Cleaning Day!

I would have liked to rest today... but we woke up to some very 'delightful' smell... The kids, Alan and I all knew...

So, the day was spent cleaning... two loads of laundry as everything was stripped again! And steam cleaned the floor, wiped everything down, disinfected and sprayed!

I did sit down and worked a bit on my next talk for HOP. I am researching Psalm 63! O God, You are my God... that's how it starts and I really used it to cry out to God...

I did have a run at 4:15... I didn't go long... but it was invigorating as the rain was so refreshing. I was completely soaked.

In the morning, Isaiah's scooter didn't start, so he rode my scooter to work. Alan kick-started it and I took it down. The starter was whacky because of the rain. The guy fixed it for free. So, on the way back from my run, I picked it up!

Abby and Alan had classes at home.

I made meatballs to go with the risotto rice. This evening, I also made Chinese tang-yuan! Delicious!

Mom was better as she was not asking to go to the bathroom every five minutes, like she was doing for the past two days! I guess I should weigh her again after today! I will do that tomorrow morning!

Another Online Service!

The rain came... And it was nice and strong...

Abby and I went for a walk... it was nice... We didn't find anything on the Manager's Special racks, but the walk was great. I'm still trying to reach 12,000 steps.

Today the streets were really empty because the government was running a simulation of what Level 4 would be like! We are praying that we won't go there...

Today, the service was at our house... You can get on YouTube and search for House of Praise. I shared from Psalm 37!

We had another busy day. Mom wanted to go to the bathroom every five minutes. We all were getting a bit impatient, especially me, because I have to do the cleaning up!

First of all, people only remember Psalm 37:1-6 and forget that this psalm actually is quite long. So, I thought you might be interesting in reading the last verse of Psalm 37!

A Relaxing Day...

We got a little bit of rain...

And Isaiah and I got to talk to one homestay "aunty". It's about a 30 minute bike ride from U of Warwick. 600pounds a month, including breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and he can do his laundry. No bathroom in the room, but all blankets and pillows and towels will be included. We are praying. It might be a perfect option!

I went for a run this afternoon when it was sprinkling. So nice! Even though I only ran five times this week I was able to go a little over 48kilometers! YIPPY!

Mom was a bit more active today... but we didn't go out as it was a bit wet outside. I didn't want to push the wheelchair on that wet ground!

Tonight we had a Skype Marriage Builders Session! It was only an hour but so nice to meet up on line and pray together!

Another Sizzling Hot Day!

Alan and I had kind of a date!

We went and bought lunch at a buffet place and brought it home to eat.

Then we went to Costco. He went in while I waited outside!

I wanted to take a nap but I had things to give away and I found a free duvet cover and pillowcases and went to pick them up. I also found a new Ergo suitcase. Alan brought it over to his office as we don't have any storage space at home. It's kind of heavy and I didn't want it. But Abby said she wanted it...

In the evening when it finally cooled down, I went for a run! My tummy wasn't feeling too well... I think it's the heat. I didn't feel like eating as my stomach was gurgling! I'm staying hydrated!

We had Family Time this evening!

A Record High for May!

By 10am, we all knew it was going to be sizzling...

We stayed indoors... The kids and Alan had their online classes...

Mom was up and after her shower, she ate and went back to rest! That's the usual these past few days... In the afternoon, she watches Little House. With the heat, I didn't take her outside for her usual walk. At night she still bangs, not as often, but we can still hear her. I am thinking of redoing the bunk beds so that she can't bang on the upper bunk or the wall. I'm thinking of putting the mattress from the top bun against the wall. I might have time to work on it tomorrow.

I had tutoring from 4-7:30! School will be finished, so I might not be tutoring for three weeks, which is perfect for me as I am looking forward to the break! Alan served Mom her dinner!

I made mini-cheeseburgers!

In the evening, we all did for our 'workout'. Alan and I went for a run. Abby rode the bike! Isaiah did weights inside the house. Even at 8:30, it was still hot!

I read this verse this morning and prayed it for both Isaiah and Abby. Give unto Isaiah my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things... Give unto Abby my daughter a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things...

That's my greatest hope for my kids... that they would have a perfect heart to follow after God!

