Amazing -- We Got Our Birth Certificates!

Annie walked Mom down to catch the van so that I can take off at 8:10 to the Neihu Housing Office AGAIN!

It was good that I went early as I was trying to get Annie's birth certificate. And while I was there, I thought, "I'll get mine!" Then Eddie texted and said, "Get mine!" and James said, "Get mine, too!" So, the guy was extremely patient and after 2.5 hours, I was in the process of getting all of our birth certificates. James was the tricky one as there were two districts listed. So, I asked him to call me if they locate it.

I had to go to Costco and RTMart: Costco for milk tea packets for Annie to bring back to the States and a cake for the day care center to celebrate Mom's birthday, plus a bag of frozen veggies for Nic as he is a pure vegan. I also went to RTMart to get fruits and more packets of almond milk and sesame paste. My scooter was so packed! I rode very slowly. I dropped off the cake and headed home.

After a quick lunch, I was out for a run and a brief workout. I didn't have time yesterday. And today was so hot!

I got back and the Housing Report called! They found it! Without taking a shower, I headed out. As I was going down the hill, I saw Annie and Eddie walking up! Nic had decided to ride back, while Annie and Eddie took the MRT. They had a fabulous time, except Eddie's knee was hurting! So, we are not sure what they will be able to do tomorrow.

I picked up James' birth certificate and when I got home, the diapers and Annie's Chinese powder had arrived. YEAH! She brought Mom up from the van and we packed up her box. The pineapple cakes have not yet arrived!

And... the news... while I was waiting at the Housing Report this morning, Isaiah called. His next assignment is not out in Matzu or Kinmen! YEAH! It's only in Taoyuan, so he will be able to come home each weekend! Thank you for your prayer support!

I also baked while Mom was eating... I found this very simple cookie recipe! Oatmeal, bananas, chocolate chips, raisins, cinnamon and vanilla. Mix and bake! So, delicious. I will make some for Alan when he is back!

Please pray for our downstair neighbors. They are again complaining: this time to say that we make too much noise! I tried to explain that it can't be us, unless it's just recently, as we have only had Mom and I home. Recently, we have had Annie, Nic and Eddie, as well as Isaiah. But they are mad as hornets as when I tried to ask for further details and explained that no one has been home, she said that we are inconsiderate and putting the burden of the problem on their shoulders. Please pray!

Tonight, I stayed up to talk to and pray with Alan!

Paper WORK Day!

Trying to help Annie get her Taiwan passport was amazing complicated... After calling the Bureau of Consular Affairs, we actually went down there!

There we called someone and a person actually came down. She was tremendously helpful and we were tremendously grateful as we bypassed the four hour line!

We finished there and went to the train station area and that was fun. We had lunch, shopped, and we were planning to bike back. Unfortunately, I only had two Ubikes cards registered. So, I took the MRT home and we all arrived at the same time.

I rushed home, got my ID card, and scootered over to the Neihu Household Registration Office. When I got there, I knew the line was going to be terrible as the scooter and car parking lots were both full! Going up there, I was 509 and there were 132 people in front of me. The announcement was that there were too many people in there. So, if your number is not going to be called for a while, please vacate the premise. I waited for over 90 minutes, and finally got to the window. I got the form, but will have to go back again tomorrow to see about getting Annie's birth certificate from TAICHUNG!

I came home at 5pm, and put Mom's dinner in a bowl and headed to World Gym. I had already bought food for everyone. Nic met me down at a dumpling shop at 5:55 as he did not get enough food! We came home to sing Happy Birthday to Mom! Tomorrow, I will drop off a Costco cake at the Day Care Center after I finish with my attempt to get the birth certificate for Annie. I didn't have time today to even think about celebrating Mom's birthday.

Eddie should be out tomorrow... But I don't know what they will do! I think they should go for a bike ride to Danhsui!

Isaiah called at 7:10 instead of at 6:25 after dinner. His vacation will be starting on Saturday for four days before he has to report to his next 'station'. And he will take the bus home on Saturday morning as I will be getting Mom ready for the Day Care Center. Saturday is a 'make-up work day'. He will call again tomorrow after the 'lottery'.

And for the Chinese New Year "lucky bag", we did not win anything!

I was too tired this evening to stay up to talk to and pray with Alan! Sad... but I needed sleep!

What A Sunday!

Because Isaiah is missing out on gathering as a body of believers for worship, we decided to try another morning service -- THE HOPE. We've heard lots about this church as it has grown so fast. So, we went to the 11:30 service.

After that was finished, we got lunch and came home. Eddie was here... and Nic went for a bike ride! The weather was just perfect. In the morning, I had walked to World Gym and went and bought breakfast for everyone.

At 3:15, we were off again. We dropped Isaiah off at the MRT and headed to House of Praise. It was a smaller congregation, but it was a wonderful service.

