What A Splendid Day to Close Out 2022!

One surprise was that Isaiah called via the pay phone. That's the only way they can call. No cell phone. They were given a phone card with 100NT$. It was delightful to hear his voice. His haircut did not pass inspection. So, they had to cut it some more. He wasn't the only one.

The weather was chilly... which is my favorite. So, after Alan came home, I went for a run and I hit 12.68. I had time! I did another quick workout and came home. Mom and Alan were both resting.

After Mom went to bed, Alan and I went to church to set up for the evening service. I made milk tea and regular tea. I had bought lots of snacks. The service was absolutely beautiful... just a small group of people. The songs, the verses, the questions...

We dropped off a couple and headed home, arriving just minutes before 12midnight!

What a beautiful way to say farewell, 2022!

Daily Lovely Insight:

Isaiah 42:10 KJV Mobile Phone Wallpaper - Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise

One of the songs we sang tonight was Make Room... I think that's the 'new thing' for 2023... I need to make room for God to do more in and through me... I want to stop rushing around. I want to practice keeping the Sabbath. There are new things that the LORD has in store... And I'm trusting Him to have His way in my life! More of Him... Less of me...

Shake up the ground of all my tradition
Break down the walls of all my religion
Your way is better

Preparing for the New Year!

Monday will be a holiday and I have the New Year Eve's Service... I wanted to have a date with Alan without doing one errand or chore... but that was not possible.

We did have a splendid lunch at a fancy restaurant. A friend gifted us a birthday coupon and we needed to pay an additional 17US$ as we ordered quite a bit! I was not hungry when it was dinner time!

Then we went to Carrefour as I needed to buy a few bottles of bubbly drinks for tomorrow night... and then we went in search of something savory. I was so glad that we did as things are all closed for tomorrow!

I got these delicious buns which I can put in the fridge and microwave tomorrow evening.

We were home and I put away things and got Mom's dinner ready. I had 20 minutes to rest and Mom was back.

After Mom went to bed, I was back on the computer to finish a big editing project. I know I won't be finished until Monday, IF I have time this weekend!

And Isaiah had the use of his phone for 15 minutes!

Daily Lovely Insight:

I was quite impressed with the three 'names' mentioned of God in Revelations 19: the Word of God, The King of kings, the Lord of lords!

Isaiah Is "IN"...

It was a busy morning... I always say that because it's really true.

I had to get Mom ready and I asked the guard to help put her in the van as I had to take off. Isaiah was to report in by 9:15. We didn't know how bad the traffic would be since it was raining, which meant we had to drive!

We were actually early... and I was so bummed as he walked in and I didn't have a cell phone. So no pictures! There were so many parents. One set of parents even brought their dog and asked the check-in lady (who was dispensing the hand sanitizer) to take a picture for them! Most of the young men already had their hair shaved. I forgot to ask Isaiah if he passed. If he didn't, they would shave it again for 100NT$.

I drove home and went the long way, so I didn't get back until after 10am. Then it was cleaning up before heading out at 11:40 for a quick run and a stop at World Gym. I got home and had a quick shower and went out the door. I had a new student. The hour went by quickly. On the way home, I stopped to get fruit and veggies as I made a big pot of soup for dinner. A friend had dropped off some ingredients and it just made the soup so perfect!

I was at my computer to work on editing until Mom came home. The soup was ready!

Alan had his basketball night and I worked the night away. I also had prayer time with a sister. I couldn't do it last night, so we postponed it.

It's weird... both kids are away! We can go see Isaiah on January 8th. Then he gets to come home on January 14th to 15th. And yes, he will be home for Chinese New Year! He has to serve for four months, which will be about 63 'working days'.

A Productive Day!

It was a fruitful and productive day!

I did a load of laundry and then went straight to MOE! I was just a bit late, but it was a smooth ride! Without my lunch hour class, I was able to walk around, which was so much fun! I will do this again next week!

After work, I visited with Elaine and we had such a nice chat!

I rushed to World Gym for just 20 minutes and headed home, which was already 9:30! Abby called and needed her childhood vaccination record!

I also cut Isaiah's hair and helped him to get his stuff together. He doesn't have to bring much stuff as the military will provide everything!

Daily Lovely Insight:

At work, I finished another lesson for my Isaiah study homework! It was great...

Can I Sleep Just A Bit More???

