cost of clearing and disposing everything. SHOCKING! 100,000NT$! Another friend posted that she has things to give away as the disposal estimate was much higher than what they had planned! I guess I can have a second career!

We got back and the weather was cool... so I took off for a short 10k run! I didn't have more time because Mom is always so on time!

Abby had gone to help babysit... She didn't have class, although she has reports to finish up! She is the master of procrastination! This evening, she went to meet up with friends for dinner.

Alan got an email... his flight from Taipei to London was CANCELLED! So, he spend the afternoon trying to see what can be done! They can cancel and do nothing to help you find another flight!

Mom Bea listed her house on Zillow... I think it's going to sell fast as the price is so reasonable!

And... I received a message from a friend... the box of winter coats to Mongolia is finally going to be out of customs! I can't tell you how many months the box has been sitting there! The pastor has finally been notified that he can now go and pick it up. The winter is already gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bureaucracy! But I am grateful... she will send me pictures when the coats are finally handed out to the needy of the church members. I won't tell you how much I paid for this 17kilo box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other good news: one student turned in her major research paper, another of my students finished all the necessary Individual Assessments for his diploma! What a month!

Cooler Tuesday!

I cooked this great soup in the electric pressure cooker: 8 potatoes, a whole container of mini tomatoes, yellow squash, carrots, one onion and a packet of vacuum beef chunk! Wow... delicious! That's what I served for lunch for our morning Bible study. It was perfect on a cold day. Definitely helpful to build up the immune system!

After the study, I cleaned up and went for a quick run. The weather was so perfect for a longer run, but no time!

I had tutoring at 2:45. I finished that early and rushed to the library before coming home. Mom was very on time. Thankfully, dinner was ready!

Tonight I didn't have my evening Bible study. I needed time to catch up on things.

Abby had tutoring at 5pm all the way until 9:30. Alan had class. Soochow is back to face to face! YIPPY! But since it is midterms, Abby won't need to go to school all week!

Trying to Take the Time to Rest!

Yes, I tried! I actually did take a nap! I could have slept for a long long time!

But I did a load of laundry, cleaned Mom's room, and put away things. Then I found a fan in the recycling area and worked on it!

I did go for a 10k run... I was hoping to go for a longer run, but I had to get back to fix Mom's dinner!

Tonight was my tap class...

In the morning I walked to the traditional market and got fruit. That's what Mom had for breakfast -- three bowls of fruit. She just kept eating! One bowl of guava. One bowl of grapes. One bowl of tomatoes. And she was still hungry. The bowl was not small!

So Much Done!

Amy, the helper, came. And together, we cleaned the house!

I did a load of laundry! We changed the sheets for Abby's and my Mom's bed. Then she did the bathrooms while I worked on the kitchen and keeping an eye on my mom. I organized the sheet and pillowcases. Fixed the closet doors. It was non-stop for four hours!

Alan was at the Easter Egg Hunt Church Event! Abby went to a coffee shop to get her work done!

When Alan came home, we went out and ran errands. Picked up diapers. Got our annual family portrait enlarged. Got things copied off for Alan as it's midterm week coming up! Then we had dinner at a noodle shop!

After Mom went to bed, I was going to visit a friend who was having heart trouble with numb fingers. She lined me and said her dad will be at the hospital with her, so I didn't need to come.

Fun Day Out!

I got Mom ready and off and then went back to sleep.

I was going to go for a run, but I was just so tired.

Alan and Abby came back from playing tennis.

And we went off to a new place for lunch. Delicious! Scrumptious!

Then we went to pick up hot cross buns and from there I ran home. What a great run! It was cooler and I love that kind of weather.

I got home just in time to take a quick shower, get Mom's dinner ready and Mom was back.

I cut her hair tonight. And after she went to bed, I rode over to Elaine's house and picked up more stuff. I was going to this afternoon, but we were running late.

What a fun day!

I felt so revived from going back to bed... I love the early morning hours with Jesus, but rarely have the time to just go back to bed. I get started with a chore and that leads to another chore and onward and forward.