We were home by 6:50 and after getting Mom to bed, Nic, Annie and I headed to Shihlin Night Market. Annie was so tired... as she is usually asleep by 7pm, the same time as my Mom. She had a few things to buy and we wanted to try more food. The crowd wasn't too bad.

We were home by 10:15!

I talked and prayed with Alan. And Isaiah had sent a message earlier that he was back at camp by 7:15, and no more cell phone! He will call me tomorrow.

Yes, this week will be interesting. We are still waiting for Eddie to test negative. Nic is free now. My Mom's birthday is tomorrow, but we can't have our birthday dinner. Even if Eddie test negative tomorrow, we have to wait until he gets a second negative on Tuesday. Actually, I think he is free to roam, but not free to see Mom. I should check if the rule has changed.

Cancelled Tainan... But Still Fun!

I love this cold weather... so... off I went for my usual 10km. Finished the week with 46:33! I'm happy!

Then, I got Mom up and at the breakfast table and rested while Annie 'watched' her. She had gone for a run while I was working with Mom! I also called to make appointments for Annie and Eddie and Nic, hoping that they will be well by Thursday to get a massage and a scalp treatment.

At 1pm, Annie and I went out to get more food... We went to four places for sweet desserts and 'tango' and then stopped at PXMart for groceries as the vegetarian restaurant closed at 2pm. We were home by 2:38!

Everyone enjoyed the food! I also made a big pot of veggie soup. That was for dinner! YUMMY, especially on such a cold day!

Because of the weather, we all stayed in the house... No night markets... No biking...

Eddie and Nic watched movies inside the room! Isaiah and I watched the Australian Open Women's Singles Final.

Later on in the evening, I got to talk to Alan and we prayed together. That's always nice.

The Second Wrench...

Nic tested yesterday... negative... but this morning... he was positive!

Now, he is in the room with Eddie.

Glad we all wore mask yesterday and Mom had no direct contact with Nic! Praise Jesus!

So, I had planned to go and hike the Rock Face Mountain with some friends from our Evergreen days... but it turned out only Annie and I went. Isaiah stayed home with Grandma.

In the morning, I had to run around to get the refund... I think that's done! Praise Jesus! They deducted a percentage, but I think I'm getting most of it back.

I am cancelling all other  planned 'outings'... Mom will be going back to the Day Care Center on Monday, January 30th! Then Annie and I will have time to run errands. Maybe Eddie and Nic will test negative by Thursday, 2/2!

This evening after Annie, Eddie and Nic went to bed, I ordered pineapple cakes online... I wanted to make sure Annie has plenty to bring home... and perhaps to enjoy some while she's here! I don't know how much time we will have to shop! Isaiah goes back to his Command Base on Sunday. I have to work on Wednesday... And Annie is heading back on Friday, 2/3! WAHHHHH!

This evening, Alan and I had time to talk and pray together!

Daily Lovely Insight:

The events of the past two days reminded me always to focus on God, and never on our present circumstances. God is with me. That doesn't change! God is my Strength and my Shield. That doesn't change! God is in control. That's doesn't change! Today, I had to scooter down to the Main Train Station to get the refund for our High Speed Rail tickets. That place is so confusing, that after I finished, I could not find the underground scooter parking... I asked so many people, even the police, and no one knew! Running around, I just asked the Lord to lead... and He did!

Eddie and Nic Are Here... BUT!!!!

I was up several times, as I didn't want to miss my time and then rushing to get Eddie and Nic!

They arrived but Eddie looked so tired... and when he got to my house, we tested him... POSITIVE! We immediately quarantined him in our master bedroom! He just slept!

I went out for a run and a stop at World Gym. And when I got back, I knew we had to change plans. So, I called and made an appointment for Annie and Nic to get a massage! We went out to lunch at a vegetarian restaurant and then they were dropped off. Isaiah and I with Mom went to get a few things.

I got back and put Mom in the sofa chair, but she didn't want to stay put.

At 3:51, I was back in the car and went to pick up Annie and Nic and some dinner. So many yummy things!

Tonight we ended with a game or two of mahjong! Annie didn't know how to play.

By tomorrow, I will have to decide if we are to cancel our trip to Tainan!

More Shopping...

The weather is chilly... but I love running in this weather... But late afternoon, the sun decided to appear!

Isaiah went and played tennis and met up with Vikki.

Annie and I along with Mom went out to run a few errands. I dropped off things that were in the car as I'll be picking up Eddie and Nic and they will have four pieces of luggage. Two of the pieces are for me! Oh my!

Then we went to Decathlon and Carrefour and Annie got exhausted so fast... Oh well... She said she got most everything... I doubt it as she will think of other things she has been looking for... We have to go back to Shihlin Night Market... And we still have to buy pineapple snacks.

Mom and Annie went to bed and Isaiah and I worked on more job applications. I did not talk to Alan as he had an overseers' meeting!

Bible Study, Lunch & RT Mart!

I had set several appointments for today as Annie and Isaiah had their massage appointment in the afternoon.

