Last Day of 2016!

We tried to squeeze so much into this last day of 2016!

We were off early, heading down to Taichung for a friend's wedding. On the way down, we were to pick up Theresa Liu from Hsinchu. Just when we were getting close to Hsinchu, the traffic got really congested. Oh no... at this rate, we'd be in Taichung by 12:30 and miss the whole wedding. I sent a message to our friends, asking for prayer. We got to Hsinchu by 8:47 and God did it. He parted the Red Sea of Traffic. We typed in our destination in Taichung and the time to get there -- one hour and 10 minutes. I wanted to get there by 9:50 so that we'd have time to sit and talk to the groom. Amazingly, we got there at 9:52, giving me almost 10 minutes.

After the service, we had to head straight back to Taipei. But, I had a chance to talk with several of the guests. And while filling up on some orange juice at the refreshment tables, I talked with another lady who had a heart palpitation problem and prayed with her. The traffic back up to Taipei was light... which was very unexpected. We were home by 3pm. I put things away and did a load of clothes. And with such perfect weather, I went for a last run in 2016. I had time to run 15 kilometers.

The kids had their own activities. Isaiah hung out with his teammates. Abby went with her classmates. Alan and I had dinner with James at Chili's.  After dinner, James went to meet up with his group and we went and hung out at Miramar. Alan couldn't stand for long even though the music was quite good this year.

We came back at 10:45 and watched TV before looking at the fantastic fireworks from both the Miramar and the Taipei 101 that started at 12 midnight right in our living room.

Happy New Year...

A God-led Day

Today we took off early and headed to Toufen and Hsinchu.

We wanted to pray on the land that our pastoral couple bought... so, it was very nice to hike around and see the place.

Then we went to Tsinghua University, where I shared from Ps. 1:3 and Rev. 22:1-2. The group was small - about 15 people - but it was so nice to finally see where the Lord has planted our sister and friend, Theresa Liu.

We drove back, got the car washed and filled up the tank as we'll be heading down to Taichung tomorrow. We tried to get high speed rail tickets, but we didn't do it early enough. No train tickets, no high speed rail tickets... we have to drive!

I'll write more about that tomorrow!

Seeing Old Friends

I had lunch with Agnes, a dear friend who lived in Taipei some 20 years ago.

She's now married with a son. They are passing through for a few days and we had lunch together with Caroline, Grace, and Elaine.

We chatted for 3+ hours and the time was not enough!

These past few days have been filled with time with old "Evergreen" friends.

It really reminded me of what the Lord did almost 30 years ago.

God indeed is an amazingly good God... even when we don't understand His ways.

Getting Creative!

I realized that I actually have a lot of canned goods and sauces and stuff in my freezer that I should use up.

To accomplish this new 'project', I have to be very creative!

I must say I'm quite happy with the results so far!

I've made different kinds of spaghetti.

I've made interesting casseroles.

And of course, for the two big feasts -- Thanksgiving and Christmas -- I was finally able to use up the turkey bones that I've had in my freezer.

Slowly but surely, I think by March of next year, I'll be finished with this new 'project'!

Tears of Thanksgiving

Image result for Psalm 33: 6-7
This morning started with the cremation service for Irwin. Walking into the room that was set up at the mortuary, I saw the picture that they had set up. No one was around yet. So, it was good to sit there and cry as I remember the years of friendship we have had with this wonderful brother in Christ.

The Memorial Service was very traditional. A small group of Evergreen friends sang I Believe in Jesus.

When I got home at around 2pm, on Facebook, three of my best friends recorded their first practice session of the song, How Great Thou Art. It's the song that I had told them I'd like to be sung at my 'celebration service'. I also told them that I'd like the song to be sung with tambourine and bells. Furthermore, I'd like for the Lord to take me home when I'm 77. Well, that's only 22 years from now. So, they don't have a lot of time to practice!

(I couldn't upload the video, so here is just an image of them in Suz' living room!)

Their video reminded me the beauty of friendship, the hope of eternity and the love of God.

I watched the video clip and laughed until tears were running down my face!
