Productive Date!

Alan and I have our "date" every Friday. And each time, we truly feel as if there is some kind of time warp as the day just flies by. Today was the same.

Alan first worked on light fixtures. I had tried, but couldn't get them to work right. The fuse had to be changed, not just the lightbulbs. Who knew that these light fixtures had fuses!

Then Isaiah called and needed to transfer money and have things dropped off at his school. His coach wanted him to do a joint college application based on his test score and also a try out. We weren't going that route because the four universities in this group are all down south. They are all top schools but Isaiah would be living in Kaohsuing, which is a six hour drive from Taipei! But his coach wanted him to try so we complied. The try-out will be on March 18th. Trying out DOES NOT mean that he is on the tennis team and will be locked into staying in Taiwan. It just means that they are looking at his tennis skills in order to decide his acceptance. Each of the four schools has a lowest test score standard in order to apply. Out of the four schools, Isaiah qualifies for two. He also gets to choose majors that are NOT PE related. So, he chose foreign languages and broadcasting and international affairs. Each student applying in this program can choose up to eight! After the try-out, the results will be announced by March 29th. And Isaiah can still proceed with his other applications without any penalties. He selected universities in Taipei for the individual application. And we will hear back on March 17th from those options. With the individual application, you get 'called back' for interviews and school administered exams. To clarify, if the school has 80 openings for the freshmen class, they then call 160 students for the interview and test. After the call back interview, all the students are then ranked based on their national test scores (50%) and their interview and school administered test (50%). The top 80 are IN and the rest are on the waiting list. So, last year, Soochow English Department took almost their entire waiting list candidates as those who were admitted decided to go to another school. Complicated, right? We just take this one step at a time...

Back to our date... we then went to the local shopping center for lunch and then went shopping for a new water filter system and things... food for church love feast, battery for our scale, etc.

We got back at 6pm and had time to gather things before heading out again to the kids' school for Back to School Night. That went really well and we were finished with all the meetings by 8:45.

The rest of the evening was spent with our family devotion and we even had time to watch TV.

It was definitely a productive date!