First at 10am, I got online for my Tuesday evening study... yes, it was changed to the morning as the gals had an outing... but I opted out since Annie was here. The study has 8 lessons and we finished lesson 7! We have already decided on our next study as one of the gals will be going back to the States. We ordered and it will be shipped to her house and she will lug the books back for us.

When I finished the study, I rushed over to Miramar as I met up with a student for lunch. She is writing a story and wanted some tips. She has a creative writing class and she's working on a horror story. That's not my forte but she still wanted my opinion.

I rushed back as Isaiah and Annie needed to head to their appointment, which was set for 2pm. Annie totally enjoyed it. She could have stayed for another hour or more!

We headed out to RTMart as Annie wanted to buy a few things. She is getting her 'second' piece filled up!

Dinner was at home.

Abby is off the mountain and I got to call her.

I forced Isaiah to work on his applications. I'd like for him to send off 7 before he heads back. I don't think it's going to happen... but one can always HOPE! Opportunities are out there, but if he doesn't apply, he won't know what he is up against! And the end of his conscription is coming up fast... faster than he might think and I don't want him to have nothing to do when he finishes in mid April.

Taipei Zoo & Shihlin Night Market! All in One Day!

It was another early morning. I wanted to go for a run and stop at World Gym before getting my Mom up. When I got back, Annie went for a run! The weather was perfect.

Isaiah stayed in bed!

Mom had breakfast and we had ordered a four-person meal from Pizza Hut. So, Isaiah and I went and picked it up! It was YUMMY!

Off we went on the MRT and headed to Taipei Zoo. It was very crowded!

After two hours, Annie had enough walking. Mom was in her wheelchair! So, we were back home by 4:30!

Mom had dinner and Annie worked on her nails. I had already cleaned her ears!

Annie went and laid down for a nap. I had done a load of laundry this morning! So, I put away the clothes that were on the line!

Mom went to bed and we went out to the Shihlin Night Market via scooters. It's easier.

Worship at Bread of Life!

What a wonderful way to start the 'New Year' with worshipping at a new place!

Happy Chinese New Year 2023 Graphic by DEEMKA STUDIO · Creative Fabrica

First, Annie and I went for a walk before I got Mom up! We also saw that PX Mart was selling "Lucky Bag", so we got a number. Before going to church, we got one. Now, on Mom's 92nd birthday, the winners will be announced. We have ONE chance to win three different cars, plus an assortment of prizes! It would be fabulous to win! The Lucky Bag was 300NT$ or 10US$!

We went to the Bread of Life church service since HOP wasn't having church. It was a great service... Even though I sat with a roomful of people I didn't know, I felt right at 'home'. They handed out Blessing Envelope with a verse. They had all their satellite services come online to say hello. They played a game of Pictionary and I even went onstage to guess at what was drawn.

The service started at 10:45 and it ended at just after 12:30. We then walked over to Miramar and had lunch in B1. It was packed! But how fun! We eat ordered something different! The sun was out and it was perfect. Afterwards, we found a place that sells sweet rice balls soup and ordered a bowl for Annie. We were home and Annie and I had planned to go bike riding, but we all took a nap! It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon!

We had dinner at home!

Isaiah has to report in every day for the military!

And Alan and I talked and prayed together!

The "Eagle" Landed!

That's my sister, Annie. She is here in Taiwan!

I got up early, expecting her flight to be landing at around 6:15. It was late. So, she didn't get into Taipei until almost 9am. She took the bus to the domestic airport, which is about 20 minutes from our home! We loaded up the box and her luggage and headed home.

I got Mom up... actually Mom was already up and undid her hand restrains... and I think you can guess the rest. I worked on getting Mom into the shower and cleaned up the room. While Mom was eating breakfast, I unpacked the box and the suitcase with the help of Isaiah! It was fast! Since I had made room for things, I just stacked everything in the closet! This way the house and the living room still look tidy. Annie had her little carry-on in her room. I showed her all the stuff I have been gathering for her! She will have at least 20 kilos of stuff and we haven't even started shopping!

We chatted and finally at 12noon decided to go towards the Presidential Hall, the Botanical Garden and the 228 Peace Park. What fun! The weather cleared and it was delightful to walk around. I even got Annie to walk to a shopping alley. Although most stalls were closed, we did find and purchase a few items. YEAH!

We drove back home and Mom had fish sticks and dessert. I had leftover with Annie. Isaiah had instant noodles.

Mom was in bed and the three of us played LUNAR NEW YEAR MONOPOLY! Annie was the winner! She had one property that we kept landing on and we had to fork out the money to her! She went to bed early. Please pray that she will wake up refreshed and with no sign of dizziness! We pray that the airplane ride here did not set off her vertigo!

Tomorrow we will go to church.

And yes, I did hit World Gym this morning before going to pick up Annie. No time for a run! Oh well... It was perfect running weather. With all the walking, I did hit my step goal! I didn't hit 50kms for this week. Just a few kilometers short!

