My Hand! My Day!

I woke up and found that I had no strength in my right thumb or index finger! In fact, it hurts to use my hand! Oh no...

Then my tenant in my Danhsui house sent me a message... Now I already charge her very little rent (about 130US$ a month) and in the past two months, I've paid for the AC units to be replaced, the refrigerator to be fixed and now, the bathroom sink! Someone told me that I should have told her that all repairs under 5000NT$ should be paid by her since the rent is so low. But I just can't do that! Anyhow, with no right hand... riding the scooter was very difficult...

Alan had the day off so he drove me there...  The guy we found was fantastic. he arrived on time, had the problem fixed in 30 minutes and charged 500NT$! We drove back and I was able to rest before going to tutor.

This evening I had double booked...only because James didn't have time tomorrow night... So he wanted to treat us to dinner tonight. I had a church Finance Meeting... So, I went to the finance meeting and left early. It was nice to see James... He will be leaving on Saturday.

My hand did not get any better. Even now, as I type this, I am icing my hand and arm. It is very painful to move even just to type! I'm praying... And if you are reading this, please say a prayer for healing!

No Energy! Totally Lethargic!

Yes, the heat has drained all my energy... In fact, today I tried to hang the wet clothes inside the house and run all the fans thinking this might cool down the living room. It did not work! The clothes dried very quickly, but the room was not one bit cooler!

The weatherman has been saying for the past two weeks that cooler weather is just around the corner!

I can hardly wait... BUT I will believe it when I start to feel it...

I have no energy to even blog...

Teacher's Day Gifts

Thursday is Teacher's Day here in Taiwan but the Taiwan government no longer set this day as a national holiday. But this year, Soochow is giving their teachers and students the day off... and Alan got a Teacher's Day gift! Six hundred NT$ of coupons from Family Mart, a convenience store that's on campus.

When I got home from teaching at NSB, there was a registered letter... and in it was 1200NT$ of coupons for a different convenience store. The students from this year's NSB class voted for me! Only 10 of their teachers get the Teacher's Day gift. I didn't think I would get voted to receive this gift as I have not met up with them but once a month since April... What a miracle... I haven't even finished spending the money from last year...

In other news... today's heat broke more records... and yes, I pushed through the day without turning on the AC!

Trying to Take Time to Relax!

I try to set aside two blocks of time each week to relax. What that means is I get to sit and read!

So, this morning (since I had such a busy weekend), I sat in our living room and read. Then I went and listened to a sermon as I try to do a lot of research for my talk.

This afternoon before going to tutor, I finished the sermon for this Sunday! I will have to make the ppt and work on another chapter... I hope to get Luke 13 done.

The weather continues to be extremely hot!

So, after a fabulous dinner with my brother, James, I rode the bike home! I needed the exercise!

The Weather Might Cool Down!

Today was a double service day...

And it was so hot... but the news said that perhaps by Wednesday of this week... there might be one day of cooler weather...

Ok... back to my day...

I left early as I wanted to stop by the fruit stand to buy dragon fruits for the Chinese congregation. Last month I had said that whenever I pass this particular shop on the way to speak at their church, God always blesses me with dragon fruits at the lowest price. So, as part of my sermon, I wanted to buy some for their love feast. When I arrived at the service, the greeter took the dragon fruits in the back in order to cut them up for their luncheon.

During the announcement time at the end of the service, the pastor stood up... and said, "God must love us very much, because today, without talking to each other, three people bought and brought dragon fruits. A lady in the congregation dropped off dragon fruit. The pastor's spouse bought dragon fruit last night and now, our speaker just dropped off 14 BIG dragon fruits for our lunch! There was a unity of the Spirit moving!" What an amazing thing!

That was the morning service. This afternoon at HOP, there were more people than the usual. I thought printing up 30 of my handout packets would be enough, but they went and got 11 more printed out. Praise the Lord. That meant we had 41 ADULTS in the congregation! I am praying that Jesus would double the number of people in our congregation by January 28, 2018! When our pastor resigned, we dropped to 28-30 people... so, I'm praying for 60 ADULTS in our congregation. I'm praying that people will invite others to come...

I came home and put away everything and started doing housework as I had no time to do anything this day -- clothes to fold and put away, floor to mop and general tidying up!

It has been such a blessed day...

Inferno HOT!

Just when I thought summer was over... we have a day like today!

UNBEARABLE!

The heat was intense...

I tutored in the morning...

In the afternoon at around one, Alan was trying to take a nap... I was trying to rest... and we just could not.

I got up and did housework! Alan went to rest in Abby's room... it was the only room that had a little bit of a breeze.

I made a chicken cheese and bean dip for a party with my co-workers from Ming Chuan. Even though I don't teach there anymore, they invite me every year! It sure was good to see them and again, I was so glad that I retired!

In the evening, we went to Costco to pick up a few items... After getting back, Alan and Isaiah stayed home to watch a movie, while Abby and I went out for an evening walk. It was still tremendously hot.

Oh... big news... Isaiah got his braces off! Wow... finally... AND, I finished my talks for tomorrow... and the two ppt files...

Attempted A Run!

The heat is so intense... but I just wanted to see if I could go for a run...

I headed out at 8:30 after checking the weather... 36Celcius... NOT GOOD!

It was hot out there... I was able to run 9kms... and walk 1km. That was at the turn-around point when I started heading back home... I had to wipe off the sweat... But it did feel so good...

I was more energetic and got a lot done...

Tonight we had a feast with Uncle James at a buffet restaurant... We all wished we had three stomachs!