Daily Lovely Insight:

For Good Friday, I felt this was a marvelous meditation!

J. I. Packer:

Though we negate secular humanist doctrine, we live by its value system and suffer its symptoms: Man-centeredness as a way of life, with God there to care for me; preoccupation with wealth, luxury, success, and lots of happy sex as means of my fulfillment; unconcern about self-denial, self-control, truthfulness, and modesty; high tolerance of moral lapses, with readiness to make excuses for ourselves and others in the name of charity; indifference to demands for personal and church discipline; prizing ability above character, and ducking out of personal responsibilities - is any of that Christian? The truth is that we have met the secular humanist enemy, and ethically, it is us. Shame on us? Yes, every time.

"Decadence a la Mode"

Christ came, died on the cross, and rose again so that we can shine as light in the midst of darkness.

It Poured!!!!!!!

This morning we woke up to the sound of pouring rain! How delightful!

I wanted to go out to run in the rain, but no can do!

First get Mom ready.

Do a load of laundry.

Finally at 10:30, I was out, but the rain stopped!

I spent the afternoon reading Isaiah's paper as that is due on April 19th. The grade for the class is completely dependent on the paper!

Alan had class all day and then in the afternoon, he and Abby went and played tennis.

After Mom went to bed, I took off to my friend's house to bring back the last of the items and for the movers to pick up things.

No Soochow Bible Study

With Soochow having classes online, we had to postpone the Bible study. I met with a gal to share and pray as she was struggling with a few burdens.

I then went and ran errands and dropped off the donation. Then I was back online to get all the insurance purchased. We have three scooters, and the houses and the car! I am trying to get all that done online!

Alan went to school to get a few things done and when he got back, I went out for a run. He helped to get Mom. I had dinner ready for her.

While Mom finished her dinner, I took a shower.

It was a rather relaxing evening! Very rare... no tutoring!

Yes, both the morning and the evening study were postponed! Having the time was a gift from God!

I had time for a nap! It was such a blissful experience! I put on an eye mask on and fell fast asleep!

A Hot Day! Oh... Happy Anniversary to US!

Alan and Abby were both home as school was online. Abby only had one class, so she spent most of her time watching Korean drama. We did go out for brunch... as it is our 35th anniversary. I almost forgot!

I cleaned up the house and sorted through things to donate. Yes, there is so much down at the recycling area as someone from this complex is moving.

Then I went out for a quick 9km run. That's all the time I had.

I went to meet Elaine at the house that I've been helping her to clean. She will see about getting the trash person to come and take out all the trash and then remodel a bit before it is cleaned.

I scootered back, but was late. Thankfully, Abby was home.

Mom had dinner.

After she went to bed, I rushed off to my tap dancing class... LATE!

It was such a busy day... I was hoping for time to rest... maybe tomorrow. That's what I say every day.

Things Being Picked Up!

Sometimes it's difficult to help others.

One person came promptly and picked up the items. Another person was a no-show. Then she arranged for me to come this evening at 8pm and again, no show! What a waste of time and gas. I told her that I'll be there tomorrow at 3pm. So show up or don't... it's up to her!
Church was fun... except Mom was being super hyper. What I mean is that she will clap loudly at random times, say she wants to go home in a very loud voice, ask questions also in a very loud voice. I had to take her to sit outside.

I did get to buy a few things at Carrefour and run a few errands. And yes, I had Mom up early before I went to meet up with people. Alan and Abby were home.
Abby had their first rehearsal... the 'play' is next week.

This evening we had Family Time. That's always fun!

Daily Lovely Insight:
The speaker spoke from Luke 15:11-32, the Prodigal Son. His topic was Kingdom Access.
Here are the 7 Highlights:
1. Don't hang out with the sine.
2. Do you know all that God has given you?
3. What sin did the "prodigal son" realize that he has committed upon coming to his senses? How does this relate to your life?
4. The Prodigal Son left the place of authority when he took his inheritance and went to a far country.
5. The Prodigal was yet a long way off and the Father saw him.
6. Psalm 23 says that God is our Shepherd and we shall have no want. The word "want" is also seen in verse 14, And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
7. Faith is to move forward beyond just believe.