It's true... I'd like to sleep and not have to worry about getting Mom up or taking care of Mom at 5:15! That would be so nice... Just to lay down and sleep...

I had a short run before my Bible study. Then when people left, I started looking over the new study that we are working on! Then to edit the New Year Eve's Service ppt file! I went and ran errands as Isaiah also took off to get his transcripts. From them he can deduct 7 days of military service! YEAH!

I did stop at World Gym and did a 10 minute workout. Better than nothing.

I rested for 20 minutes and Mom was home!

I had dinner ready! And I wanted to bake for the MOE...

Tonight the editing people came over as they are not doing a great job with the changes and I keep having to look over everything.

Alan was home.

Isaiah went to have dinner with Vikki.

Oh... if I can just sleep... like a bear and hibernate for a bit!

I Need More Sleep!

No time to rest...

After a short run, I was running out the door as a dear couple from the States had time to meet up before they go back. So, I scooter over.

When I got back, I had a conversation with the social worker... they messed up and I don't think they can resolve it. I will have to lose my hours from last year and just accept that I've started using next year's hours.

I also had prayer time with a dear sister and then Mom was home.

While she ate, I tried to sleep. I did not go to tap dancing. I wanted just to sleep but we had Family Time!

Daily Lovely Insight:

I was really struck by the way God is described in the beginning of the letters to each of the churches in Revelation. Read it for yourself and put it together and you get a magnificent picture of God.

Christmas Newsletter, Part 2!

Alan is next!

Recap of 2022:

1. HOP hired a full-time pastor in March!

2. Traveling this summer!

When I think of 2022, the phrase "Opening Up" seems to be the way to summarize this year. It started out with a fog of uncertainty of when and if things were going to open up after almost three years of being "Covid bound". Travel was limited to being within Taiwan. Quarantine was very much in place. So many things were cancelled or on hold. With hope and prayer and a leap of faith, I made travel plans to go to the US. Then after discussing with Lovely, we also made plans to go to England to see Isaiah as well as to catch the Wimbledon Tennis Competition in July. Abby and I would go for two weeks and then together, we'd go to the States. I would be there for the rest of the summer, returning in September when school starts. We did this by faith in March, not knowing what the government's decisions would be. We had a great time! The other major event was how the Lord brought Pastor James and his wife, Helen, to House of Praise. After being the head overseer and the interim pastor for five years, God brought a couple with whom I have really enjoyed working together. His preaching and experience as a pastor have been refreshing and challenging. He focuses on discipleship, which is where I want the church to move towards. I look forward to this new phase at HOP.

Personal Verse of Focus:

Isaiah 55:9

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts."

Isaiah 55:9 - Bible verse (KJV) - DailyVerses.net

Prayer Request for 2023:

This new year is going to be a year of "Change". Isaiah will be heading to fulfill his military service and be finished by the middle of April. Abigail will be finished with her YWAM DTS in Germany as well as her outreach in Argentina and Chile around the end of March. I will be retiring from full-time teaching t Soochow University. So, what's next? There is a sense of uncertainty for my children as well as myself. But I know that His plans go beyond what I can see. So, my prayer request would be for wisdom as I walk this coming year that appears to be filled with CHANGE!

Christmas Newsletter... Part 1

Abby is FIRST!

Recap of 2022: I graduated from Soochow University, Social Work Department, in June, but there was no graduation ceremony. I had a wonderful time with friends, saying goodbye! I also started a youth group with another church couple at House of Praise with the support of other families and our new pastor. At the end of June, I left my beautiful birthplace, Taiwan, and headed to the UK and the States. It was really nice, traveling with my brother and father around the UK. I got to do a lot of things that I never dreamed of, such as going to Wimbledon. In the States, I was introduced to Line Dancing! I was in California for six weeks and going Line Dancing made me feel like a 'real' American! I spent the time with my cousins, my Grandma Bea, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. I really cherished the time since I hadn't seen them in the past three years. Then in late August, I returned to the UK and headed to Germany. I traveled more and then started Discipleship Training School in Freiburg. I wasn't really well prepared as I didn't know that not knowing German would be a huge barrier. I also didn't know that DTS was going to be so 'tough'. All I can say is that God is in the process of transforming me, teaching me that I am VERY limited and I NEED to surrender every minute of my life to Him.