Isaiah and I stayed up until 12 midnight and Alan and I did get to talk and pray together! Abby even was able to send us a message.

Mom's Evaluation! Isaiah's First Pair of Glasses!

I had this day planned... And I knew it was going to be busy! It turned out much smoother than I had expected. Thank you, Jesus!

I was up early... I wanted to squeeze in my run and workout before getting Mom up!

Isaiah didn't get up early to play tennis. But he did go run his 3kms and picked up his scooter. Yes, he walked from the MRT Station! Wise kid. He didn't want to drink and ride!

I got everything ready for our afternoon of appointments. We got there and went from 'door to door', checking in. The eye doctor refused to do the evaluation, wanting Mom to have seen him at least three times. The ear doctor was not in! What? He had cancelled all his appointments to take the day off. But the psych evaluation doctor was there. She was great! She contacted the social worker, gave Mom an exam, and wrote out the prescription. Isaiah was getting his eyes checked! The social worker asked so many questions. It took a while... but the evaluation is FINISHED! Wow... and Isaiah got his prescription. Not bad... 1.25 and 1.50. He still wanted glasses as he has to shoot properly and the target is 175meters away.

So, we left the hospital and went and had a late lunch or an early dinner. YUMMY! First we went and picked out a frame. The pair of glasses was ready when we finished our meal! We also stopped at Starbucks. Buy one and the second on his 50% off! I still had my coupon card!

Mom came home and had some cereal and a banana and she was ready for bed! Actually, so was I...

But I wanted Isaiah to work on looking at a few companies that are hiring. We worked on them! Prayer time with Alan!

Annie will be in Taiwan EARLY! Hopefully, she will know how to take the bus to the SongShan Airport.

Daily Lovely Insight:

I have read Exodus so many times, but something always strikes me. I love pouring over the details that are captured in words. Pillar of Fire... Pillar of Cloud... I was struck with the image of a pillar! The pillar represented the manifestation and the presence of God. Today, those pillars exist through the Holy Spirit given to His people on Pentecost! I was reminded to be more aware of God's manifestation and presence in my daily life. How about you?

Changes Happened!

I planned this day to set things up for the arrival of Annie and Eddie and Nic. When Mom left, I got out blankets and more jackets, put fans away, got the radiator heater into Abby's room, as that's where Annie will sleep. Eddie and Nic will take the master bedroom. Isaiah will be out in the living room. My Mom in her room and Annie in Abby's room. Where will I sleep? In my favorite place -- the study. I'll put the sleeping bag on the floor as padding and sleep there. When I get up, I'll have my quiet time. I love it!

I went out for a run at 11:06, thinking I'll get back before Isaiah called. Well, he called early and left a message. He can come home early. So, I scrambled to tell the Day Care Center, made arrangements with our guard, took a shower and went out. The traffic was a bit congested. I thought I'd have 30 minutes to read in the car. I had only 5 minutes.

On the way back, the traffic was better. But we didn't get here until 5:25. The guard had sat my mom down in the lobby. YEAH!

Dinner was ready.

While they ate, I did a load of laundry.

I blogged.

I checked emails.

Isaiah went to the KTV with the 'boys'... pray for this group. I don't think they are a good influence and Isaiah is not speaking Jesus to them. Why do I say that they are not a good influence? Because like in Junior High School, when Isaiah hung out a particular group of boys, after two days of school, he became rude and obnoxious. Then he would have two days of homeschooling and would get back to normal! While serving in the military, because he has to be at the bus depot by 5:30, he has not been attending church. He also does not read the Bible. So, I've noticed that it takes him two days before Isaiah 'comes back' and he is again off to the base. So, we will see in these 10 days. Hopefully, he will start reading again! Maybe more than just one verse! And we will be going to church on 1/22, even though it won't be at HOP.

Isaiah left at 7:30 and Mom was in bed. So, I went and finished the other errands -- checking on all transport cards that they have money in them.

A Prepared Day at the MOE

Yes, I was prepared... that we'd have nothing to edit. So I emailed my account with things to do. I finished the 2/26 message... well... 90% finished. I caught up on some reading. I went for a short run at lunch time. I edited for Secom and that's FINISHED! I even had time to watch some decluttering short videos!

I didn't get there this morning until 9:25, so I didn't leave until 5:25. I met the gal whose parents needed a shower chair. She was there waiting for me. She gave me two bags of baked goods... YUMMY!

I scootered over to World Gym and did 20 minutes. I could have stayed longer, but Alan's scooter's oil needed changing. So, I went over there and got that done. Yes, I had to as things will be closed for Chinese New Year! I was home right on time... actually 3 minutes early.

The lady was great. She had Mom on the toilet. I signed the paper and finished the rest of the bed time routine.

I had a quick dinner and was in front of the computer tutoring.

No prayer time with Alan as I had fallen asleep when he tried to call.

Not Like Yesterday...

