On the Bus with Mom

Saturday is my mom's acupressure day... I took her today on the bus! With a wheelchair!

First, we walked down to the bus stop... and the bus driver was extremely patient!

The pressure point massage was absolutely fabulous!

We then headed out -- on the bus -- to the Presidential Hall. Unfortunately, we arrived after 11:30 or else we could have gotten in for a tour... it's like going in to see the White House. When Suz and Pam and et el come to Taiwan, we must do that together!

Well... my mom enjoyed the bus ride... she was like a kid in a candy shop... she loved looking out the windows and seeing people get on and off!

After these past two weeks of having my mom here, I am totally impressed with Taiwan's public transportation system. Unlike the States, buses come every two to five minutes. You can get almost everywhere on the bus.  They are clean and fully air conditioned. For my mom, all public transportation is free! And once we get the handicapped booklet, I can ride for free as well! YIPPY! Most people are very helpful... as are the bus drivers. They see me with the wheelchair and they will help my mom on and off the bus. The drivers will make sure my mom is seated before they pull away from the curb. Even when it's crowded, someone will get up to give my mom a seat.

This evening, we had dinner with my brother, James. It was a high end Chinese restaurant. The food was tasty, but I think they put a lot of MSG as I was extremely thirsty after dinner. We also went to see James' hotel room... It was 'interesting'... I don't think he will stay there again! If you want more details, you can email me!

Good Friday!

Alan and I had an hour as our date today... What a Good Friday!

This evening, I made reservation for a great restaurant -- Mega Bistro!

The weather was so nice... Alan wheeled my mom around the park while I went for a run! It was hot once I started running... But it sure felt great to be out there. I need to start back... I don't know how to fit it in... But it sure would be nice!

I'm heading off to bed... Mom is in bed... Tomorrow is a work day... Only Abby has to go to school.

James Is Here!

Yes, it's true... James is here for a short visit!

We had dinner together at Wendel's, a German restaurant! We didn't order too much food as I'm trying to keep mom on a diet!

James will be here until Tuesday!

It's so great as this is the Resurrection Weekend... so I pray that James will join us for our Sunday service! That would be a first!

Mom's Nap and Abby's Results!

Having mom here, I've been able to attend a lot of elderly events...

And I have discovered that for Mom... it's not the exercise that tires her out... BUT... the conversation!

So... today, after just two hours of conversation, I went to pick her up and she was tired!

We came back, and she really took a nap!

Of course, I did too... Oh... I could have slept for the whole afternoon.

We had planned to go to another exercise class, but she stayed home... We went to a short walk and she went through her afternoon routines and asked to watch Little House!

I headed out to tutor... and when I came home, I took her out for another short walk around our neighborhood.

She likes Taiwan because there is a lot more going on... all the time!

I still need to take her on the bus... especially since I have a free travel card for her!

My older brother will be coming tomorrow night... How fun!

On another note... Abby found out the 'results'... She got called back to five out of six schools, which is really positive. BUT she didn't get called back to her first choice -- Normal University, Asian Studies. Her total test score was three points short. The lowest that got in was 57 and her test score was 54! I know God has a wonderful plan for her. If you were to ask me what I would like... My answer is: I would love for her to be studying at Soochow University, Social Work Department! She gets to live at home and apply for a full scholarship to cover her tuition, just like Isaiah! Now she will be sending in the 'packet' and in April, she will go for the interview.

Bible Study and Elderly Worship Service

I started my Bible study this morning... and Mom went to the elderly worship service...

When I took her there, I didn't know if she'd enjoy it as it's in the sanctuary with a large group of people... maybe 100 people.

I stayed with her for about 15 minutes and introduced her to a few ladies...

When I went back to pick her up, she said she had a great time. The ladies were so helpful and she was extremely happy! She talked about what they did for three hours...

Wow...

In the afternoon, I took her for a walk. She did very well...

And the most amazing thing is that God has been giving us the best weather... Only God can do the impossible!

Stretching and Praising

I'm learning a lot while attending all these different classes with my mom!

These activities are all so very encouraging. I thought my sister should come over to join us... I think her hips and knees would feel better after a month!

This evening we had a dear friend come over for dinner with her whole family! What fun!

I am hoping to have a chance to go for a run this week... HOPING!!!!

Another Two Service Sunday!

Yes, Mom woke up EARLY... and asked if she can 'go out'. I said NO... please go back to sleep. It's still too early to "go out". She had changed her clothes already... but she obediently went back to bed until 8am!

Alan, Abby and Mom went cruising around as Abby needed to visit several college campus and take pictures. I headed to the New Beitou Baptist Church to speak.

Isaiah was at the tennis tournament and they didn't get into the top 6... bummer!

By 2:30 we were out the door again!

We had a great crowd, including a long time friend, Ruby Lem, who came all the way from Los Angeles! She, her husband, her mom and her three kids... what a joy to see them!

Mom enjoyed the service... She kept saying, "Your church people are so nice!"

We ate dinner at church and got home by 8pm.

Mom went to be by 9pm and I'm going to go to bed as early as possible!

It's going to be another long day tomorrow!

Another Fast Paced Day

While I tutored, Alan dropped Mom off to get her 2-hour massage, which she absolutely LOVES! Alan took her on his scooter. We used a jump rope to 'tie her' to Alan so that she didn't fall off! How hilarious!

Then I picked her up... and headed out again to see Isaiah's tennis competition!

After the competition, we went out to Ponderosa, like Bonanza... We love this restaurant as it has an all you can eat buffet with your entree! Mom was quite good- she had a little of everything!

We didn't get home until 9pm and she was in bed by 9:45!

What a day!

Not Our Usual Date!

Yes, with Mom here, Alan and I will not be able to have our usual Friday 'Date'... at least not for a little while.

I took Mom to the Praise Dance class. She did quite well... but sat down for the last 10 minutes. Then off to the Singing Class, which she enjoyed tremendously! She also liked the lunch that was served. While she was at the Singing Class, I got a UBike and rode over to the hospital to pick up the eye drops and meet the social worker. After that, we headed home!

Alan and I took her over to SooChow University and drove around a bit...

This evening we went to look at our annual family portraits... they all came out so great. It was difficult just to pick three... so we finally settled for FOUR! -- TWO family portraits!

Mom was tired when we came back... I told her to sleep in... but I don't think so... I think she'll be up at the crack of dawn!
