The Long Run/Walk

The weather was perfect today. And since I had no appointment until tutoring at 5:30, I decided to do it! Go for that LONG run/walk!

Starting off at 11:30, I came home at 4pm! Yes, it's true, I was out there for four and a half hours! I covered 35 kms, exactly half of the run on 12/10! I came back totally exhausted and sore! And I have no idea how I am going to finish the 70kms without someone rolling me off on a gurney! I'm still going to do it. I'm not going to give up.

I did find that a good breakfast helped tremendously as I didn't feel a bit hungry even though I brought a few snacks with me just in case. I also found out that being hydrated is very important. I didn't bring enough water and had to buy from the vending machines. I followed their tip and walked whenever there was a hill. Otherwise, I ran slowly, pacing myself the whole way. And was I ever so glad to get back and hop into the shower!

Tomorrow... a long walk!

Ultra Training Schedule

I decided to check the internet to see what ideas do ultra trainers offer.

After reading a few articles, I'm not sure how I feel.

On the one hand, it was good to find out that the best way to train is just to go out there and stay on your feet for a few longer sessions so that your body (feet) gets used to the distance (and the length of time)! But then, according to the schedule, I should have done that three to four weeks ago, working in a 4 hour run/walk followed by another 5 hour run/walk! I have the run two weeks from this Saturday, meaning I'm quite behind!

As for nutrition, that was also interesting. One suggestion was something I experienced when I ran for fun the distance of 73km. Before that run, I never thought about eating or drinking anything with caffeine for the last 20 kilometers. But that's what several articles suggested. And it really did help. At those last few stations, they were serving coca cola! And I drank several cups of it! It was immensely refreshing and helpful!

So, I hope to work in one longer session this week...

If you read this and think of it, please be praying for me on 12/10!

Abby's 17th Birthday!

We had a tremendous weekend and the celebration just keeps on going!

I started the morning very early with helping out a friend who was moving back to Thailand. So, I didn't have time to make pancakes for Abby. I will do that tomorrow.

I had a car load of stuff, mostly kitchen spices, which I hope to give away as my entire kitchen counter is filled with jars and bottles. I have no idea what most of the items are as the labels are all in Thai.

The rest of the day was spent catching up. I had to make a trip to Costco and spent quite a bit of the day cooking! But I didn't have the time to bake! I will have to do that tomorrow.

In fact, there will be lots of things that I will have to do tomorrow, including finish the test and my message for Sunday and the ppt file.

This evening after Isaiah got back from cram school, we had a celebration and prayer time for Abby, my sweet sweet daughter! She's 17!

Not Enough Food

Image result for Psalm 28: 7
I couldn't believe it.

I didn't make enough food!

And while using the crock pots and rice cookers, I took out the church breakers. So, we had to reset the main switch!

I couldn't believe!

I will have to plan another way for the Christmas meal!

I already have the menu planned... but I will have to double the amount!

People loved, loved, loved the meal tonight!

Turkey, pumpkin pies (with whipped cream), mixed veggies, creamy pumpkin soup, mashed potatoes, corn portage rice, baked yam with marshmallows, salad as well as drinks and snacks! Some of the items were bought and two sisters made two of the items listed. The rest I made!

Christmas menu: duck & chicken, stuffing, salad, baked yam with marshmallows, pumpkin pies, creamy vegetable soup, stir fried cabbage, corn, tomato rice and drinks and snacks, of course!

Big Spending Day

I am not a spender, but today was an unusual day. To celebrate the kids' birthday, I usually arrange a fun weekend trip. But with the kids in high school, we have not been able to do that. We'd go somewhere to have a meal and find a place to hang out and then shop for shoes. And that's what we did today!

I reserved afternoon tea at a high end buffet restaurant. 100US$ later, we came out happily stuffed!

Off we went to sports shoes shopping in Shihlin.  In one store, we bought six pairs of shoes. I had ordered running shoes on line, but they never arrived. It turned out that the credit card did not go through. I didn't know. So, at the store, they had Sauconey and Mizuno on sale. I bought Mizuno Prophecy 3 for 85US$! The only pair in my size! This is the shoes that I've been wanting to try, but they are usually 200US$. I also bought another pair of Sauconey! Again, on sale for 65US$! Alan bought a pair. Abby bought two pairs. Isaiah bought one pair. So, we walked out, spending 440US$!

We then came home to rest as we had gotten tickets for the late night showing of Dr. Strange. The movie started at 11:40! We didn't get out of the movie theater until after 1am!

What a celebration!  We will all sleep in tomorrow as church won't be until 4pm. But oh wait, I'm in charge of the thanksgiving dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isaiah's 18th Birthday!

What a special day!

Isaiah turned 18!

Yes, it's true.  He can now get a scooter license!

It was a school day as we don't get a thanksgiving holiday here in Taiwan and then this evening he had to go to his cram class after his afternoon tennis practice.

So, this morning before he took off to school, I made him his favorite breakfast -- French toast with whipped cream!

In the evening, we put a candle in a cookie covered with whipped cream and sang Happy Birthday. I'm not sure what he wished for... but I truly pray that this coming year would be a year of miracles!