Quite A Lot Happening Here...

Because of online learning, Alan made a wonderful rule: two hours electronic fast a day! This must be consecutive two hours and sleeping does not count as a fast! It has been so good for us as a family! In those two hours, we are encouraged to spend time with God, exercise, do housework or read a book. In light of Level 3 being extended, I think more families should do this.

We started with online counseling... then I had my last Soochow Bible study, via a zoom meeting. Then I had two hours of tutoring. I had fixed Mom's food... and she was sitting in the living room. Alan noticed that she is becoming more like "Daddy George", which means 'easier to take care of' as she is not hyper!

This evening I met up with my tap dancing teacher as he ordered real honey and some of us bought a gallon jug from him. I also took the time to go and buy a few other items.

In the news, an increase in confirmed cases... one student from the downtown campus was a confirmed case, one worker at the Jiannanroad MRT station was a confirmed case! All these contracted Covid from being in the Wanhua area! And the Wanhua area had a huge outbreak because of the pilot at the 'tea parlor'. Absolutely terrible!

As for the weather, it was forecast to rain, but it never did! Bummer... In the evening, I went for a quick run!

Daily Lovely Insight:

We had our final study for this semester and looked at Daniel, examining the topic: living above our circumstances. It was a perfect study for such a time as this. Because of Daniel's trust in God, he was able to remain calm and pray as he had always done, even though he knew about the edict signed by the king. Daniel served the King of kings! Sometimes, the LORD works, not in ways we expect, nor according to our timing. But the result is that King Darius wrote a letter to all nations and race and language, calling everyone to respect Daniel's God, the living God, the powerful God, the God who saves and rescues!

Cooler At Night... Cooler This Morning!

After time with Jesus, I noticed that it was nice and cool outside. So, I went off and had a fast run... It was cooler!

I came home and got Mom up and showered and she ate breakfast. She has not been very active these days. I think you are praying for me. She is a lot more manageable as she's not walking around and asking me to take her out.

In the afternoon, we heard the news -- Level 3 rules and regulations will be extended to June 14th. That means Mom won't have her program for another three weeks! And of course, we won't be going out to eat for Isaiah's graduation.

I worked on my talk notes for May 30th and June 13th. Because with the announcement, we will definitely have online church on June 6th and the 13th. We might be online for the whole month of June. We will wait and see.

I forced Mom to go out for a walk and then she watched Little House. After dinner, she went to bed!

I had my Bible study this evening on line! And I think my morning study will have to go online as well!

One of my students contacted me and we will have class tomorrow afternoon -- ONLINE!

It's easy in the dailiness of life to buy into the madness of the world. It's in the quiet, as we meet with the Gardener, that He pulls the brambles off our brains. Read that this morning and thought I'd share it with you... It struck a cord in me! I don't ever want the madness of the world to entangle or entrap me... How about you?

Fun Run in the Down Pour

It was another stay put day...

I did go get some veggies... and made lots of yummy stuff... sweet red bean soup, tuna cheese melt sandwiches, a big salad with apple and guava slices... Our fridge is nicely packed.

Isaiah went to work... but next week, he will have one day at the office and two days work from home! YEP! It doesn't look like we're going to move back to level 2... at least not next week!

It did rain and we sure do need it. So, as soon as it started, I went out. Mom was in bed, resting! She didn't want to go out for a walk when it was still sunny. Of course, .

Oh... big news: my nephew, Will, Annie and KR's oldest son, got married yesterday to Diamond! I viewed the service via a FB video! Only eight people were allowed to be inside the church and the reception was at Annie and KR's house! And that only had 24 people! Diamond's family made the food... it was all her favorite dishes! I only got to see the pictures.

I also received the invitation for Aaron's wedding on June 19th. Aaron is Judy and Jon Brantingham's oldest son!

Of course, you remember Hailey, Pam's daughter, got married. Both of Suz's daughters were married last year!

I wonder who else will be getting married this year!

Another Great Service!

It was a hot day... and no rain!

The service was again at our house! Abby led the worship and I translated for the speaker! It was another great service. The topic was: An Invitation to Happiness!

We turned on the AC and Mom was like feeling too cold. But she decided to go and nap! She's been napping a bit more these days.

