Looking Forward to 2011

As we approach 2011, there are some areas of concern in need of your steadfast prayer support.

1. Isaiah's schooling -- We are in the process of filling out forms in order to homeschool Isaiah. The paperwork is extremely complicated. We want to partner with a local junior high school so that Isaiah would still be attending school three afternoons a week. Abigail will be in the sixth grade and this will work out well. But to get the school to cooperate, to get the right teacher, and to get everything approved are still heavy on our heart. We hope to get all the paperwork completed by Jan. 20th so that as soon as we get back from our Chinese New Year vacation, we would be sending in the application.

2. Our teaching schedules -- In light our first prayer concern, we surely need God's hands to orchestrate our teaching schedules. It is going to be a miracle. Once the schedule is out, it is very difficult to change. Presently, Lovely has to go out to Taoyuan once a week. It is a tremendously long day for her. It would be great if she can be teaching only in the Shihlin area. Along with Lovely's teaching, she is starting to write and hoping to get at least three books published in 2011. This will only become a reality with your prayer support.

3. Our church involement -- We have enjoyed the opportunities to speak and to counsel. We know that God wants to use us. We need wisdom when opportunities arise. We want to wait upon the LORD to lay His words upon our hearts before we agree to take on any speaking, counseling or other ministry. Alan will continue to be one of the Overseers of House of Praise. He needs God's wisdom as he and the other brothers plan for the direction of the church. We also hope that Abby will be serving on the worship team as a drummer and that Isaiah would be involved as a churcher greeter and to serve at every love feasts.

4. Our many celebrations -- Each year we have been so grateful for God's favor upon us. As we celebrate each holiday or birthday or anniversary, we want to be fruitful for His glory. We ask you to be in prayer for our safety and health. Isaiah still struggles with his allergies and Abby's eyes have not gotten worse this past year. We know that God is at work in their lives.

5. Our family time -- We have set aside every Friday as family time and couple time. In the morning, Alan and Lovely have time to be together to pray. Then in the evening when the kids are home, we take time to watch a special Christian program, discuss and pray together after reviewing our verses. Please pray that the LORD will lay upon our path the right Christian programs. We have gone through the Truth Project and That the World May Know. Both of these have been absolutely fabulous and such a blessing to us.

6. Our elderly parents and other family members -- Being away from our elderly parents and other family members is often difficult. We ask that you will remember to pray for them -- their health, their work, their every decision.

7. Our finances -- We praise God that He is our Provider. We have truly experienced that throughout our lives. When we look around our house, we are amazed at what we have found in the trash, in the dumpsters, from friends, in second hand stores, and how He always provide just at the right time. Right now we are in need of a car as ours is running on faith. Alan is also thinking of buying a better scooter and I will be riding his. (And that's a big prayer request right there -- for me to ride a 125cc scooter!!!) We wait upon the LORD and we ask that you would pray for God's insight and guidance when we make our decisions.

There you have them -- our 7 requests for 2011.

Thank you for partnering with us through prayer.

The Countdown -- Our Christmas 2010 Newsletter

For those who do not live in Taiwan, you might already be on your Christmas vacation! AHHHHH... how nice! For us, this year Christmas is on Saturday, so we actually have time to just sit and enjoy being together as a family. What are we planning to do? We don't exchange gifts, so there won't be the madness of unwrapping presents. We will have a special breakfast? What might be on the menu? Pancakes, waffles, French toast, scrambled eggs and moon over my hammy! (That's a Denny's breakfast special which we love and make on special occasions!) But I am getting ahead of myself. This post was to review this past year...

So, what are some highlights?

Celebrating our 23rd Wedding Anniversary!

Isaiah's 12th and Abigail's 11th birthday weekend! (We won't mention ours!!!!)

Two trips to the States to see our elderly parents, family members and friends!

Isaiah's wonderful accomplishment in the English Speech Contest!

For Lovely the miracle of her passing the scooter license (She now has a license to ride a 100cc+ scooter!)

The basketball teams that Alan coaches all placed in the top four in all the competitions they joined this year.

Abby excelling in all her school subjects and her extracurricular activities (She is one busy lady!)

What are some things that didn't happen?

Alan did not join a men's Bible study.

Lovely did not publish any new books.

Isaiah did not win his track and field races.

Abigail did not join her school's T-ball or swim team.

Despite all that didn't happen, it has been a tremendously anointed and blessed year. We want to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a VERY AMAZING NEW YEAR!

November Is Here and Gone!

Thanks-
giving &
Birthdays
Weekend!