I spent the morning after Mom left to rest and read... splendid!

Then at 12noon, I turned on the WiFi and started to work on my talk for 2/26 and work in editing. Since Isaiah usually call at lunch time, I decided to have lunch! Very yummy! I'm still enjoying leftovers! And Isaiah did call. We had a very brief conversation. After doing more on my talk notes, I headed out for a run at 2:05! I couldn't delay it any longer or else I won't have time to shower and do dinner prep before Mom gets home.

I blogged while Mom had dinner and then had to get everything ready for tomorrow with the helper coming at 5pm, while I'm still at MOE.

I had already baked egg nog bread yesterday, so I made honey butter to bring tomorrow. YUMMY!

Everyone Trying To Get Things Done Before the New Year!

I was out the door almost as soon as Mom was in the van! I had a list... and it was not long, but the first item was going to take some time!

I went to the Neihu Government Housing Office to get the 'paperwork' for Mom's handicapped evaluation. It was a busy, busy, busy place! There was a lady there... Oh... she was trying to get her daughters signed back in because they have been gone for too long... she was frustrated and I just held her hand and tried to calm her down. I understood... The lady who was helping us was super nice! I forgot to bring my ID card, but I had my National Health Card and she called her supervisor, and she said it was ok! I had forms after forms to fill out. And in about 65 minutes, I was finished! I ran upstairs to ask about Isaiah's holiday. The military desk had no answer. Once they send the individuals in, they have no information... top secret, I guess! Then I went up to the library and returned a book! Very nice and efficient!

On the way back, I went and bought fruit. Mom has a banana every morning. And the fruit stand had a huge sign: closed until the fifth day after Chinese New Year!

I then went to drop off money and donation! YEAH!

It was already 11:00, so I stopped at World Gym for my quick workout. I was going to go to the Cell Phone place, but they don't open until 12noon. I wanted to get unlimited data for the phone that Eddie will be using! After another quick workout, I got gas for my scooter and headed home!

I was so glad to have eaten a quick breakfast. And Angel had left me all kinds of goodies... I had some for lunch! I'm a happy camper!

At 1:30, I was out for my run. The temperature had dropped... not many people were out at the Riverside Park.

I got home, showered and had prayer time at 4pm!

When we finished, I was online, making doctor's appointment for Mom. She has no day care center on the 20th, so for Friday afternoon, I made three appointments! YES, three appointments as I have to get her assess for three different items: her eyes, her hearing, her mental and physical state! Isaiah needed to check his eyes, so I made an appointment for him as well!

Mom was home and enjoyed her dinner! I had made thick saucy soup with rice topped with a meat sauce. She loved it!

This evening, after she went to bed, I gassed up the car and dropped off a desk lamp and went to get the 'upgrade' for the cell phone. YEAH!

I got home and it was prayer time with Alan!

I was so ready for bed!

And perhaps, we can say what is happening in our lives and follow that with "His love endures forever". I think our perception and perspective will be changed! Try it!

Making Room for the "Goods"

I worked on organizing the large closets in our living room. Annie says she's bringing 100 pounds worth of goods. In our house, where will I put the stuff? So, now, I have an empty shelf so that when Annie comes with cereal and cake mixes, I have a place for everything. Plus, there will be six people here in this house. I can't have things lying around. We would be tripping on each other already!

Isaiah went to play tennis and did a 3kilometers jog. The weather was nice! And then he watched the Charges' Playoff Game! It started well... for the Chargers... but... You'll have to watch for yourselves.

Yes, I got Mom up and she enjoyed her meals and listened to Chinese songs.

We left at 3:15, dropping Isaiah off at the MRT Station before heading over to church. I was the translator today!

Next week: NO SERVICE! And Annie would be here.

I went to World Gym... QUICK... and got my steps in!

Instead of posting another story by Wilson, I will post an excerpt from Shawn Craig's Between Sundays Devotional:

Whether we are basking in God's glory, facing disappointments, or confronting the truth of our transgression, God has provided a place where we can stand beside him. He will be with us and help us not to be afraid. he will cover with his hand what he knows we cannot bear. And he will give us the courage we need to encounter what we must.

Parents' Day!

I knew it was going to be a super crazy day... God indeed strengthened me!

I was up early... and I got Mom up and she ate and I changed her diaper and put her back to bed!

I drove to World Gym. Yes, I had another quick workout and headed to Yilan. The google map stopped working and I was praying. Proverbs 3:5-6 -- trust in the Lord... lean not on to my own understanding... I remembered to go to the 3 then to the 5, get off at Exit 38, go towards 191, turn right to 192... and that was it! I was on surface streets, so I stopped to the side and used the other phone. It worked, but kept freezing... and I would pray! I got to the Command Reserve by 8:24! I told Isaiah that I'd be there after 8:30. After a quick tour, I ran around the 'camp' until someone came to tell me that I was running in too big of a 'range'. So, I could only run around a 300meters circle! But I completed 10k! YEAH! Hit my goal of: 56:33 this week! Yes, this week was the 6:33! 26:33, 36:33, 46:33 and 56:33! Super happy!