In the morning, I did go for a walk... And this evening, Alan drove to drop off someone and I went with him. I picked up some fruit and veggies on the way back home!

No One Outside!

People here are very vigilant... When the government says DO NOT GO OUT UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY... People all obey...

Alan and Abby went to Costco and it was 'like the States', meaning it was empty!

I again went for a run and everyone had their mask on!

When we drive, the rule is "wear a mask if more than one person in the car". We see drivers all have a mask on, even if there is no one else in the car!

I took Mom out for a quick walk and there was no one out!

Isaiah went out to visit with Vikki's family. Yes, he must ride with a mask on!

The numbers are still 'high'... but I think it's going to go down and things will open up again! Please pray!

No Date... Fridge Light Fixed...

The daily confirmed cases are still in the 250-400 range... so things are still tightly supervised. I had to run with my face mask fully on... Can't even hold it. Alan was running this morning and had a patrol guy telling him to pull up his mask! Abby was doing basketball drills by herself and saw the patrol guy. So ridiculous. He was telling them to get off the court! They were social distancing and just doing drills.

At 2pm, the repair guy came and fixed the light... it was impossible to remove the light bulb as the light cover had melted slightly... No wonder! Anyhow, it was worth the 800NT$ to get the bulb. Next time I can buy a bulb for 50NT$ and change it myself!

Isaiah went to work and Abby had an online meeting since she could not go and do her internship!

It was another hot day and the rain didn't come while I went out running. It was only slightly overcast with a bit of a breeze!

So, we are not to go out unless absolutely necessary. Alan was getting stir crazy, so I sent him out to Carrefour. He was so happy! He wanted to go to Costco just to get out... I don't want to take my mom out... While he was out, the rain started... he was stuck as he didn't bring his raincoat... It's so good to have the rain!

A Better Day...

I was up early... And after time with Jesus, I went out for a run... but within half an hour, it got HOT! I got back, fully drenched in sweat!

Everyone was getting on line... And I started working on my talk. Mom was still asleep... she was up earlier, but went back to bed. I was so grateful!

I had a phone meeting at 11:30 and then had to drop things off for a pick up at 12:30. I gave away several things on the group, Buy Nothing Taipei! I keep cleaning and giving things away!

Mom had her lunch and went back to sleep... then came out and went back and came out and went back... that was her routine the whole afternoon! And yes, we supervised every bathroom break. I was going to give her a haircut... but maybe tomorrow.

If you've read the news, you know that we had another 295 confirmed cases.

I made chicken soup with the bone we had... and threw in some veggies. YUMMY!

It was a good day as I didn't have a load of laundry to do!

Thunder Showers... Finally!

I had to do two loads of laundry today... A bit busy... Mom's hygiene habits were a bit overwhelming... Thankfully, she slept early...

I did go for a run in the thunder shower... thrilling! Alan told me just to go... As there were still more to do!

I think we will be doing on line service for a while, so Alan has lined me up to share on May 30th. I will talk on Psalm 37. Please pray as I prepare! I will use my evenings when Mom is in bed... I should be able to get at least two hours of concentrated time. The massage place called... Can't do massage for Mom... at least for two weeks. So... we are really stuck at home!

I had planned to meet someone for lunch tomorrow, but we will meet online!

There was another increase of over 200 confirmed cases...

Isaiah went to work... Abby and Alan had classes on line!

Daily Lovely Insight:

This psalm starts with good advice, especially for a time like this: Do Not Fret! It can mean, do not get heated up or do not get all worked up... Do not be anxious... So, it was good advice for me especially with the day I had... Thank you, God. He knew!

Alan found out that school has extended online learning for the rest of the semester. They are not going back into the classroom... So... now I'm wondering about my Mom...

Thank you Jesus!

Everyone Is Online!

Alan decided to have his classes online at home, instead of going to school. Abby and Isaiah were both here as well... That was quite nice.

I went for a run while Mom went back to bed after breakfast!

I was going to give her a haircut and another shower, but...

We watched TV... I enjoy Ms. Marple... Mom didn't...

In the afternoon, the thunder showers started, so I couldn't take my mom for a walk! But it sure cooled the temperature down a few degrees.

