Since I've been quite busy, I haven't been baking on my bread machine until about a week ago. So, in this one short week, I've baked four loaves of bread. Sour cream bread, sourdough bread, raisin and cranberry bread, pumpkin bread... It's been so fantastic! I bake to give the bread to others. I bake so that the kids can have different breads for breakfast. I really love using the bread machine. I love how I can be creative, adding different things to make different kinds of bread. I love the smell of my house when the bread is baking. I love the ease of making a fresh loaf of bread. And of course, I love eating the bread with lots of butter! In fact, I have a loaf in the bread machine right now. This one has half an avocado with about a half cup of salsa and about a cup of sour cream and half a cup of ricotta cheese! I wonder what it will taste like!

Sad News
Last night and at lunch time today I had a chance to talk to Abby. Both times she cried on the phone. She is having a hard time. Only one and a half day more and she'll be home.
Then this morning, I got a message from a dear sister. She was 8 weeks along in her pregnancy and started bleeding. She went to the hospital. By 2p.m. the doctor said that she was most likely having a miscarriage.
I had to go for a run. I just needed to be alone with God and to spend time in solitude and prayer.
I know God is faithful. I know He is --
All loving
All knowing
All faithful
All powerful
All able
All goodness
All SOVEREIGN!
I clung to those truths and proclaimed over today's sad news.

Update: This dear sister did have a miscarriage!

Miss Talking to Abby
Abby has been serving at the Children's Camp this week. She called twice when I wasn't home. When I tried calling her back on her cell phone, she didn't pick up. It's been two days since I've had a chance to talk to her. And I sure do miss her. I am praying for her as I know it is exhausting. She is up at 6am and in bed by 1am. At lunch time when the kids take their nap, all the counselors are busy preparing for the afternoon activities, so they have no time to rest.

Things Happening In This Region
I don't read the news very often. So when I talked to my mom each day, she asks me about the news and I'd have no idea. My mom watches the 6 o'clock news in Chinese Monday to Friday. Each day we'd talk. At times she'd ask me about what she saw.
For example, the stock market in China 'crashed'. Two different individuals wielded kitchen knives and slashed random people at two different MRT stations here in Taipei. (Now all MRT stations have tighter security.) A strong quake also rocked Indonesia and South Korea announces that the MERS threat is over!
My mom also almost always ask about the weather. Here in Taipei -- it's hot, hot, hot. But at times we get some heavy down pours in the afternoon and she'll see that on the news and ask about where I live. We haven't experienced the flooding like other areas in Taipei. Like today, I went out at around 2:30 and saw the clouds forming and heard the thunders roaring. When I came out after my visit with a friend, the ground wasn't even wet but the seat on my scooter had some droplets. I was hoping for more as it really helps to cool down the temperature and makes it much more comfortable in the evening.
So, if it wasn't for my mom, I'd really be clueless about things happening in this region.
I better get on and check for some more details in case she asks me tomorrow.

A Very Productive Day
From early morning to late at night... today was a very productive day.
I worked on several projects -- writing another set of test, making new chair covers, cleaning the house, organizing our shoe rack, editing Isaiah's translation and making dip for our Bible study group...
By 11:30pm, I was really ready to rest!
Oh... but I must include this --
At 2p.m. in the afternoon, I logged on to Nanhu's web site and found out that Abby did make the English Elite Class. She decided to go for it and to give up the Math Elite Class. Alan and I think it's a wise decision as she didn't want to spend her time writing computer software, which would have been part of the work that she'd be doing for the Math class. At least in the English Elite Class, Alan and I can help her with her homework!!!

Just Isaiah and I
Sure enough, the weekend went by way too fast.
Abby has gone off to her week long children's camp, so it's going to be just Isaiah and I at home!
I cut Isaiah's hair and we watched two episodes of one of our favorite TV shows, Castle.
I mended a few items on the borrowed sewing machine and will start making chair covers this week.
Tomorrow, I will have to start writing the test for ORTV and proofread/edit Isaiah's translation.
I haven't gone running in ages as it has been way too hot unless I go in the evening. So, this week, I hope to go for at least two longer runs. I don't think that's going to happen as I can't seem to drag myself out when it's so hot and I don't have time in the evenings when the kids are home.
Tonight we had pizza for the Love Feast at church. We brought one entire pizza home, so I think we'll be eating that for the next four days. It's not my favorite kind of food... Maybe I'll go get some more fruit and have that for dinner! After his long day of practice, Isaiah is usually hungry for a nice big salad and at least two large glasses of fruit smoothie. I realize that without Alan home, I don't need to cook much. And the food stays in the fridge a lot longer.

