Presidential Inauguration & Other Random Things

Today was Taiwan's Presidential Inauguration. The stock market sat 'still' until after her speech as people were fearful that she was going to 'rock' the boat.  But in her speech she mentioned that she will keep the status quo between China and Taiwan, honoring the previous agreements. That helped the stock market to gain 35 points. But analysts are skeptical, waiting for her first major decision, stating that today's gain is only short term.

Alan and I headed out to the Danhsui house as the A/C units were having problem. The repairman came and in less than an hour, and for only 10US$, it was fixed.  While he was working on the unit, I helped to tidy up the house.

We went to have lunch there in Danhsui and on the way back, went to the new Costco in Beitou.  We decided to have dessert while we were there and this gentleman from the States invited himself to sit with us. We ended up talking for two hours. He told us his life story. Quite interesting. We invited him to come to church on Sunday.

Then it was driving through traffic to pick up Alan's watch that was being repaired.  40US$ and it looks like new.

I had found out that the Inauguration Dinner was going to be in Neihu, so we thought the traffic was going to be horrible. But it wasn't bad at all. There were 270 policemen all around. Tonight would be a great night for an evening run at the park. It sure would be very very safe!

One last thing, 5/20 in Chinese sounds like "I Love You". So, on the radio, it was talking about how this has now become like a Chinese Valentine's Day. I had no idea!!!

How Fast A Day Can Go By!

I didn't have to go and teach at NSB, so I thought I'd have 'more' time.

But the day went by so fast.

Mopped the floor. Did a load of laundry. Met up with the PTA chair to look over the restaurant for the end of the school year dinner. Worked on my talk for May 29th. Finished the ppt for the talk on May 22nd. Emailed off my talk notes for this Sunday. Went for a quick run. Tutored in the evening.

And now, it's already past 11pm.

I'm ready for bed!

Getting Things Done

The A/C units in the Danhsui house are not functioning properly. And with the summer months approaching and my trip to the US, I had to get that fixed.  I called several repairmen, but they were all busy installing new units and had no time for a 'repair' job. But one repairman told me to call the old units' company and get one of their service personnel to come. Great idea!

I found the company phone number, called and put in a service order. The repairman called and we set Friday morning at 11:30. YEAH.

Then in the afternoon, the tissue that I ordered arrived. Yes, I ordered tissue to bring back to the States as it's much cheaper here!!!!!!!! Ha, ha, ha... I ordered A LOT!

I was able to finish my Sunday message and emailed that off.

Then I made a quick trip to the grocery store and cooked and cleaned.

The day was warm, so I ventured out for a run. It was a bit more than warm, unfortunately.

On the way back, I also discovered signs on the road. It seems that the Presidential Inauguration Dinner will be at the hotel right near our house. The signs said that the road will be 'blocked' from 5 to 10 pm on the 20th of May.

Needless to say, this day went by rather fast. I am thankful for a productive day of getting things done.

Last Class with The First NSB Group

Have you dazzled your teacher today?

I put this sign up on the white board every class time.

Today was our last class. And they each had to stand up in front and introduce themselves. After their introduction, they were to answer two questions from their classmates.

In 20 hours, this 'low' group of students has made incredible improvements.

When we first began, they couldn't even open their mouth to say hello. And now, they were introducing themselves in English.

The supervisor videotaped each person's self introduction. After class, I had a short conversation with her and she, too, saw the improvement! YEAH GOD.

I closed the class with prayer and baked a pan of fudge brownies for them. The 20 hours sure went by so quickly!

Encountering Jesus, Part I & II

If anyone of you is interested, here are the two parts of the talk I shared entitled, Encountering Jesus.  I'm not sure if I did this correctly.  It's quite long because at HOP the messages are translated from English to Chinese!

Pentecost Anointing

Today was the island wide joint prayer meeting as Pentecost is celebrated today.  It started at 3:30. We could not go as we had our afternoon service. I spoke on Encountering Jesus, Part II.

Alan and Isaiah were my intercessors and I truly felt the power of the Holy Spirit, moving and touching the hearts of His people. I don't know what point struck them, but I had prayed for Jesus to use the message. I believe He did.

I pray that God would use His people to change the world, like the early disciples and believers.

The Trail Race Tomorrow

I went by the elementary school today and they had these booths and signs all set up.  I looked and it was for tomorrow's trail race right in our neighborhood.

The runners will go to the Rock Face and up and down three 'hills' before coming back to the elementary school. I think they whole trail is only 21kilometers but it's a very difficult run. And if it's hot, those who can be back before 9 will be 'lucky'.

This run has been going on for at least three years now... and I've seen people staggering back around noon, looking completely spent.

I wander if I can go and hike the trail tomorrow just to see...