Bad news: Another 245 confirmed cases! I think we will continue on Level 3!

Alan is trying to figure out what we will do for HOP for May and June... He invited me to share... So, I've started looking at "My Favorite Psalm"... And of course, that's too difficult to just pick one, so I decided to make it a 'mini-series'. Pick one from 1-50, another from 51-100, and one more from 101-150. I know people love Psalm 23, but I'm actually going to choose Psalm 37! Now... it's not easy to pick two more... Any suggestions?

If I get to share more, I would go for two more topics: My Favorite Major Prophet and My Favorite Minor Prophet. Any other suggestions? I hope you can tell that I love sharing from the word of God!

Daily Lovely Insight:

Do I like running? Some people think I love it... because I do it almost every day... But the truth is: I love being alone! It's the solitude that I enjoy... Not many people see me as a person who loves solitude, but actually, I love being alone with a good book and a good cup of coffee! I like watching TV or hanging out with friends... but honestly, sometimes, I love long runs for the solitude it provides. Like today, while Mom was napping, I was able to get on the computer and read commentaries about the book of Psalms. I love that... And Matthew Henry is incredible... He wrote 22 pages just on Psalm 37. I learned so much. According to Henry, it is a psalm of instruction, talking about a very difficult issue -- why do we fret when we see the wicked prosper? Let me just share one verse: Psalm 37:27

Frank Almonte Minis. on Twitter: "Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. Psalm 37:27 #FrankAlmonte #pray #prayer #Paz… "

I am still meditating on this psalm. I hope I will have the time in these next two weeks to finish the message! Alan is setting me to share on May 30th.

A Long Day... A Hot Day...

Taiwan is up to Level 3 and now itching towards Level 4. More confirmed cases...

Mom was home and I tried to keep her entertained and fed... She talked to Annie... She took two walks... She watched In Touch! She watched Murder She Wrote... And yes, she enjoyed her meals... I asked the Center if they could send meals... but they can't. They will call tomorrow and see if they can assist by sending someone to our house to help out... but only two hours a day! I wanted to ask if they could come for a four hour block, maybe twice or three times a week! I have already cancelled all my tutoring so that I can be home... I will also have to go and buy more food... I will get Mom to have her massage... why not?

Isaiah had work today, but Abby was home. Alan went to school to figure out how to do online classes.

It was a hot day... so after Mom went to bed, I finally had some free time to go for a run. It was still hot, but at least I wasn't running under that blaring sun. I will cut Mom's hair tomorrow!

Daily Lovely Insight:

I can see how people can go crazy with being stuck inside when there is a lockdown! It's only the first day and I was like... Wow... it's going to be two weeks... and maybe even longer! And sure enough, someone sent a message saying that there were another 335 confirmed cases. Schools are now cancelled for Taipei and New Taipei... and they've closed the 'border' so no one can transit in Taiwan. I'm so glad that my peace is not dependent on the circumstances around me.

Up to Level 3!

More bad news...

We found out that Taipei and New Taipei have been upgraded to Level 3... This morning, the news reported 180 new cases yesterday, so the government met and decided... No program for MOM for two weeks. I scrambled and cancelled all my tutoring and meetings for the next two weeks. I can't believe it... Unless it's on line... I have two who are on line... the rest is all face to face... Everyone I messaged totally understood the situation. They were all very gracious!  Now, what is Mom going to do everyday!?!?!?! Plus it is hot... We don't have the AC on! And she doesn't like the fan blowing... We are in trouble!

In other news...

Alan and Isaiah did go and play tennis...

Mom talked to James and Eddie today!

Abby had her tutoring session this afternoon

Mom and Isaiah went for their two hour massage.

I met with a friend as she wanted to introduce me to her boyfriend.

The shelves at Costco were cleaned out in five hours... People were hoarding, preparing and stocking up for two weeks of 'lockdown'... I will have to go buy some items at Carrefour!

Daily Lovely Insight:

In the midst of the turmoil, my life is at peace, because my God is Shalom! I'm not sure what these next two weeks are going to be like... And I surely don't know what's ahead for this summer... I choose to set my eyes on Jesus... And because He knows, I can choose to rejoice!

