Fantastic Rock Face Climb and Fantastic Day

Annie and KR were ready to just have an easy day and do nothing.

I couldn't let them just stay at home.

So, instead of going to Wulai or to the local "YMCA" (for a swim), I decided to take them for a hike. I've heard of the many trails right behind our house but I've never gone to hike any of them. Why? Well, Alan doesn't enjoy hiking and the kids don't want to go with me. They know that I will get lost. And I don't want to go alone because I know I will get lost!

So, today, I dragged them off to hike the famous Golden Face Rock Climb.

It was absolutely fantastic. The distance wasn't that long, but the challenge was amazing. At first, it started with simple stairs. But soon, you saw a face of sheer rock with a rope. You had to pull yourself up this rock face and get to the top. It was raining and windy. I totally loved it. We could have gone further, but we were too soak. So, we didn't get to explore more of the trails. I will definitely go and do the climb again and again and again.

We went to church and the speaker was Topi Daddy. I asked Annie and KR to receive prayer from Topi and his wife.

We had love feast at church but since it was a western meal, Annie didn't want to eat too much as I told her that we'd go to buy some of the famous fried food for her to try.

Tomorrow they will be heading back to the States.  I wish they'd stay longer as there are still so much to do!

A Long Day

Yes, we made it down to our old neighborhood. Annie took pictures in front of her old junior high school.  But I couldn't remember where her old elementary school was. Too bad. I'll have to google it and see.

We then went and had a delicious brunch before heading out for a long bike ride to Tamsui. The weather was great. And Tamsui was so crowded! By the time we got home, we barely had time to take a shower before we were out the door again. This time to meet up with friends for dinner at the Grand Hotel.

We enjoyed the meal so much. We also walked around the Grand Hotel before going to Hsinmenting. That place was not so crowded tonight.

We finally got home at around 11:10! Annie and KR headed off to bed almost immediately.

Tomorrow... hum??? What will we do?  I have no idea!

New Experience

As I had mentioned yesterday, we did go to the National Palace Museum.  I dropped them off and then headed back home to get things tidied up and help Annie pack up what we have accumulated already.

The kids and I went to pick them up at around 12:15 and we headed out to lunch at another local mall. I had bought restaurant coupons and we had a feast.

Then it was time to shop.

Isaiah needed another sweatshirt.

Abby wanted a new swimming suit.

Annie and KR didn't need anything, but we had to find things for them to buy.

After a successful shopping trip, we came back home to drop the kids off. And then we were off to Beitou.  The public foot soaking place and the public open-air hot springs -- the weather again was fabulous and the experience totally NEW. First, the crowd of people that were there... secondly, the therapeutic effects of the hot springs. They felt totally refreshed.

We bought food and ate at home.

We did not make it to our old neighborhood...

I think we will have to do that tomorrow. And I hope to take them for another bike ride. Beef noodles for lunch?  We won't be able to do everything on my original list, but we're getting pretty close to hitting almost everything. We won't be going to Kaohsiung. And we probably won't get to ride the Gondola near the Mucha Zoo.  But I still hope to take them to the place for surfers...

We will see... Tomorrow will be another day for more new experiences.

Fun Day

Today was a tremendously fun day!

Annie and KR went up Taipei 101. God orchestrated everything. We got there at 9:30 and there was only a 5 minute wait. As soon as they got into the elevator, the crowds came. I mean, REALLY! It became a mad house within 30 minutes.

When they came back down, we went to lunch at Amy and Darwin's. They are such great hosts. Plenty of food and great people. Darwin has a few collections which are so fascinating. We enjoyed 40+ year old Puah Tea. Wow...

Then we were off again to Chiang Kei Shek Memorial Hall.  Annie and KR were exhausted and we headed back on the MRT. They biked home and I called my kids to join me as we wanted to go and shop at Shinmenting.

It was crazy there. Extremely fun, but totally wild. They later it got, the more crowded it became. Street performers, street vendors... it seemed as if they were coming out from nowhere.

The kids and I had a grand time.

And yes... tomorrow??? I think I'm going to take them to the National Palace Museum and then off to Beitou and down to our old house in the city center. But it will be a relatively relaxing day as I plan to drive!

You can't tell by the pictures, but Annie and KR have been feeling quite sick. I have tried to drag them out every day to do something fun! Hiking, bike riding, shopping and eating, eating, eating...

What Have We Done Thus Far?

They are still feeling sick. So, we don't do much each day.

On Sunday, we went to church and then drove around. We went to see the Beitou Hot Springs. It was quite nice.

Today the Super Bowl was on in the States, so we stayed home all morning to watch the game.

Then in the afternoon, Annie, KR and I went for a hike to the butterfly park and then had a simple lunch at Food Republic, a nice food court right near our house.

This evening, we ventured out to Shihlin Night Market. Wow, was it ever packed!

Annie had a skewer of duck tongue. They were not feeling extremely well, so they did not have the appetite to try all that the place had to offer.  Too bad!

We were able to keep them awake and did not get home until 9:30!

Tomorrow, we hope to go to the National Palace Museum.

Oh, the weather today was fabulous!