Isaiah was mad as he wanted to leave earlier... but we left at 10:25 and headed back to Taipei. The traffic was bad. We arrived back at 12:00! We dropped off one of the cadets at the MRT station and I got Mom up, cut her hair, showered, and she had lunch! Isaiah went off to meet Vikki and I took Mom to McDonald's as another friend from the States was here. Angel and her girls took off! We had a wonderful time, catching up, while Mom enjoyed a large fries and jasmine honey tea!

At around 4:30, she had to head off and I took Mom, in an attempt to get her some passport style photos. Wow... It was laborious! Anyhow, I hope the government agency will accept the result! It's nearly impossible.

We were home and Mom listened to her ancient Chinese poems, which she enjoys and I got to clean up and do a load of laundry. Yes, Isaiah brings home his laundry to do here. It smells better!

Mom was tired and went to bed by 7pm. Isaiah was home at around d9:25 and we spent about an hour looking at job opportunities and started on one application! We are not finished! We will also look for other opportunities.

The Dandelion is Unusual

by Walter L. Wilson (1881-1969)

Walter L. WilsonDid you plant the dandelions in your front yard? Dandelions are no respecter of persons. They adorn the yards of the rich and show their yellow glory around the hovels of the poor. They delight to grow in the cemetery or in the garden of the Prince. They flourish in the woods where no one can observe them, or they show their smiling faces right near your front steps though they certainly will be dug up at the first opportunity. How persistent they are. How quickly they develop. They are up in the morning before you are. They blossom and go to seed and seed your neighbor's lawn while you are trying to make up your mind whether to dig them out yourself or hire someone else to do it. They are the first to bloom in the Spring and the last to be discouraged in the Fall. Let us consider the message which the dandelion gives to us. We too should be out early with the seed of the Word of God and continue until the shadows fall, scattering the message.

If the grass in your front yard is two inches high the dandelion will grow three inches. If you should neglect to cut the lawn and the grass grows five inches long the dandelion will grow six inches high and smile at the sun. If you should be on a vacation and the grass should grow ten inches long, then that persistent, "not to be whipped" dandelion will grow eleven inches tall and stick up its nose at the passing throng. It simply will not be downed. It rises above "its circumstances." It will not be outdone by its neighbors. It has an ambition to get somewhere and it gets.

One dandelion plant may multiply itself by several hundreds. Quite a few blooms will appear from the one plant and on each bloom there will be many seeds. Each seed is equipped with a sail to carry it on the wind. The Lord knew that no one would plant dandelions and that men would despise them, so He gave them the means of quickly recovering from the devastating knife of man by causing them to multiply quickly and profusely. The seeds ripen very quickly and a puff of wind blows them over the entire neighborhood. So the Lord would have us to be fruit bearing children of His. It is those who "TURN MANY TO RIGHTEOUSNESS," who shall shine as the stars for ever and ever. The Father is glorified if ye bear MUCH fruit.

The dandelion is not easily discouraged. It does not wilt with sorrow because it has to bloom behind the barn. It does not hide its face with shame because it cannot be on the front lawn of the courthouse. It does the bidding of its Maker happily and beautifully, whether it is in an obscure place or in a very prominent garden. Our Lord would have us serve just as well among the poor or among the rich; we should serve as gladly and as efficiently with the few as before the many. We should not care at all for those who observe us but only for the pleasure of Him Who sent us.

Just as the dandelion knows no season, so the servant of God should be, "in season out of season," when the world thinks that the Gospel is out of season, the Christian must know that it is in season. When the world thinks the Scriptures are out of place, the believer must know that the Word of God is always in place. There is no time that is out of season for the precious Word of the living God.

The diligence of the dandelion should be a challenge to our hearts. It is often growing and doing the will of its Maker while God's children are growing and living in disobedience. The dandelion is busy producing the flower for beauty and the seed for service while some of God's saints are busy cultivating ugly habits and destroying the seed that others have sown. The dandelion does what its Master equipped it to do, while sometimes the Christian is busy doing the things he should not do.

Dandelions always tell the same golden story. Who ever heard of a blue dandelion. They bring that golden yellow up out of a black soil. They smile at you in the cold, gray morning and bid you a golden greeting at night, when you come home weary with the work of the day. How like this we should be. Why should not the child of God show the golden glory of the Son of Righteousness in his face constantly? We too should have a happy greeting for those whom we meet along life's road. They should see us and take courage. They should see our example of diligence and persistence and take new heart. Our presence and our actions should instill new hope in the hearts of those who observe us.