Bible Verse of Focus for 2023:
This Is An Isaiah 22:22 Year Of Doors That Swing Both Ways! Destiny Will Find Your Loved Ones!

Isaiah 22:22
And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. I will give him the key to the house of David -- the highest position in the royal court.

Prayer Requests for 2023:
1. To depend on God in all aspects, learning to depend on Him financially.
2. To have an amazing outreach in Chile and Argentina from January 2nd to February 24th.
3. To never give up.
4. To draw closer to God.
5. To become a woman of God.

A Semi-Repeat of Yesterday!

I am going to send a message every day to remind the Day Care Center NOT to keep giving my Mom water! Honestly, I never have to change the bedding on Sunday because I control her water intake on Saturday. But from Monday to Saturday, I am never sure... So, this morning, it was a heavy diaper and the sheet needed to be changed!

Mom went off... and I got started with my Bible study homework. It was nice to sit and work on it... with a shortbread biscuit and a cup of egg nog coffee... LUXURY!

I then took a nap before going out for a run. The weather was HOT... I overdressed... But I stopped in at World Gym, did a fast workout, and took off the long sleeved shirt... 12kms...

I finally plugged in the WiFi and downloaded the emails after taking a shower. I found an egg nog cake recipe and baked for MOE! Wow... what a simple recipe and it turned out beautifully. Mom was back on time... and had dinner.

Our tap class had a make up class, but I opted not to get online. We had Family Time at 9pm.

A Day to Rest & Catch Up!

We have lots of leftover, so it's nice to think that I won't need to cook until maybe Wednesday! Plus, no Bible study this week... I will only need to bake for the MOE!

So, I did a load of wash and got the vacuum running while I did my Isaiah Bible study! I won't finish until Tuesday and we will have our study on Friday!

The clothes were hung and in the dryer! I ate a small brunch and TOOK A NAP! YEAH! Again, the weather was so nice... But honestly, I could have slept the entire afternoon!

After more catching up with putting things in the car and returning the trolley and sorting things, I went for a run and a short workout at World Gym!

Today, I had time to wash my hair without rushing. Mom was home soon after I finished!

I worked on the Christmas Eve program and ordered quiches as a fun surprise for snacks after the service!

Tap dancing tonight... Family Time will be tomorrow night.

In case you didn't know -- Argentina won FIFA 2022 against France and Chargers won against the Tennessee Titans! (I didn't even know that Tennessee had a football team!) A miracle was that last Monday the game was "MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL" in the States, so Alan and Isaiah didn't get up at 5am! I was able to sleep longer... But today, it was at 5am!

Daily Lovely Insight:

I've been wanting to learn more about the Sabbath and the homework for Isaiah that I was doing talked about keeping the Sabbath! The purpose according to the author was to 'sanctify' His people! Here's the definition of sanctify: to set apart as or declare holy; consecrate!

How does the Sabbath set His people apart? How does the Sabbath declare His people holy?

Cheering Others On... Cleaning Up So Much Stuff!

This morning, I went to the Riverside Park and cheered on those who were running in the half and the full marathon! I stood with a group of seven gals and we had a blast!

I stopped at World Gym for a quick workout and went straight home.

No time to shower as I had to get Mom up.

She had breakfast and I had to change the sheet.

Alan came home from tennis. Isaiah was home as he was tired.

They watched Mom while I took a quick nap!

Then church at 2:30! Jenny and Erik had 7 bags of my stuff! Wow... After church, we had a dear sister and her husband visiting us. And then when they left, I got busy putting everything away. We had enough snacks for the 24th and the 31st! I just need to make the hot drinks!

I was feeling so tired... The good news is -- I left this week with plenty of room to rest! I HOPE!

Preparing for the White Elephant Party!

I will be very happy when the party is over... I just want to make it special but there are so many details to take care of... PLEASE PRAY!

I did have time to go for a run later in the afternoon and a very brief workout at World Gym!

Then it was Mom care... I had dinner ready!

We had a dinner date with friends at TGIF's... and Isaiah joined us... it was so much fun! The place was packed! It was so great that Isaiah got there early! Or we would have had no table until 8pm! The food there is so good! We walked out stuffed!

Isaiah and Alan came home and watched the Matrix. I had work to finish up plus a load of laundry to get done. Mom had peed through the bedding three days out of five. I told the Day Care Center! PLEASE -- don't keep giving her water!

