First, I shared Randy Alcorn's six Treasure Principles --
- God owns everything, and I’m his money manager.
- My heart always goes where I put God’s money.
- Heaven—the new earth—is my home, not this present earth that is under the curse of sin.
- I should live not for the dot but for the line—not for my own short life but for eternity.
- Giving is the only antidote to materialism.
- God prospers me not to raise my standard of living, but to raise my standard of giving.
In light of Exo. 2:1-6, my three practical Biblical principles were -- (I also gave some NT verses.)
1. Have an eternal/heavenly perspective. (Col. 3:1-3)
2. Pray and listen to our Master's leading. (John 10:27-28)
3. Have a sense of responsibility and accountability. (Phil. 2:1-5)
Finally, I closed with these three questions --
Do you have a
heavenly/eternal perspective?
Do you pray and
listen in making daily decisions?
Do you have others
to hold you accountable in being responsible in your role as a steward?
And the example of George Muller --
“I have a small faith
in a great God.”
Near the end of his
life, he affirmed that he had read the Bible through approximately two hundred
times, one hundred of which were on his knees.
Before he started on
any work or correspondence, he spent 1-4 hours in private prayer each morning.
At his death – “Dear
old Mr. Muller. He just slipped quietly off Home as the gentle Master opened
the door and whispered, ‘Come.’”
I believe that if we take this message to heart, we will be a great influence to the world, being empowered to serve God, benefit others and bring glory to our Master and Lord.
One more interesting quote, not from George Muller, but Charles Spurgeon!
Seek Him First!