As the dandelion seeks out every nook and corner in which to grow and smile and prepare its seed, so should we constantly seek opportunities to bring the sunshine of God's Love and the Seed of His Word into every nook and corner in the community where we live. What a fertile spot every place presents. Sometimes we sow the seed in the jail and sometimes in the orphan's home. It may be in the home of a neighbor where we shall show the flowers and fruits of God's grace, or it may be in the office and the shop. Everywhere the soil is ready, waiting for the seed. We are to be sowing early and late permitting the Holy Spirit to blow our message into every heart where He would have it go.

The beautiful golden yellow of the dandelion comes from the dark damp soil. How can black dirt produce a beautiful blossom? Ah, that is one of God's mysteries. Only God can do it. Only God would do it. It is a miracle which we often see in nature and also in society. Out of the dark ground comes the white hyacinth, the yellow rose, the blue cornflower, the purple violet, the tinted lily and the golden dandelion. Out of the mire and the filth of sin God has brought many a man and many a woman who adorn His doctrines and who exemplify the glories of His great Grace. Men who are a curse in the home have been changed into a benediction. Men whose mouths were foul and filthy with liquor, tobacco, and oaths, have been made into vessels of glory whose mouths were filled with His praises. Men who were a curse to society have been transformed into the greatest of blessings. Yes, our God can bring beautiful things out of horrible things if only we will trust our souls and our lives to Him.

Dandelions care for neither the smiles nor the frowns of men. Their business is to bloom and they do it. Their work is to seed the soil and they accomplish it remarkably well. Their business is to work early and late, and they never take a vacation. The Lord help us to be like the dandelion.

Phone Calls From Every Where...

With Isaiah in the military, Alan in the States, Abby in Chile, it's been 'crazy'. When the phone rings and nothing shows on the panel, that's Isaiah. Then my cell phone "Line" rings, that can be Abby or Alan. It's been nice as Alan tries to call each day to pray and share. He is eating and enjoying the time with his mom. He arrived and Alden and his family took off for a much needed Family Time in Arrowhead! Abby's eyes are healed and her back is getting better.

I have been giving things away and clearing things out. That was my day! The outside shoes area is finished. We do have a lot of shoes. I buy running shoes. Alan has tennis shoes. Isaiah loves Vans and Converse and he has tennis and basketball shoes. Abby is not here, but most of her shoes are!

I did go for a run and it was hot... I survived... it was not fast... just my usual 10k plus a few abs reps on three different machines at World Gym.

This evening was the MOE Year-End Banquet. I felt obligated to 'show up'... as I was invited. That's very nice of them. Afterwards, I stopped at Angel's place to drop off the large duffle bag and pick up things that she can't be bringing with her. She bought lots of fruit and snacks, which they were not able to finish. I love getting leftovers from people.

For your enjoyment: A short story by Walter Wilson!

Ants Go To Picnics

by Walter L. Wilson (1881-1969)

Walter L. WilsonThe great King Solomon on two occasions has called our attention to the little ant that we might profit thereby. In Proverbs 6:6 he wrote, "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise." Later on in the same book he wrote, "The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Proverbs 30:25. Since this wise and good King has recommended that we go to school to the ant, let us do so for a while. I am sure it will be delightfully interesting.

Someone has said that, "The ant is the busiest creature in the world but she has time to attend every picnic." Have you not noticed how quickly the ants find the food? Not only do they hunt up every picnic but they seem to seek out every pantry. They like jelly and jam. They rejoice in sugar and syrup and are not easily kept from entering. They are most assiduous and arduous in all their labors. They are diligent and vigilant in seeking out their food. They seem to be tireless in their labors. They "work while 'tis day," and stay home at nights as all good children should do.

I took Solomon's admonition quite seriously one day and so journeyed out to the Park with the family for a picnic, taking along a magnifying glass. After sufficient search, I found a tiny path through the grass which had been made by the ants. Lying down beside the path I waited for Mrs. Ant to appear. You see, all the ants that go to picnics are females. It is a case of "let the women do the work." The male ants remain down in the ground, taking care of the babies and doing the housework. Of course, Solomon never had to do it, he had plenty of helpers. I did not have long to wait until a lovely little lady ant came ambling along the path, seeking her supper. I quickly placed a chunk of bread down at the edge of the path and my little visitor soon found it. Taking as much as she could carry, she started back along the path going home with her precious burden. Another ant soon met her and I was delighted to observe what followed the meeting. The first ant laid down her piece of bread and with her front feet she gently touched the body of the second ant imparting to her in some way the good news about the location of her great "find." To my astonishment the second ant made no effort to seize the piece of bread which the first ant had deposited on the ground. As ant number two loaded up with bread and started back along the trail, I watched both of them. Each time the performance was repeated and each time the bit of bread on the ground was unmolested. What a lesson this is to our hearts. Chickens, or dogs, or pigs, will quickly grasp any bit of food laid down by another, and will run off with it. The ant knows no such impudence. She respects the rights of others. She admits the propriety of ownership. They disclaim all selfishness. As the ants journeyed home bearing the precious burden, they told so many about their "find" that soon a stream of ants was on the journey, and before long all the piece of bread was stored safely away in their ground homes for the winter. So God's good Gospel has spread. One comes to the Bread of Life and feeds to the full then goes on his journey to tell others whom he meets of the wonderful treasure he has found. By tongue and by pen the news is spread that Christ Jesus is the Bread of Life. So thousands upon thousands have come to Him and others are coming only to find that the half was never told.