Isaiah's Military Papers! & His Warwick Diploma!

Yes, it's official! Isaiah graduated with his masters with merit! He didn't get distinction, but still... He did good! And I went and picked up his military papers. He will have to shave his hair and they give him everything... even underwear! They also have laundry service! He goes on 12/29 at 9:15 and on 12/24 or the 25th, we can log on and find out when he will have vacation time!

So, someone did decide to delay his report date and that's how Isaiah got in! YIPPY! God is good!

I had another tremendously busy day!

Isaiah has a pair of pants and I went through his closet this morning and nothing. I made soup and then took off for a run to the 'marathon expo'... it was quite fun! I did the treadmill test to find out about my running stride. I also tasted everything they had for free! ha, ha, ha... I bought 6 pairs of running socks but no shoes. They were not as discounted as I liked! The socks were very discounted! That's why I bought six pairs! I had to carry them to run back to World Gym. And my workout was short as Isaiah texted me to go and pick up his military papers. And that took a while as they had to go through all the information!

On the way back I ran a few errands -- withdrew money, bought soy bean milk, picked up Alan's cell phone holder for the car, and got gas for my scooter.

It was so nice to be home. I had three hours of work to get to... and took down the clothes and made Mom's bed. I have to tell the Day Care Center that they are giving my mom way too much water! If they fill the cup with water, she will drink it. She will keep drinking it... just like if you put in front of her... she will just keep eating!

A Tremendously Busy Day!

Yesterday was tremendously busy and so was today!

Alan took Mom down and I had to change Mom's sheet before I took off. I was 15 minutes late to work. But I stayed until 5:30, so that was ok!

I had so much to finish!

I was editing for my other job, reading an article from my tutee, and trying to arrange for all the programs in December. I taught at 12:30 and then had office hours after that! By 3:30, I was back at my desk. I lost what I had edited. I didn't save it properly! DARN IT!

Well... at 5:40, I rushed to Soochow as I had promised my students that I'd attend their Christmas program. I sat next to three students who were not yet believers. I had so much fun, talking to them! I pray that they will come to know Jesus! That would be so amazing. One gal wants to come to my Thursday Bible study next semester. Please pray for Monica, Jenny and Roger!

Then I rode back and made a quick stop at World Gym. I didn't have time to do much... but something is better than nothing!

I got home, heated up my dinner, and was in front of the computer to tutor! What a great session!

We went long but it was fun!

I also looked for a second hand car for a friend... Toyota Wish, 2012, for 398,000NT$. It's above her budget, but I told her to go and bargain! God can move mountains.

I did go out for a walk as I was trying to hit 12,000 steps!

It's Raining Here Too...

I knew that this week was going to be busy...

I had a short fast run before my morning Bible study. The soup turned out beautifully. After I cleaned up, I headed out to World Gym, 30 minutes, and then donated blood! On the way back, I bought duck for my evening study! I was home just 20 minutes before Mom got back. That was enough time to put everything away and get her dinner heated up.

I had also done a load of laundry, so I got everything out of the dryer... and then baked for tomorrow.

This evening, I had my second Bible study, which was just a Christmas party... The food was a feast... the conversation engaging...

Oh... after my morning study, I put more ingredients in the electric pot and had Alan and Isaiah's dinner ready for them!

The weather is going to turn cold as we're getting hit by an arctic cold front... whatever that means. So, soup is the best! I think I'll keep making more soup for this whole week.

SIXTY-ONE!

I've been planning this day since the beginning of December! I wanted a day to be by myself!

And it was a splendid day!

After Mom and Isaiah left, Alan and I had our prayer time and he took off!

I put up all the chairs, trash cans, and other furniture so that the iRobot can vacuum. I then took down the clothes and cleaned up the bathrooms!

I got a cup of coffee and my book and settled down to read! I finished the book. Having time to read is the gift I gave to myself! The book I finished was Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ by John Piper.

Oh... I decided NO GADGETS! NO WORK!

At 11am, I went off to World Gym and a run around the River Park! 30 minutes at World Gym and I thought... hey, I will run 12.12 kms. The weather was perfect and my legs felt great! I had two records -- fastest mile and fastest kilometers. 5.37/kilometer and 9.37/mile! I never run that fast!