I can't believe it's already November 30th. How did an entire month go by so quickly? This has been a fantastic month. I had to post something before December dawns tomorrow morning, or actually in just a few hours! What have we been up to this month? One word summary -- CELEBRATIONS!
Isaiah turned 12 and Abigail turned 11. The entire weekend was spent having fun! This year Isaiah's birthday was the same night as American Thanksgiving. So, we had a special dinner at home. After sharing around the dinner table about our favoriate memory of Isaiah, we each also gave thanks. Isaiah then opened presents. The evening very special.
The kids had school on Friday and I had a whole day of meetings, plus we had a couples' get together that evening. Needless to say, the day flew by and I must have soared on the wings of eagles! There was no other way that I got through such a hectic day!
Saturday was a planned day of fun and activities. We ended the day with an evening at the Shihlin Night Market. If we were to list just what we ate, this post would run way too long!
Sunday was Abby's birthday. As we had church activities and a bridal shower to attend, we celebrated at the end of the day. She got to open presents (while I made root beer floats for everyone!) and we spent time sharing about our fond memories of and thanksgiving for Abigail. We all got to bed with a very full stomach and hearts filled with gratitude.
That was only four days of this month! You can now imagine what the rest of the month was like!

Dancing with the Stars?

Well, Ming Chuan had a big English event and it was a lot of FUN. To make things more interesting, I made a Hawaiian grass skirt out of the local ENGLISH NEWSPAPER!!!! We had games in the morning and I ran the Tongue Twisters booth. The students had to memorize a tongue twister and then recite the sentence while doing a funny stunt that involved a "twist" or "turn" of their body. In the afternoon, we had a dance-off finale. I was the MC for the show and both Isaiah and Abby had to join one of the groups.

By the end of the day, I lost my voice. I am still trying to recoup. And if anyone uploads a video of me dancing on stage, well, that will be the closest I ever get to "dancing with the stars"!

YEAH -- Pressure Is Off!

Yes, it's already October! And of course, lots have been happening. The above picture was taken at the end of a LONG day. You see, Isaiah was one of two students sent from his school to be a part of the English Speech Competition. He had practiced -- memorizing his script and choreographing all the movements. But still, he was nervous, and so was I. He was put into the "foreign students" category in which the students have either lived abroad or studied in international schools. Alan and I just encouraged him to do his best for the glory of God. We were all very happy when he finished. (See that smile of relief on his face!) And when the results came out the next morning -- PRAISE THE LORD. He was second on the list!!!!

Summer Fun X -- The Tearful Send Off

I don't write for 6 weeks and in one morning, I posted 10 items... How do you like that? It took 10 postings to "summarize" 6 weeks!
Well, the summer ended... and it was time to head back to Taiwan. It is always difficult to say "see you later" to my dear elderly parents, Alan's elderly parents and his family members plus my sister and her "gang".
We have already booked our flights for our Chinese New Year visit. It's four months and 20 days away... I have already started "gathering" the things my mom wants me to bring back... I am NOT kidding!!!! What will we do this time? I don't know... a cruise, maybe... but definitely, we will have a wonderful time and the time will again fly faster than the speed of light.

Summer Fun IX -- Hearst Castle's "Limo"

Isaiah is sitting in a very special seat -- the wheelchair seat! Mom was in front with the driver. And I sat in the back with Daddy George! They had a great time!

Summer Fun VIII -- YBNormal & Ping Pong Time

In San Diego, we took out the 40+ year old ping pong table (really!!! Alan played on the same table when he was a kid!) and set it up in the garage. The kids had a great time with all their cousins!

Summer Fun VII -- Sand, Sea & Sun

Summer Fun VI -- Family & Friends

We had a big Alagata Family Get Together. We got to see the Beccues' and my kids just loved the family rec room. We were able to visit with the Brantinghams', but the time was NOT enough. It never is...

Summer Fun V -- The Contrast

You had to be there to believe this...
On one side, you see my elderly parents -- completely covered, trying NOT to get a speck of sunshine. On the other side, well... yes, my sister, my brother in law, my kids and my nephews, enjoying every ray of sunshine. Are we having fun yet???

Summer Fun IV -- Hearst Castle -- The Blind & Deaf Tour

Yes, Isaiah and I went with Mom and Daddy George on the "accessible tour" as the other two people didn't show up. Mom was able to touch everything and I translated for her and could talk so that they both could hear... Needless to say, they had a great time. They want to go again!

Summer Fun III -- Santa Barbara Old Town

"Oh, this is just like Little House on the Prairie..." That was what my mom said throughout the whole time that we walked around this place... Needless to say, they had a great time!
