I Pulled An Alan!

Whenever Alan is sick, he goes for a long workout. He thinks sweating will cure anything.

So, I went and pulled an Alan!

I went to the local workout place (I had a coupon and only had to pay 10NT$!) and did a 100 minute walk/run on the treadmill! Wow... I was drenched with sweat... it felt really good. And I drank tons of water. I can't say I'm completely healed but it did help!

I'm a bit sore now... and my voice has not fully recovered. But the cough is better!

I hope to get a good night's rest and wake up feeling much much better!

Getting Better

I have NOT fully recovered, but I am feeling better. This throat thing really hit hard! I'm now losing my voice!

I went off this morning to mail off Isaiah's packet and looked at Carrefour, taking pictures of things that are great to buy to bring to the States.

I worked on writing test and I decided to resign from this job as it takes way too much time. I am very sure that they will be able to find someone else as I had recommended different people to them.

I made quiche for my small group this evening and then I made veggie chicken for Alan's dinner! I was going to bake a loaf of fresh bread, but I ran out to 'steam'. Instead, I took a very long nap!

Sleeping is very healing!

I hope that by tomorrow I will be completely healed! And I am pretty sure that will be true if I again have more time to rest! (Resting my throat from talking and giving myself time to NAP!)

Time to Rest!

I got to sleep in until 8am today!

That was so helpful.

The Lord sustained me through the day as I had to make soup and dessert for 70 people. I had people who came early to help me out!

And the Lord gave me voice to talk to people and to help translate!

I am looking forward to being completely healed! My diaphragm is beginning to hurt from the coughing! It feels like I've been doing sit-ups!

Fighting Off A Bad Cough and Cold

Well... the bug hit...

I was hoping to ward off the onset of a full blown cough and cold, but without enough time to sleep (that's my best way to fend off any kind of illness), it hit!

At first, it was just the sore throat. I took extra vitamin Cs and drank plenty of lukewarm water.

Then a cough started with a slight dizziness and general body soreness. I forsook all running or exercising!

By Thursday and Friday, I was feeling it in my chest... and Alan said I was coughing pretty much all night.

I'm so glad Mom Bea gave me three bottles of the "spray" as the coughing whacked my back out. The spray has been so helpful!  I spray it on after a nice long hot shower.

Today, I gave myself a two hour nap. I was going to cut a dear friend's hair, but when I lined her, she said that she didn't want to catch whatever it is I had... so we postponed the haircutting until next Saturday.

Hopefully, within a few days with plenty of rest, this bug will be gone!

If you read this, please remember to pray for me! Everyone else is healthy! Thank you Jesus!

Productive Date!

Alan and I have our "date" every Friday. And each time, we truly feel as if there is some kind of time warp as the day just flies by. Today was the same.

Alan first worked on light fixtures. I had tried, but couldn't get them to work right. The fuse had to be changed, not just the lightbulbs. Who knew that these light fixtures had fuses!

Then Isaiah called and needed to transfer money and have things dropped off at his school. His coach wanted him to do a joint college application based on his test score and also a try out. We weren't going that route because the four universities in this group are all down south. They are all top schools but Isaiah would be living in Kaohsuing, which is a six hour drive from Taipei! But his coach wanted him to try so we complied. The try-out will be on March 18th. Trying out DOES NOT mean that he is on the tennis team and will be locked into staying in Taiwan. It just means that they are looking at his tennis skills in order to decide his acceptance. Each of the four schools has a lowest test score standard in order to apply. Out of the four schools, Isaiah qualifies for two. He also gets to choose majors that are NOT PE related. So, he chose foreign languages and broadcasting and international affairs. Each student applying in this program can choose up to eight! After the try-out, the results will be announced by March 29th. And Isaiah can still proceed with his other applications without any penalties. He selected universities in Taipei for the individual application. And we will hear back on March 17th from those options. With the individual application, you get 'called back' for interviews and school administered exams. To clarify, if the school has 80 openings for the freshmen class, they then call 160 students for the interview and test. After the call back interview, all the students are then ranked based on their national test scores (50%) and their interview and school administered test (50%). The top 80 are IN and the rest are on the waiting list. So, last year, Soochow English Department took almost their entire waiting list candidates as those who were admitted decided to go to another school. Complicated, right? We just take this one step at a time...

Back to our date... we then went to the local shopping center for lunch and then went shopping for a new water filter system and things... food for church love feast, battery for our scale, etc.

We got back at 6pm and had time to gather things before heading out again to the kids' school for Back to School Night. That went really well and we were finished with all the meetings by 8:45.

The rest of the evening was spent with our family devotion and we even had time to watch TV.

It was definitely a productive date!

I'm Back!

Yes, we got back late Monday night... but we were out having fun all day Tuesday!

On Wednesday, I spent the morning catching up, had a 4 hour lunch/counseling session with a friend and then went off to tutor!

In the evening, we had our family prayer time. I also walked with Abby, checked my emails, and it was already 11:45! Since I was coming down with a sore throat, I decided to head off to bed.

So, this is the first chance I have had to blog -- from my computer here at home!

To back up a bit... Isaiah did not have his tennis tournament as the weather was too wet in Miaoli. So, we got to have fun all day Sunday and Monday. We went to a newly opened 'outlet' mall near Taichung. We went to different night markets and then found a more upscale restaurant with an all you can eat salad bar and had dinner there.  We didn't get back on Monday night until around 11pm.  And on Tuesday, the kids slept in. Alan went to play tennis. And I did a bit of housework. We were to meet my cousin's husband, who came to Taiwan on a business trip. We wanted to take him out for lunch and a drive around Taipei.

By the time we came back, it was time to get ready for school the next day and have our family prayer time! So, you see why I have not had the time to blog!

The weather here is set to drop... I love these winter days!
