The "Yazidi" of Iraq
The Yazidi people follow an old religion which has remnants of Zoroastrian
(worship of sun and fire); Hinduism (reincarnation and caste system); Judaism
(all the prophets and angels); Christianity (easter eggs, infant baptism); and
Islam (saint veneration, fasting & ritual prayer). They are in year 6760+ of
their religion. They have been persecuted and misunderstood by Muslims
controlling them for centuries. They are scorned and despised as "devil
worshippers." They believe Christ is the light of God, but are more focused on
angels and pleasing them. They are a closed community which accepts no converts
and will kill a daughter who marries outside the religion.
Ministry ObstaclesThe Yazidis are very insular and defensive of their religion. They have lived defensively for many generations.
Outreach Ideas
They need to hear the Gospel and see the lives of true believers. Their villages need development and their schools need English teachers.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are probably no followers of Jesus as Savior and Lord among the Yazidis at this time, although there may be a very few. Please pray for those who will soon come to faith in Christ, that they will be zealous to honor him and be faithful witnesses to family and friends.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Yazidi to be completely set free from a belief system that keeps them from the light of the Gospel of Christ.
Scripture Focus
"And you shall be my witnesses, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Acts 1:8