No Rain, No Run
Saturdays usually fly by way too fast and today was no different.
The kids had their own morning activities and I tutored a dear lady from 10-12. She brought over her sewing machine plus yards of fabric for me. I needed to borrow a sewing machine to complete a few projects. And the fabric was a gift from her to me!!!!!!! And believe it or not, the fabric was a beautiful green color.
We finished at around 12:20 and I was out the door on my way to pick up Abby so that she can come home to change clothes. She had to leave at 1:15 to help out at a wedding in the church where she has her youth group.
I started with cooking and cleaning, waiting for the rain to come so that I can go out for a quick run. The rain never came... I never went out for a run.
By 5p.m. I was out the door again, picking up both Isaiah and Abby so that we can go shopping for shoes near the Shihlin Night Market. After two hours, we decided to head home. There were several pairs for Isaiah, but the prices were way too high. We decided to wait as there are still more possible places.
We headed home for a fruity dinner. I cut up pineapples, mangoes, dragon fruits, bananas and had two platters of fruit for the three of us! That's what we all wanted on a hot summer evening.
After dinner, Abby started packing for another week long camp where she will be serving as a camp counselor. Isaiah finished translating for the 2015 SooChow University 24h Ultra Marathon. I will have to edit and email it to Coach Liu by Monday.
We're all going to head off to bed early.
Not only do Saturdays fly by, Sundays go by just as fast!

Ant Man
The kids and I went to the movies tonight.
I haven't watched all the Avengers or Marvel Comics or DC Comics Movies. But I must say, of the ones I've seen, they are all extremely entertaining. And this was no different.
It was exciting and suspenseful. The characters and dialogues are well done. I got drawn into the plot and of course, it ended with a hook to the next one.
After the movie, we went to Carrefour and scoured the 'reject' veggies section and got four HUGE perfect-for-guacamole avocados. The price -- less than 3US$!

At The Pool
Abby wants to go swimming at least 5 times a week. She likes the outdoor pool at DaHu Park. For students, it's about 2.50US$ and 3US$ for me. The pool is 50 meters. And like I've mentioned before, Abby is a fish. At least she swims like one.
When we got to the pool, no one was in the water. I was puzzled. Well, they asked everyone to get out because of the thunder and lightning. We waited for about 10 minutes and finally went in to the indoor pool. That pool is only 25 meters and there are two jacuzzis, two saunas, a huge pool with different jet sprays. And it was crowded. But Abby went to the swimming lanes and did about an hour of swimming.
When we left, we were trying to 'outrun' the coming rain. BUT nope... we got caught right in the down pour. We should have just kept our swimming suits on... I could hardly see anything while I was riding as the rain was pelting my face! What fun!!!!!
We got home and took another shower. Now, my living room is covered with things that need to be dried. We had to empty our bags. I had to thoroughly mop the floor. I was hoping to spend the time to work on sewing projects.
With the rain, the temperature cooled down. I'm so grateful. I couldn't sleep last night because of the heat!
It sure will be nice tonight...

Chatting With Alan
This morning as the kids and I were on our way out, Alan used "Line" to call us. It was a very short conversation, but we got to say hello to him and his mom. We wished Grandma Bea a HAPPY BIRTHDAY and saw Alan's face... They were at my sister Annie's house and will be heading up to see Tough Grandpa's sister, who lives in Hacienda Heights.
I started counting -- there are still 50 more days until I see Alan! That's still SEVEN more weeks!
Seek Him First!
I just had to add this picture. Mom Bea posted this on her blog of my sweet husband painting her kitchen wall wearing her apron! This is too funny!!!!! I don't know if I miss him that much, seeing him wearing this apron without a shirt on!!!!!