Fun Day Out With Alan!

First, the bad news: Soochow is going to put classes online for the next two weeks. Alan was scrambling to get everything ready for Monday. And it's tough because he has speech class and they were supposed to be doing their speeches! And you canNOT do that on line as you need an audience! So, we are not sure what will happen. This will also influence Isaiah's final exams... School will be closed until 5/30 and final's week is May 24-28! We are also waiting for any news about his graduation ceremony! On Monday, all three of them will be home, with their computer... and 'having class'! We were praying that this wouldn't happen, but because of Soochow has the downtown campus, and that's where the outbreak is, they had to close both campuses! 600,000 people in the Wanhwa area was alerted via their cell phone because that pilot was at a 'tea parlor' in the area! Hoping Hospital is right near the Downtown Campus. So when CDC announced the outbreak in that area, Soochow had to respond by closing both campuses. So far, Taiwan had an increase of 25 cases today!

Other than that, Alan and I had a wonderful date... We rode to a new restaurant and enjoyed a fabulous lunch. We then rode around the area as we haven't been to this part of the town... at least for a long time. We were thinking about going up the mountain, but it was too hot.

Abby didn't have internship because of Covid-19. She won't be going for the next two Fridays. She went and got her hair done. Gorgeous!

Tonight we had Family Time!

Finished the BIG Speech!

What a day...

I went for a run and spent the rest of the morning practicing for the speech.

I am glad that's over with... Praise the LORD. I just wanted to honor God!

When I got home, I plugged in the WiFi and then heard everything becoming quiet.

The electricity was cut... I couldn't do my 4-5 tutoring session! It was totally weird... and hot... No fan... No computer... NOTHING!

At 5pm, the electricity went back on... I checked the news... Taipower cut electricity ISLAND WIDE! What? First the drought... then the spike in Covid cases... now, rotation of shutting down the electricity? It's been so hot that there has been overuse of electricity. So, every 'area' will have one hour of NO ELECTRICITY! Our generator went on, so the food in the fridge was ok!

Mom was back and enjoyed her meal.

After she went to bed, I went out to tutor! Crazy!

On the way back, I stopped to buy soy bean milk and more romaine lettuce!

It was good to be back home at the end of the evening!

Hot, Hot, Hot... And Bible Study at Soochow!

This morning, I gave Mom a shower... I'm just glad she doesn't argue anymore... We have to give her two showers a day... And that also means a lot of laundry... Oh well...

After she left, I got sorting through all the paperwork. It felt so good to have the folders neatly organized.

Then I made chicken patties for Alan's lunch and Mom's dinner! We have salad stuff in the fridge, which is perfect for such a hot day.

I didn't want to, but I knew I would have no other time... So out I went for a run in the sizzling hot sun! I survived... I just made it a goal to keep running, no matter how slow I was going. I average 7:16/kilometer. That's very slow!

I showered and was out the door for my afternoon Bible study.

It was another great time: Living beyond your failures...

In the news, Taiwan had 21 new cases and the government is meeting to decide what measures to take. Please pray that they do not go for total lock down. These people are hyper sensitive! This would be detrimental... They are already talking about raising it to level 3, which means church will not meet on Sunday. I will keep you posted.

Daily Lovely Insight:

A convicted heart bring a repentant heart... and it starts with facing the truth of our actions. Admit it when we have sinned... Just come honestly to God, who knows already, and cry out for His mercy. He is so ready and willing to forgive. To deny that we have not sinned... To avoid facing the truth when the light shines upon our heart... those actions will only distance us more from our loving God.

Light of the world, shine on me... Love is the answer... Those are lyrics from a secular song by England Dan and John Ford Coley... But I'd change them to Light of the LORD, shine on me, Love is the answer... Just one word, but makes a lot of difference!

The Voice of God... Through His Word!

We had a great study... And great food... And great fellowship...

We finished at 1pm and I came home, put everything away, and dashed out again. I went to pick up free stationery goods and then tutored.

I was going to go run when I got home, but it was so hot plus I had to get things ready for Mom and clean up the stairway area... The fire department is coming this week!

I had to do another load of laundry... Mom's stuff... And Mom was back soon after... I never know how the day goes by so fast!

