Today for our "date" we went to the Tax Office to file our tax!
Alan had put together all the materials.
We delayed lunch in order to get there before noon. And they do not take a break for lunch.
We took a number and waited and there were 12 people in front of us. We waited for only about 20 minutes and our number was called.
The lady was very patient and thorough.
Last year we had to pay about 350US$. We did not know how much we'd be paying this year. I brought about 175US$.
What I do want to say is that the Taiwan Government takes out very little tax from our salary as compared to other countries. For deductions, they allow up to 20% for donations. They also take into consideration rent or interest you pay on your mortgage. They allow a certain percentage of deduction from health and labor insurance.
The bottom line is -- when everything was calculated, we only had to pay about 70US$!!!!