For lunch, I went and bought a 'fantwan'! WITH EGG! While I munched on that, I went for a hike. I didn't reach the top of Rock Face Mountain... I'll have to do that on another day. I had to get back home as I made an appointment for a one hour oil massage at 2:30!

After the massage, I was in no rush... So... I let myself have a nice long shower! I am usually in a rush... I had asked Alan to be home to pick up my Mom. I stopped at the local veggie and fruit stand and bought things for my Bible studies tomorrow plus I will need to bake for MOE on Wednesday. I'm making soup and mashed sweet potatoes. Yes, two different Bible studies! As for baking... I'm making something with chocolate!

I was home and got all the chairs down and Alan came home. Soon, Mom was home. I had dinner ready!

I finally picked up my phone and saw all the birthday wishes from House of Praise, my siblings and my best friends! I am truly blessed.

For this year, I'm seeking God in applying the gift of a Sabbath. Today was a great start! I highly recommend it to everyone! God created us and He knows we need a Sabbath for our body, soul and spirit. Like the run, I feel so refreshed... so alive! John 8:12 -- JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD AND THE LIGHT OF LIFE! How can we experience that light? I think having a Sabbath is a start!

I want to say: Ariel, a gal from my Bible study, gifted me with a meal at a restaurant! Jenny, a gal at HOP, gave me a new pair of socks -- COMPHY SOCKS! Jane, another gal who just returned from England, gave me a box of saltine crackers. She knew I like savory biscuits. Another gal from HOP gave me two containers of kimchi! And two brothers wished me happy birthday yesterday because they both knew I like things 'low key'.

I am still waiting for my homemade cards from my kids...

And Alan, Isaiah and I had dinner at a Cantonese restaurant tonight! For dessert, we went and got some sweet 'tangyuan' soup!

What a way to top off the celebration!

Daily Lovely Insight:

Here is the prayer from the last chapter of the book:

"Incline our hearts to Christ. Open our eyes to the glory of Christ. Break our addiction to this world. Cause us to set our minds on things that are above where Christ is seated at your right hand. Free us from the anxieties that come from too much dependence on earthly circumstances. Form us into a radical band of risk-takers in the cause of love because we know that this mortal flesh will put on immortality and this body of lowliness will be transformed into a body like Christ's glorious body. We love you, Father. We love your Son's appearing. Grant us to live out this hope in the freedom of self-sacrifice to the glory of your great grace. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Tiring Day!

I had tutoring today, which I enjoy, but made for a long day!

I went to walk the treadmill and do a quick workout and then got Mom up. I also made mashed sweet potatoes. YUMMY!

We had Family Time for only an hour as I had to rush off. We were supposed to do Family Time last night, but Abby bailed on us... she had a book report to finish and she wasn't feeling well.

Church went well and a friend came over to hang out afterwards.

I was very happy when it was time for bed!

NingXia Night Market & Things...

I did not have time for a run today... Can you believe that?

I had a helper come so that we can go out... The weather was delightful! The day flew by!

First after the helper came, I had to go by the Party Site to look over everything... Then we went out towards SanChong as Isaiah was hanging out with Vikki. We found a nice place for lunch and then picked up Isaiah at 2:15. It was too late to go out to Taoyuan, so we just headed towards Ning Xia Night Market. I went to walk around while Alan and Isaiah rested in the car. The night market did not start until 5pm.

I found a place for Accupressure and Alan had an hour while Isaiah and I each had half an hour. Very nice!

When we went to the Night Market, it was so different from when I walked over there at 3:30. Totally packed and crowded with people and stalls. There were long lines at some of the favorite spots! The weather was perfect and people were out! We had oyster pancakes, stinky tofu, fried onion cake with eggs, and bubble milk tea. I also had bought these DONAZ. Donuts filled with custard or taro or ... It was so much fun!

On the way back to our car, I stopped at a Carrefour to get tongyuan for Isaiah. While at the frozen section, I saw a girl, very pretty and dressed in a black sweat suit outfit take out things and placed the items into her Ikea bag. As we walked towards the cash register, instead of stopping, she went straight out the door. I immediately called the manager and when two of the clerks went out, she had disappeared. WOW! She must have done this many times! I am not sure how many items she stole... but her bag was pretty full! And she was very smooth about walking out without any hesitation.

We came back. Mom was in bed. And we had Family Time at 9pm.

We didn't get to Windows of China or the Lavender Garden, but it was still a fun day!
