Interesting Experience!

For our date, Alan and I decided to go 'house hunting'. Not that we're about to move, but since I'm getting a small sum of money each month from my 'retirement' pension, we thought it would be good to find another property to 'invest' in.

We went to several places and one was in the old parts of Taipei! What we saw was like the slums in Hong Kong... We were so shocked. We never knew a place like this existed in Taipei. It's a place of ministry. There were many old people and small home-style temples everywhere... I would never say Taipei is unsafe, but being in that area, I wondered... This area is well-known, in the old days, as where the gangs hung out or where you can get drugs or where other illegal activities took place!

We also went to three new places... but they were way too expensive.

So, we're going to keep looking...

I actually enjoy this process... but not Alan. And yet, he has been the one who has found the houses we have here in Neihu...

Section Tests Finished!

I'm glad to announce that the first section tests are finished!

Abby went out to see a movie with her classmates...

Isaiah was able to just hang out at home. I printed up a stack of Soochow University English Practice Exams for him... but he said he just wanted to relax!

So, my day was filled... as always... I went to the library and got more Time magazines for Isaiah to read. And yes, I got all the past entrance exams printed out.  I realized that I have not gone for a run in a very long time... I've been that busy!  Maybe next week...

I got Abby registered for her TOEIC test on Sunday, 5/21. That took a long time as they needed a recent photo! So, I had to figure out how to crop and upload a photo!

This weekend the couples' group will be at our house on Saturday and then I'll be speaking on Sunday morning at the New Beitou Baptist Church. Alan has a tennis tournament all day Sunday... and next week, Abby goes off for her graduation trip!

I can't believe it's already the end of March!

IT IS SENT!

Alan worked today to get all the files DOWNSIZED and then CONVERTED into a PDF file. Great dad!

Isaiah came home at 5:30 and together, they uploaded everything.

When I got home, I just had a look and Isaiah pushed SENT!

Once it is sent, you can't add or change anything.  Hopefully, he did it correctly. And we are set.

Interview/test on April 8th and 9th.

Yes, he finished the 'essay'. I can't say the quality of the paper, but it's finished.

As for the emergencies mentioned yesterday... the friend had her entire stomach removed. They took a piece of her liver to biopsy.  Prayerfully, the cancer has not spread. Stephanie's daughter is out of the coma but she is still in the ICU for two more days. Stephanie will be flying to Seattle to see Eleane. She will arrive on 3/23. No news from Annie... so I hope Kurtis and KR are feeling better.

So Many Emergencies!

We are still working on getting things done for the application process. Alan scanned all the certificates and now, we found out that the size of the document is restricted.

I picked up my scooter and went to pay the fee for the college applications. Then it was off to run errands!

I was hoping to go and visit someone's sister who found out she had stomach cancer and will have to remove her entire stomach. But I got extremely lost... So, I'll have to go at another time.

That was one of the emergencies.

The other was Stephanie's daughter. She caught a virus and started vomiting about two days ago. Her immune system must have weakened as the virus then attacked her pancreas. This in term affected her glucose level, which put her in a coma. She was admitted into the ICU.

My sister sent a message that her son and husband are both sick. They've been vomiting, too!

There is a great need to be on my knees...

Writing A Term Paper!

This journey of putting together a college packet has been a good one for Isaiah. Alan and I have had to help him quite a bit along this journey. What we have come to realize is this: for the past three years, Isaiah has written ZERO term paper! I know... I can't believe it. But it's true!

For the application to Soochow University's Philosophy Department, each student is required to submit a 3000 word/five page research paper on the broad topic of Philosophy. Each student can decide what to focus on. We went and got books. Abby loaned him a book on writing research paper. On Sunday night, Isaiah said, "I can't write this paper!" And we realized... it's not that he can't, but he doesn't know how!

It has been a scramble. But he has started... We have put down on paper almost 2000 words and we're on page 4! There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I say this has been good because when he goes to college in September, he will be writing lots of papers. Oh... for the Philosophy paper, he decided to focus on Bertrand Russell. (Don't ask me why?!?!?!) I would have chosen Henri Nouwen or Francis Schaeffer or Ravi Zachrias or any of the Christian philosophers.

The deadline to send everything in is 10pm on Thursday, March 23rd. But... we have already been warned: DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! The computer system might be so overloaded that we might miss the deadline. (Procrastination seems to be a common illness among students!) So... we hope to send things in by Wednesday night. Last night we went on after 10pm and they really DO shut the system down after 10. Wow... I was really surprised! They were so prompt!

In addition to this, he has his section tests at school this week. Then on Sunday, March 26th, he signed up to take the TOEIC test!

Our Annual Family Portraits!

We went and picked our pictures today.

They all turned out so beautifully.

Since this is our 30th anniversary, we decided to pick FIVE.

After choosing them, I used my cell phone and took a picture of a couple.