Each ant has four pairs of ears (some boys think their aunt has sixteen pairs of ears). There is one pair of ears in the two front legs; another pair in the abdomen; another pair in the thorax and another pair in the head. God has graciously gifted this little insect with unusual hearing ability because it is so small that it cannot see much and therefore cannot avoid danger. God shows His care for ants as well as for elephants. He cares for you too, no matter how small or weak, or insignificant you may think you are. He cares for every moment of your life and He wants all of your devotion and trust.

The ants are very diligent and active in the summer time because they know that the winter is coming when there will be no picnics. They dare not venture out when snow and ice are on the ground. They know better than to leave their homes when the temperature is below freezing. They have learned from some source that frozen food cannot be carried nor broken loose from the ground. Where did the ants learn all of these needful things? Did some atheist or infidel somewhere, sometime, establish a school for teaching ants about the future? Will any of these learned gentlemen kindly step forward and tell us how the ant became so wise? Perhaps, when the ant and the elephant and the alligator and the dog all parted company from the original protoplasm, they divided up among themselves the different ways of living and were self-instructed. Who knows? Let us gather together some of the professors from some of our great universities and have them expound this mystery. "God hath made foolish the wisdom of this world." All the law makers, the joke makers, the sports writers, the money makers, together with all the teachers and professors, with all the politicians and unbelieving preachers in the country put together could neither give life to a dead ant nor teach a live ant how to live. We have a living God on the Throne who knows all about it. He CAN do it, and He DOES do it.

Moses was commended of God because he believed in future judgment and prepared for it. He knew that the avenging angel would pass through the land at midnight and would destroy all the first born who were not under the blood. He knew that even his own house would not be exempt. As great as he was, and as good as he was, he knew that his house must be protected by the blood. He obeyed God, he shed the blood of the lamb, he applied the blood over the door and his house was saved. Noah, too, was commended because he believed that there was coming judgment and wrath and prepared for it. He did as the ants do. He prepared for trouble ahead. He built an ark. He obeyed God's Word and entered in as he was instructed. He had learned the lesson which the ants teach. Life insurance prepares for future death. Storm cellars prepare for future cyclones. Coal is bought in the summer for the cold that is coming in the winter. Christ Jesus is a refuge for the coming storm of God's wrath. Let me urge each reader to be wise like the ant. Prepare now for the storm that is coming after awhile.

The Cat Is Away...

Alan has arrived in San Diego! I haven't talked to him to find out how the bus trip was!

After Mom took off, I started to post all the stuff that has been accumulating in my scooter space. Yes, the neighbors all know me. Christmas tree... containers... kitchenware... anyhow, they are all given away or at least reserved for pick up.

I also did some organizing here. Clearing out magazines and booklets. And Angel wants a suitcase, so I will clear one out for her! We have so many!

Isaiah called around lunch time, so I got to talk to him for a few minutes... very short!

It was quite warm, but I headed out at 1pm. YEAH!

After my run, I went to drop things off as she will give away to the international students at her church. On the way back, I bought bananas and thought... I wonder if I can get a 100NT$ haircut! It was quite packed, but I got a haircut and came home for a quick shower just before Mom was back. I didn't shave my head... I would like it even shorter... maybe next time before Alan gets back... ha, ha, ha... Annie and Eddie and Nic can all go for a haircut and I'll also book for them to have a massage!

Dinner was ready... And when Mom went to bed, I continued with the organizing... I'm far from finished!

Another Day at the MOE!

I have to rush on Wednesday mornings while Alan is away.

I was out the door at 8:35 and got there by 9:15! I had one article to proofread and that was fast. I then researched about the High Speed Rail Tickets and ran over to the counter at the train station during my lunch hour! I bought the tickets and then back at the office, I bought the three day pass for Eddie and Nic. I then reserved their hotel in Tainan! Wow...

The assistant and I also worked on some posters for the Chinese New Year Display! We try to highlight different holidays. She will put everything together for me to look at!

I had one gal who came to see me during the Office Hour. She bought treats from Japan for me! What a pleasant surprise. Aunt Stella is actually a Japanese company of cookies and sweets. I always thought it was an American company. I went and read about the company!

I left the office at 5:20 and headed to World Gym for a quick workout before getting home. The helper was there. and I had labeled everything. I showed her the bedtime routine and got Mom to bed. She will be coming next Wednesday and also on February 8th! YEAH!

I had tutoring at 8pm and that went a bit long.

What a day!

Oh... Alan has arrived safely to Los Angeles and will be taking the bus to San Diego tomorrow morning. And he called so that we can pray together!