A Day of Tutoring... Writing and More Writing!

I was out the door early... Three hours with my first student.

Came home and cooked! STEW! With my newly found electric pressure cooker. It is now my favorite style of cooking. So fast and so delicious!

I worked on getting Mom fed and entertained. Soon, my second student arrived. Another three hours of tutoring!

When he left, I got Mom ready for bed...

And then it was cool enough for a good run! My last run for this week. I did hit four times and 44kms.

Tomorrow... more people coming to my friend's house to move the last bit of furniture... and there is trash to dispose of... Wow... what a job!

This evening when Abby finished her tutoring we watched the animation movie, Encanto! We had watched CODA, which I highly recommend.

Overly Exhausted!

It was a fast pace day...

Mom went off to the Center and I got jamming... Doing a load of laundry, cleaning, sorting, going for a run...

Then we tried a new burger joint and dropped off the massager to get a battery changed. We also went to Costco and this time, we got ice cream!

We went home and I made the salad for our dinner engagement and we took off to select pictures.

We picked three. They will be ready by 4/18.

I then went to the friend's house to drop off things and set things up for people to be coming over on Sunday. I keep saying, but it's true. I AM ALMOST FINISHED!

I rushed back home for Mom duty. Got her to bed and we took off. Picked up Abby. Met people at the MRT station to give them things and we were at our friend's house at 7:30 after getting gas! I am glad we did!

Dinner was delicious. We then played mahjong until almost 12midnight. We got hoe at 12:25.

It's going to be an early morning for me as I have tutoring at 8:30 and tutoring at 3pm. Maybe I'll be able to fit in a run, depending on how Mom does!

Daily Lovely Insight:

I read this from a counselor who helps parents:

Discernment is not helping your children to choose right from wrong. Discernment is helping your children to choose right from almost right.

I need wisdom to choose. I'm glad God, the Father, is helping me each day to choose right from almost right. I don't want to be distracted with the good and miss the best!

Taking Time to Rest!

After getting Mom off, I was busy with cleaning her room. Then I sorted through all the donations and bags I brought back. I drove over and dropped everything off! Our car is back to 'normal'.

I even had time to go for a run... which was splendid, even though it was a bit warm.

I have a mouth sore that just won't go away. I think I need to rest more!

No tutoring tonight! I read Isaiah's paper and a story that another student sent me. And then prayed with a sister.

Alan and Abby had class online... and things are becoming covid 'tense'. We all hope that the government won't over-react and don't upgrade the situation. Then we're back to 'lockdown'!

After Alan finished his last class, he went and picked up the camera that we got fixed and played tennis. He usually has his Thursday night faculty and staff basketball, but not this week!

Celebrating Our Anniversary!

Yes, our anniversary is not until Monday, but since Alan had a day off and Abby was on her graduation trip and Mom was at the Center, we planned a day out.

First, buffet breakfast at the Lounge.

Then, picked up things from Elaine's house for donation. I was going to do that yesterday, but there were too many people around to pick up different furniture pieces. So, I didn't want to leave them upstairs. I'm glad I didn't as one guy took three items without asking me. I just let it go...

After that was loaded, we headed to a spa place up past Yang Ming Mountain. The weather was so different up there. Cooler and in came the clouds and the fog. It was so nice!

We came down by 4:30 as we had Mom duty. The traffic is unpredictable. We got back just in time!

Tonight I had tutoring... Abby came back from her trip.

The school will go online for the rest of this week. So, no one was in a hurry to get to bed.

Daily Lovely Insight:

Driving through that dense fog was an adventure. We couldn't see three feet ahead. Sometimes life is like that. You can't see more than the next step and it's hard to keep moving! But even when the road ahead looks clear, I am reminded that life is about a walk of trust. Don't run ahead just because there is no dense fog. And don't just park yourself on the side when there is. God wants me to keep moving... KNOWING that He is in charge!