Isaiah was back from work... Abby was home, too... Alan came home after his evening class...

Praying Psalm 6 | Upward Ever...

I've posted this verse just a couple of days ago... do you remember? With the rise in Covid cases here in Taiwan, CDC has announced stringent rules and Taiwan is up from green to amber... I am trusting that the LORD has heard and receive my prayers. Please pray with me... It will affect Isaiah's trip in September if things don't get under control here! Vaccination has started... only AZ... Moderna might be coming in July.

We studied about the powerful, majestic, force of God's voice. We prayed that God would speak calm in the hearts of many here in Taiwan.

Another Productive Monday!

The morning started with getting Mom ready and cooking... Put rice and veggies in the rice cooker and chicken in the air fryer! Everything was ready by 10am!

I went out for a run and it was already hot!

Then after a shower, I was out the door getting the muscle massager fixed. I had the address wrong and finally found the place. Talked with the owner/distributor for quite a long time. And paid 30US$ and got a replacement part. He also gave me a new case! I went to the copier and made copies of worksheet for tutoring!

I was home by 3:30! Yippy! And ate a spinach salad for lunch! YUMMY!

I looked at my messages and one of my students needed tutoring. I had to do that on line! We started the session after I got my mom settled!

Alan and Abby were home... Then Abby went after I left for tap dancing as she had to tutor tonight. Isaiah also had his usual Monday evening tutoring!

I had tap dancing this evening... One of the tap dancing students had to bail as he has now been assigned overseas. It was a fun evening! We were reviewing all the basics. I needed the review!

Daily Devotion — Psalm 73:28 — God's Presence Is My Good | by Devotable | Medium

Did you catch that? I've read Psalm 73 many times as I read through the Bible once a year, but somehow, this phrase jumped out at me today. The nearness of God is my good... God's presence... God is good... and because He is with me... all is well... it is good... I am good... Praise the LORD!

Happy Mother's Day!

What to Write in a Mother's Day Card 2021 — 52 Mother's Day Sayings

I had a great day! The kids made cards for me...

I didn't have to translate! But I had housework to do...

The worship was great!

Mom enjoyed the service. We gave out the coupons. All the Mom seemed to love the hair wash/scalp treatment.

I didn't run, but went for a walk in the evening.

We are no longer going to eat at church because of Covid. So, we brought our dinner home!

Saturday, May 8th!

Last night, after Mom went to bed, Alan and I had a quiet evening and finally had time to sit down to read our Devotional Books... Then he watched a movie, while I got started with more talk prep as well as proofreading the dissertation! And yes, I totally forgot to hit "Publish" for the blog I had started!

Today has been quite a nice overcast day!

After time with Jesus, I went out for a quick run as I had to go to Carrefour and PXMart -- AGAIN, as I wanted to buy a taro cake for Vikki's Mom (Vikki is Isaiah's girlfriend! We happen to have the same birthday, and like the same kind of dessert!) So, without even hopping into the shower, I dashed off. Isaiah was planning to leave at 10am to meet up with her. I got back and they decided to meet up at 11am. I could have gone for a longer run!

Abby had taken off to serve at the children's ministry and then had tutoring.

Alan had gone to play tennis,

Mom had her shower and breakfast and went back to rest! I didn't want to give her Little House until after lunch time.

I did yet another load of laundry and had to clean the outside staircase... The fire department will be coming next week for a 'random' check and we can't have things out there. I have been potting plants from our old house and haven't brought the plants back yet. The friends living there are staying only until the end of July, so I don't want to leave any plants there until we have a permanent tenant there. I might have to put my plants down on the first floor for next week!

Alan left with Mom for their two hour massage! Luxurious!

I was going to go biking with Abby, but with the clouds in the skies, we decided not to! Plus, she was feeling tired!

Abby bought me my favorite stinky tofu as a Mother's Day gift... and both kids are busy trying to make another card!

Daily Lovely Insight:

G. K. Chesterton wrote: Humility has been placed in the wrong place. Modesty has settled upon the organ of conviction. Instead of being humble about asserting oneself, people have placed it upon doubting truth.

I thought that was very insightful! Here is his exact quote:
